  1. hiho,to get a black one you have to return at least half of your original one to rickenbacker. I would recomend a hipshot bridge, east to fit ,makes adjustments easy and looks good as well. soundwise I think it is an improvement, makes palm muting comforable without those grub screws tearing your palms off.
  2. hiho, vaseline is go and good for other things,I,m puttin my coat on
  3. hiho have a word with Andy at Wizard,he,ll sort you out.
  4. Consistantly Repetitive Abysmal Performance, not my cup of tea
  5. [attachment=28047:black_ricky_002.jpg]hiho here is my 1999 4003 black is nice
  6. hiho, wizard thumper or the stealth one.
  7. hiho, you,ve got to stand tall to be a Ricky man,if you aint got the minerals then winge away and blame the tools.
  8. hiho,I have a VINTAGE V4 and they are good for the money, mind you it,s got a wizard thumper in it,schaller tuners and soon a gotoh 201 bridge. but if your thinking of a SUB then go for it.I happen to have one as well and they are fantastic value, only mod is a hipshot D-tuner.
  9. [attachment=27228:black_ricky_002.jpg]hiho,hope this helps with the jetglo
  10. hiho, check out Vintage, seriously good for the money especially second hand.
  11. hiho,I play a 99 4003 along with a musicman and a p-bass,weapon of choice is the Ricky.I set it up on delivery and haven,t touched the neck since. Not bad for 10 years.the neck is almost the same size from top to bottom which I like. Neck set up is different to other basses,4001,s adjust differently to 4003,s but they both get zero relief unlike others which is the trick to get them singing Pick ups are single coil which are very sensitive to your playing, you could call it expressive which means they don,t tollerate bad technique. I have replaced the bridge with a hipshot, heresay in some quarters but I think it is an improvement in all ways. Comfort wise once you adjust to the Ricky they are great, hipshot helps. Ampwise they respond to good amps and cabs, you would not put budget tyres on a ferrari would you. Russ Ryan who is Geddy Lees bass tech never adjusted the neck on the Ricky over the whole tour unlike the jazzes which were in regular adjustment.A fine testiment to the 4001 with the apparently weaker neck than the 4003. There is nothing like a Ricky when it,s singing.
  12. hiho, thumper all the way.A very good price as well and a very fast turn around.
  13. hiho, tell them to go forth and multiply and wear big y fronts. If your playing pubs then get a SUB as they are bulletproof and sound and play a dream.Failing that get a Ricky and don,t listen to the hangers on. What do you call people who hang around with musicians ? The rest of the band.
  14. hiho, sounds like you have some relief on your neck.Ricky necks are set flat unlike any other neck.Check Joey,s bass notes on the net, very good advice on ricky basses. If you fancy fitting a hipshot bridge then I can recommend them. Hope this helps
  15. hiho,I used to be a peg man but changed over to a roland.Tone to die for and excellent for practice and small/medium gigs but for the full monty I use a mb450 head with 2 2x10 cabs and prefer the sound and volume. My ricky just sings through the marshall.I had a not very good sound and changed the pre amp valve to a mullard ecc 83 and away we go. I think that any decent valve would have done the trick. Anyway you could do without an amp if your in the PA but that is another story.Geddy Lee doesn,t use one live and he doesn,t sound shabby. It is handy to blame the tools for not sounding good. keep on.
  16. vintage v4 all the way,s/h of course it does help keep the pennies safe.
  17. hiho, sub all the way, cheaper s/h and made in the factory.
  18. hiho,no3 get the string down to the bottom of the post.job done
  19. hiho, phone Andy at Wizard and he,ll have you fixed in no time.
  20. hiho, mouse mat, everybody has a few of these. I knew there had to be a use for the things
  21. hiho.I,ve recently fitted a thumper into a p-bass and it is superb.Wizard pick ups are fantastic. Give Andy a phone and he,ll sort you out-fast.
  22. hiho, this is a bit off the thread but I fitted a thumper to a vintage v4-p bass copy and it is the dogs.Lovely guy to deal with, good advice and very fast service. I have nothing but the highest regard for Wizard pick ups.
  23. hiho.I fitted a black scratch plate to my ricky and when I removed the neck pick up I noticed there was 2 rubber grommets between the the pup and the scratch plate inhibiting the height that it can be raised. The up shot as an experiment I removed them, after refitting everything I was able to raise the neck pup higher. Result-I am glad I did it.I hope this may help some ricky owners. If you don,t like the sound it is easy to revert back and doesn,t cost anything.
  24. hiho, ricky and or a vintage v4 with a wizard thumper or stealth 51 pick up , a marshall with a bass driver and your there. Easy as,all the best
  25. Hiho,If it,s any good I,ve got a db700 and it is brilliant.Wouldn,t mind a db900 though.
