  1. young people don't buy music. They think it should be for free and will pirate it or stream it. Soon as you give something away for free you have set it's price forever
  2. no one is asking for the genie to be put back into the bottle. All that needs to happen is for the publishers who hold the rights to demand a better deal from the streamers, that is all that is needed. It first needs all musicians to band together (pun intended) and refuse to allow their music to be streamed at the current rate. Sue for a fairer return for their music. It wouldn't be too hard to argue in court.
  3. I meant twice a month, NOT at the same venue. You still rely on your fans and friends to come to any show you play, right? give em some variety not so easy for my bands, all originals, not so easy to add new songs hehe but a friend's cover band is very lazy, it is obvious their setlist comprises songs that a) most of the musicians already learnt in their previous bands, and b) are easy to learn quickly. So, Back in Black, Summer of 69....you get the picture
  4. an artist who gets 500,000 streams gets around $300 you can't seriously think this is adequate remuneration?
  5. he is an idiot move on SOMEONE is gonna yell out at one of his gigs "hey, you got anything good on Spotify we can listen to"
  6. a lot of cover bands just play the same songs gig after gig, then wonder why they can't get a crowd when they play twice a month. Don't be lazy, change your setlist often.
  7. yes but in the USA the legal limit is 0.08 or even 0.10 I think? in Oz it's 0.05, and our beer is usually stronger so we can't even have more than a couple of beers in a night really kills the enjoyment of playing out, can't drink, can't toke, rock and roll !
  8. Jimmy Page wrote Stairway to Heaven on it
  9. no eye contact at gigs? man that IS weird you did well to leave. send them an email saying that your basslines are yours and their new bassist HAS to write his own
  10. play originals, then if the basslines suck....well, you know what THAT means
  11. and thus no musician makes money from selling their music anymore, well done sir! you are one of the reasons music is a dying industry. Merch and ticket sales are the only source of income available to musicians. WELL DONE
  12. no hand signals in my band "One two three four, when I say no more, STOP"
  13. firstly, plug the laptop into a different power outlet to the rest. Second, buy a cheap passive DI with a ground lift switch. Use it.
  14. Bazz's tip #1: to clean a filthy fretboard, an electric toothbrush with just warm water does the job perfectly. Bazz"s tip #2: to clean dust around the pickups and bridge with the strings still on, use a shaving brush I bought two door hanging clothes hangers three days ago for the same purpose as the OP Mine are stainless steel, with 5 pegs, perfect for cables and headphones
  15. yep, $7,000+ and when we ask for $200 a set for the whole band they look at us like we are robbing them lol
  16. "thank YOU, you're a lovely audience, Wayne" true story. Wayne might have been a record company A and R rep, or a festival booker so play like he is. He wasn't, he was our friend "If I said it once I said it a thousand times, Spinal Tap ABOVE Puppet Show"
  17. yep. As I say to the venues when booking a gig, "we both want the same thing, lots of happy people having fun and drinking lots". Coz, the more YOU drink, the better WE sound
  18. your punishment is to go back and listen to "Shang-a-lang" again
  19. hehe I knew someone would take it that way,OK," one other person , in a cellphone shop" hehe. two people in a city of 1.3 Million oi
  20. It is a very rare occurance to find a sales person that knows even half of what you know about a product after just 5 minutes of googling, especially electrical goods. My fave bass tech is one such person. ONE person in my local cell phone store......
  21. why try and learn something that is a bit beyond my current ability? to IMPROVE my playing.:) and coz I like it
  22. then that is the fault of all of you for not supporting original music. If EVERYBODY played in cover bands, who is gonna write the music for them to copy? Original bands here get more than half a dozen friends, don't be so condescending. Go out and see one yourself, you might hear something new lol
