whiskey half a bottle during the gig, the other half to wind down. and lots of weed, before and after always works for me oh I forgot to mention the sleeping pill, better taken AFTER the gig on second thoughts, maybe it's just the pill that works
-
been using these since the 1970s. Never had a problem except two broken strings from the ill-fated copper strings experiment in the 80s. Ever seen copper strings around lately? no, coz it's a STUPID IDEA

you bought it in good faith. Justin left it in a car overnight. I think Justin should give you $450, why should YOU be the only loser here?

Job sharing for a covers band - any advice?
bazzbass replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
do you expect them to agree with you and drop half their gigs? they will be best served by an eager bassist that wants to play every weekend or more. You clearly have other priorities, and there is nothing wrong with that. But this is not the band for you right now. The sooner you realise this the better off you will be -
Pros, Semi-Pros, Hobbyists / Weekend warriors etc.
bazzbass replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
ahah the photographer is a family friend of our guitarist, a freelance motor racing photographer who is just starting out with gig pics and so it's all for free :). We are buying him a very nice bottle of red, like over $100. here are a few pics of our gig last Sat night, all originals PS re vids can't hurt. our third ever gig was a battle of the bands that I did not want to do for a lot of good reasons, but we did it, and I video'd it with a zoom h2n and the venue gave us the stems from the desk that they recorded and we mixed them together. From those vids being on our facebook page we have been able to get some nice gigs. We just point venues to our FB page and it is all there -
Two album sides for My Generation? this I gotta hear The Live at Leeds set is still one I play all the time, classic act caught at their peak thanks for sharing Spongebob I've just realised something, about the similarities between the Who and Led Zeppelin. Both had great singers, drummers and bassists. And over-rated guitarists, one can't play lead, the other plays it very sloppily, I have since realised upon re-visiting their catalogue

I said semi pro because gig money is a percentage of my income stream, but it isn't very much, doubt if it covers cab fares and drinks at gigs lol But, we DO have stickers and a logo by a graphic designer. And an official photographer/ video taker.so we must be PRO rotfl pmsl -

all in or nothing, leave it for another bassist who wants all the gigs. It's covers, and not even your cup of tea, plenty of bassists would jump on this. -
how cool is that hehe I wish I was in that position. I am in a different position where a few venues have offered me gigs, as long as I find two other bands to share the bill with.
-
I too have had exactly 2 great drummers in 38 years. And the current one was put onto us by the first one hehe
-
I used to think drummers were easily replaceable, and most of them are, but a really good drummer, like I have now, is priceless, that's why we pay him nothing, badoom tsch
-
why would he book two gigs without being in a band? or were they booked before his last band split up? so you only played for an hour? or did you stretch 13 songs out to two hours? either way good deal hehe But, you know the rules, pics or it didn't happen

Etiquette involved using someone else's rig at a gig ?
bazzbass replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
sage advice right there maybe help him schlepp it before and after the gig? -
great melodic bassist. His band, the Stone Temple Pilots is hugely under-rated. I've lost count the number of times I've played their greatist hits CDs to people who said they didn't know any of their songs and without fail they all know at least three of them but didn't realise it was STP
-
yes I agree with your reasoning. Here is a great breakdown of Boston's Hitch A Ride. SO many little parts, all played by Tom Scholz, that together make an awesome song.
-
that is a good idea. I use a rechargeable battery to power my pedalboard, which has a wireless unit on it too, so just one instrument cable from the board to the amp
-
It might not work, but it is the cheapest option to try and the DI should be in your arsenal anyway
-
I understand you lack confidence, but you don't HAVE to join a band made up of far better musicians than you think you are. Find some others just starting out, then you will all be learning and you won't feel so out of place. But, playing with more advanced players is a great way to improve quickly

Travelling to gigs. How do you get there ?
bazzbass replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
tomorrow night's gig is a $20 cab fare away and we finish at 11, so there is drinking time afterwards. Venue has a house drum kit so I'm sharing the cab with our drummer who lives near me. He hasn't realised yet, but he is my roadie for the night hehe -
assuming they are good basslines that make the song better
-
I don't know any coverbands around here who could even try to play Teen Town lol yes I get your point, but that is hardly the case with your average cover band, not around here anyway.

Bars/ Pubs And The Inebriated Out Of Control Punters
bazzbass replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
Still, the more THEY drink, the better WE sound -
I'm sure the strings on there are 'steel or nickel plated at least" as are the slinkys, or have I missed something?
-
you are correct, they should be shut down, it is an unsustainable business model. Theyoung can listen to streaming radio and listen to ads like we did, THAT'S what pays the musicians
-
now you are being silly. with a cover all the notes are pre determined, nothing for you to add, just copy. No lyrics to write, no structure to decide upon. No solo to write, just copy what is already done. How is that the same as writing a song from nothing? Seriously your answer has no merit.
