  1. DON'T fear the Reaper !
  2. picking speakers based on looks is crazy stupid. Buy the best sounding ones within your budget and grow some balls and put your foot down ffs
  3. and the coloured girls go 'doo doo doo doo doo doo doo"
  4. this. I use toothpicks for once the need for more profit worked in my favour, the toothpicks are about half as thick as they used to be, perfect for filling in screw holes. I never have to use glue either
  5. for sure cheap instruments now are way better than cheap ones from the 70s to 90s I'm amazed at my $299AU SX Jazz bass. Even the cheap pups and pots sound OK to me, easily upgraded later on, if I can be bothered, perfectly useable as is. The neck is the thinnest of my 5 basses and easiest to play. I have three Fenders, USA and MIM and this thing is just as playable
  6. we have different views on what creativity is. I won't change your view and you won't change mine so I'll leave it at that. It would be a boring world if we all thought the same
  7. I'd try a different tack, turn up to FULL volume, then explain that you WERE turned down when she complained. Go full bore til 10pm. Bass players rule the noise-making roost
  8. I said artists that ONLY use samples. If they actually do something creative with them then that is different. Mate, Aussies don't drink Fosters, we export it to you to drink England has never recovered from the blunder of sending the convicts to the land of sun , surf, and good times. leaving the do gooders in dank depressing wet England lol
  9. I bought a used Hipshot bridge. Had it a year before installing it. It has the teensiest tinest allen screws on the saddles. No allen key I had was small enough. I emailed Hipshot just asking what size allen key did I need, and they sent me out seven allen keys from the USA to Australia free of charge.
  10. I think over the years, some people have confused "having sustain" with "not having dead spots"
  11. artists that only use samples have no artistic talent, all they are are arrangers of pre-existing music, created by others. not even imho or ymmv !
  12. The MarkBass LM250 Blackline is an awesome amp. Takes to pre amps and pedals really well. Best amp I've owned, would like a 500 watter next
  13. this. I find with a VVT the sweet spot is neck pup full, bridge pup backed off until the slight mid boost occurs. All is personal taste of course
  14. nah here, the punters have money, but the only pubs with original bands don't have pokies, so can't splurge on bands. If only our punters could come to your pubs....it'd be win win lol, of course, you'd have to put some beers in the fridge! (and no, NOT FOSTERS) EDIT, I assumed you were in the UK apologies if you're not
  15. lol 48g, the battery would be most of that I wanted a new loaded control plate for my SX Jazz, guitarist mate said to buy the cheap Chinese ones BUT.....THAT'S....WHAT'S...IN....THERE.....NOW lol
  16. once you remove any idea of making money, or even breaking even, playing originals can be fun. We put our live recordings online for free, why bother trying to sell them, nobody cares. Venues don't pay original bands around here. Why is the money a punter out to see a DJ or coverband spends on beer worth more than a punter buying beers at an original band's show?
  17. No, getting RockSmith on PC allows you to use unofficial DLC created by the public. 30,000 songs that RockSmith can't get licensing for, like The Beatles, Led Zep etc. I figure I have bought their albums, and CDs, AND remastered CDs many many times, so my conscience is clear on this. Heck I still buy CDs, have never downloaded free music, so this is my only freebie.
  18. agree 100%. It's taken me a couple of years before my musical ear came back after a 25 year lay off. I worked out a bassline for a young bassist and he and the rest of the community were AMAZED that I worked it out just by listening to it. They had no concept of it at all. TBH it was easy to work out, a Bruce Springsteen slow song
  19. the coating on the Elixir Nanowebs is very long lasting, at least 6 to 9 months, maybe more.
  20. how did we ever learn stuff in the old days, lift the needle, back a little bit, oops too much forward a bit oops too much..... If we were lucky there was piano music for it, having to transpose it for bass lol oh my, it's SO easy now.
  21. Buy Rocksmith for PC. thirty thousand unofficial free songs to learn. Once you get used to the display it becomes the easiest way to play songs by the original artists. It helped me get back up to speed after a 26 year lay-off. Now playing far better than ever Learnt songs that were too complicated to do by ear, like Rush and Yes songs. It's helped me to write basslines for my originals band too
  22. Best: John Bonhams drum sound on When the Levee Breaks and Fool in the Rain, AND his triple kick drum on Good Times Bad Times Worst: The Seinfeld theme arrrrgh FAKE BASS, FAKE BASS
