STOP spreading the myth that original bands play for free !!! I'm in two now, and have played all originals since the 1980s and we never play for free apart from a festival as our first show with a brand new project.. WHY should a cover band get paid more for bringing the same sized crowd as an original band?

The hardest part about using a compressor is to learn how to use it properly. I have an MXR M87 that's been always on for a year or two. The other day I forgot to turn it on and liked my tone better without it. I need to start afresh with the settings. My playing is very even dynamically so I don't need it to correct any technique deficiency but rather to make the bass stand out . Any ideas on how to set it up? Fender P bass with chromes.

well, Charlie takes his cues from Keith, Bill is too busy checking out pre teen girls. He hardly recorded with them, Keef and Ron played all the good basslines. So, drummer takes cues from a zonked out Keef who tunes his guitar's 5 strings to open G so he can't stuff up anything, bass player is perving on the girlies,, no wonder they are the sloppiest band ever. That is their 'groove' lol

killer bassline, very hard to play at correct tempo for me too . I can almost play it at full speed, almost hehe XTC's Mayor of Simpleton is a tricky bugger as well. Ian Dury's Hit me with your rhythm stick gets me all cramped up too

Paint them with enamel or acrylic model paint, like used on plastic car kits. Tamiya even have them in small spray cans . five minute job

you won't get the timing and feel playing with two fingers. It's all about raking one finger upwards imho

My basses are 38.2 and 41.5mm, so yeah a whole 3mm I cannot notice that the P is wider.

Yeah for this reason I've stopped trimming the D and G strings because the peg can take the extra windings, just in case I wanna go thru bass with them later on.

I have the DR40, it has an auto level option, does yours have this feature? If not, get the band to play as loudly as they ever do and manually adjust the mic level so it's peaking, then turn it down a tad so it's no longer clipping. It won't ever clip if you do this right.

reach out to him before it gets awkward In an originals band, the drummer is the easiest to replace. A half decent drummer can fill in quite easily unless you're playing with weird time signatures. Our drummer is recovering from an operation, and at 65 it's taking him a while and we have a big gig in two weeks .We have another drummer on standby but we won't have a chance to jam with him....but he is a pro and I'm good at keeping time while he gets the gist of the song.......

I have 2 Jazz and 2 Precisions, I don't notice much if any difference. Maybe because I go from one to the other regularly depending on what string sound I'm after, I have one of each with flats and the other with rounds. I prefer a jazz with flats with an acoustic guitar, just sounds more natural. it's all in my head I am sure

I think we are describing the same thing. Only I am correctly describing the bow AWAY from the strings. It it's flat without string tension, with tension the middle of the neck is further away from the strings than before, this is a bow away from the strings and is exactly what you describe.:)

my fave shop since 1979 went bust last year. I tried my best, bought an Am Stnd P bass, ABG, MarkBass amp, Hartke cab, Tascam portable recorder, Epiphone Les Paul guitar etc, and a bunch of pedals. All of these were price matched to the cheapest Australian online price. They were actually making a loss on some items, my Hartke cab had gone up by $100 whilst I awaited delivery and they wore that lol There is no way a bricks and mortar shop can sell strings anywhere near the online prices. They only sell to those needing strings right NOW lol
