My love hate relationship with acoustic basses
bazzbass replied to Brook_fan's topic in General Discussion
an acoustic bass needs an amp to be heard with two acoustic guitars and a cajon. Defeats the whole purpose, so if I need my amp, I take my P bass too. -
King of Birds always makes my neck hair stand on end

don't buy phones because of the cable length, buy an extension cable. Do you think every studio buys exclusive pro headphones with extra long cables?
-
analogue interface? via your mic input on the pc? hope you didn't pay much for it. Why not a USB interface? I cannot think why anyone would want such a device instead of a USB soundcard

Let Jake take care of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZqfxoCYfxw Jake Blues: I ran out of gas! I got a flat tire! I didn’t have change for cab fare! I lost my tux at the cleaners! I locked my keys in the car! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD! -
Live sound mixing needs a dedicated proffessional, not the guitarist or bassist to do it in a soundcheck. You need to hear the vocals clearly. The loudness of the drummer determines the lowest level the rest of the band can play at. Loud drummer means everything else has to be loud as well. Pro drummers can play fast AND softly at the same time 99% of pub band drummers are NOT pro drummers. It starts and ends with them

but the BEST was Sir Vivian Richards. Dennis Lillee beat him outside off stump Dennis "Hey Viv, it's the red thing" Lillee beats him outside off stump again. Dennis "Viv, it's the little red round thing. And again Next ball, Sir Vivian whacks the ball out of the stadium Sir Viv "You know what it looks like, YOU go find it"

Not music related Aussie footballer, Michael Voss, to his brother Brett Voss, playing for the opposing team,as he was lining up a shot for goal "My dad f@#$%d your mum" Brett missed the shot. Javed Miandad to Ian Healy's remark of "why are you so fat?", "your mum gives me a biscuit every time I f@#$ her"

Very true, it's just a passion of mine to play it note for note

how will changeing a lead improve your new setup? What's wrong with it? What is it?
-
how RUDE, looking away from whomever was kind enough to take a pic of you and your new bass Happy New Bass Day
-
we heckle ourselves "Thank YOU, you're a lovely audience, Wayne"
-
all the above, AND tuck your cable between your strap and the bass before going into the jack, it acts as a strain relief for WHEN you or a bandmate steps on your cable and you give it a big yank

I seriously doubt whole band will drop everything and meet up with you without even knowing if you can play? Imagine they are auditioning 4 bassists, that's 4 'dates' they have to organise. Won't happen. IF you audition well, they will organise a get together to 'get to know you'. Usually after the audition you'll all sit down and talk, that's how I've always done it anyway Don't over think it, learn their song. Best of luck

ooh I've learnt something today, I thought ALL MIA Fenders had the truss nut adjustment at the heel not the headstock. Was this just for this model bass?
-
yes, and I've ALMOST learnt Ramble On and Lemon Song note for note.........
-
I only heard about this song after someone posted it as their fave bassline. It's very understated, but every note is just perfect

We were booked to play a disco on a Monday night. I know, what could possibly go wrong, right? The disco was above a pub, entrance via outside stairs. Door charge $5 We played originals and REM,Smiths,Cure covers, this was in the 90s Before we started a few guys came up from the bar downstairs, looked in at the empty room and the $5 door charge and immediately went back down the stairs. THEN one of those pub crawl party busses rolls up full of girls on a hen's night. I gave them free entry as they were only staying for 15 minutes THEN all the men from the bar must've heard or seen them and all of a sudden they were all handing over their 5 bucks and the room was full. We start to play, place is ROCKIN then the whistle blew and all the pretty young things got on the bus and left I still remember the look on the blokes faces when they realised what had just happened Actually, WORST AND BEST GIG EVER
