  1. My misses says "you need the right tool for the job and your gigging every week so you need it" same with amps. Try the vanity angle-you wouldn,t want me turning up and not looking the bit and sounding crap would you now when all your friends turn up for a gig ,you wouldn,t play in a Rush tribute band without a rickenbacker and Orange amps n cabs would you and the jazz word is banned thank you.
  2. +1 great choice, i ,ve had mine from new in 2003 ,changed the scratchplate to a black carbon fibre one oh and it,s teal green. A/B mine with a stingray classic through same amp n cab,no difference to my ears but the classic was very expensive for a coat of varnish and mutes. Well worth it same with USA Peaveys nuclear proof finish,no scratches even after all these years gigging even though I,ve worn through the finish on the neck in places-real relicing/roadworn.
  3. 35 years I couldn,t get on with jizz basses till I got a Peavey USA Foundation, now the world is good It,s a 84 by the way, those super ferrites kick ass oh yes indeedy +1 with the bdi21 pedal as well, wouldn,t leave home without one-excellent value especially s/h and doubles as a DI box as well.
  4. I pull the neck back a bit when tightening a truss rod ala 4001 rickenbaker just to take a bit of strain off the nut when tightening, makes it easier to turn in most cases. Twincams advice is spot on also have a look at joeysbassnotes site on set up.
  5. Hiho ,you can record direct from OTB head without a cab hooked up. I use an OTB500 and a sp212 cab, sounds great and loud as if you want. I would get the OTB 500/1000 and chuck a pedal in front of it and adjust the dry/wet signal blend on the pedal ,kick it in,kick it out-Orange footswitch for the ob1 heads are £27 or you can get a behringer bdi21 for buttons s/h and if you like the preamp route you could upgrade to better quality units but for live work the bdi21 does the trick. The ob1 on the clips sounds good but the knock down price on the OTB heads is very tempting.
  6. Hi,same kinda pick up on the CSB cardinal series, they are quiet hot in fact. Played a zzb back in the day and it was no slouch in the sound department,as usual with arias of the period they have great playing necks. Try raising the pick ups closer to the strings or have you tried that already?,not being cheeky just wondering. Pre amp pedal is a good idea if the core sound is there,I take it that they sound good just a bit quiet compared to other basses. To keep prices down get a behringer bdi21 pedal s/h to try out, cheap as chips and not a big loss if you don,t like it-a lot of bass players use them and like them. They also double up as a DI box so you can play live through PA and record without an amp/cab/combo-sans amp. Another route is to get a loud rig like Orange or summit of that ilk and a pre amp pedal/multi fx unit and DI into PA as well. I bought my bdi21 s/h for £6 and have been using it for close on 8-9 years solid and it still works perfect.
  7. hiho,Big +1 for Dunlop super bright steels, been using a set on my foundation for 5 months now ,although not as twangy as when they went on there still twangy.I gig twice a week and have a practice in between. I put a set on my rick and hey ho they rock. They feel great as well, lower tension and for stainless strings are smooth, they smooth out with use or abuse in my case.Although they are big twangy they have a solid beefy bottom end, love em and will put a set on my t-bird and look forward to some big grand piano twangery
  8. Really enjoyed Laura Marling. Bass was not very prominent even had bass boost on tele Musicians union-more bass or triangle players will walk out in sympathy
  9. Who was the girl with the dobro ?
  10. Hi,it says in the manual you can record direct from the DI without a cabinet connected I,ve had mine for almost 2 years now and used DI from head at numerous festivals and it works a treat and all I,ve heard from the soundmen is that it sounds great
  11. So it,s no good for metal in the footswitch socket then. done that change the leads, batteries and hey ho-standby on-bollocks
  12. An alternative is to get a USA Peavey fretless ,not easy to come across but they are great basses as well for chip money but keep it under your hat, don,t want the prices going up any more. Both have great build quality, sound great and play very well,Peavey maybe shades the musicman due to the micro tilt neck that works.
  13. The USA SUB series are top drawer basses, had mine since 2003,great bass
  14. To finish it off, buff up with a wet chamois
  15. Hiho, bit off thread but get the OBT as well or OBT head and sp212 cab and hey ho let,s go. Love maple necks on a P.
  16. Orange terror bass heads going for £350 quid brand new at one of the online music chains, forgot which one and was on a thread called orange heads up
  17. Try out the Orange cabs-sp212/obc212 they are good ,love mine plenty loud, great sound and fill the place up with sound
  18. Epiphone pro iv active or classic are good basses once set up. Active has a great slap sound and classic is classic. Like the schaller bridge on the pro though
  19. Early Peavey Foundation with super ferrite pick ups. Cheap as chips and made in USA. My one is 31 years old and gets gigged every week. These are seriously good basses
  20. Should have waited 2 years
  21. Are the cabs on offer as well ? Seriously good bargain, these amps are worth it. Been using mine for close on 2 years ,excellent amp and cab.
  22. Nothing wrong with either pick ups. I get loads of compliments on how my Foundation sounds.
  23. I,m not saying what make of bass in both price ranges cause I don,t want to inflate the price of these till I,ve got a few more.
  24. [attachment=186940:DSCN0504.JPG]Was that the one on gumtree ? That,s the best £100 quid you,ll spend. I,ve got a 84 foundation and it,s my go to bass ,just twiddle the knobs and you,ll find loadsa sounds all good. Well built, sound great, feel good in the hand,Jazz on steroids a lot of people say-I agree. Looks like super ferrite pick ups, later ones had VFL pick ups, ferrites are more aggressive which I like. One on right 84 foundation with super ferrites,Forum 95 on left with VFL pick up. Look after it and play it to bits
  25. hiho,it seems the early ones were hot on the DI.There is a fix from Orange for this. Later ones are no problem ,never had an issue from soundman with mine. Attenuator is an easy fix
