  1. The hard hitter will be a pain, your ears will bleed in small pubs. the hang is half of it, you have to be relaxed in each others company. Audition the nervous younger dude. Maybe meet for a drink around the corner BEFORE the audition. See if he is better when relaxed. The older guy may indeed be rusty, but it doesn't take long to get back into it I'd audition him again too. You're the bassist, you need to be able to trust his playing and gel with him, your opinion carries more weight thatn the others imho ymmv
  2. I wanted songwriting credits on a song we recorded years ago because my bass riff was the most recognisable riff in the song. Guitard said that you can't copyright a bassline, a bassline does not make a song I replied with Pink Floyd's Money. Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, Sir Paul's Silly Love Songs...........
  3. SO TRUE. they should be paying US for the privilege of first dibs
  4. I would ask for a youtube clip or soundcloud clip of each person before agreeing to jam, so many timewasters out there. You showed class to stick it out and not walk, I don't know if I would have the patience.
  5. No black? that's anti-rock and roll man. though function bands aren't really rock and roll, more like corporate music machines
  6. now you mention it, I was at the mixing desk at the time, she probably thought I was the sound guy lol, talk about having low standards lol
  7. a young American couple sat front row at our gig. We are a 4 piece, acoustic and electric guitars, drums and bass. American:"woo wooo, play L.A. Woman" oh, we are all original, not one cover PS remember, no keyboards in this band. Our guitarist "we just played that, and we don't do repeats." rotfl then there was how I met my ex.......setting up the PA for a Sunday arvo gig she walks up to me, puts her arms around my neck and said "take me home and $%#^ me" "ummmm we're playing two sets" I made the drummer speed up in every song, by the end of the gig we were doing Ramones versions of everything hehe
  8. PRO TIP: repeat the "mistake" next time around so it seems you did it on purpose, that's JAZZ
  9. tried a set on my MIM P bass and love them. Smoothness of flats, almost, brighter yet no zingy clank like rounds. Best of both worlds.
  10. bazzbass

    Amp crackle

it's a process of elimination. try a different bass try a different instrument cable try a different speaker cable try a different head etc
  11. you are only ever a half step away from a correct note
  12. your handspan does increase with practice and time. If anyone doubts this , hold your hands together, palms touching, thumbs and fingers touching their opposite one. Now fan out your fingers as wide as you can. Your fretting hand should have a wider span. In my case it is the width of my pinky. Don't fret (geddit?) the one finger one fret thing, Using index middle and pinky works really well, and further up the neck one finger one fret is easier .
  13. the half rounds are smooth like flats, with just a bit of the round wound profile, kind of like Elixir nanowebs
  14. I have Jazz basses with rounds and flats, a P with flats (chromes) and one with D'Addario half rounds. Love and use all of them. The P with half rounds is my go to these days coz it gives me the smooth feel of flats with a bit of the growl of rounds
  15. so....it's not a p bass, it's a d bass hyuck hyuck
  16. used gear, you can usually on-sell it for the same price you paid for it SO IT"S KINDA FREE does it count?
  17. well, all young people know that nasa faked the moon landings.... yet they believe in zombies and vampires
  18. it's a sign of the times. with anything I buy, with a brief google search before ringing or walking in to any retail shop, I already am better informed than the salesperson, who's job it is to know everything about that item.
  19. me neither. I have a Visa debit card for online buying and payment of bills etc. I only put money into it just before buying something and only enough to cover that. If it ever gets hacked they won't get more than $5
  20. this is the work of the devil, be gone with you! we need an intervention methinks...... optimal number of basses to own = b + 1 where b is current number of basses owned repeat after me, optimal number of basses = .....
  21. one day I was playing along to Neil Diamond and wonderred who the bassist was, Shilo had a great bassline. Then I played America by Simon and Garfunkel and wonderred the same thing. 22. I bought an SX shortie P bass and it played really well. Much better than it's $220 Aust price tag would suggest.
  23. thanks for sharing , John Robert is one the most underrated bassists. His basslines on STP songs are so melodic
