  1. what a great bassline on Living in the Past, LEGENDARY MELODIC BASS I'll add Yes - Fragile it is the album that made me ask "what is making THAT sound?" That's the bass. "Then I wanna learn bass"
  2. Black Sabbath Black Sabbath suddenly realised I hadn't bought it on CD all these years
  3. played my first 3 gigs since 1995 in the last two months I'm 56 I'm not even the oldest in my band even reformed my 80s punk band, so I'm in TWO bands.....and I'm not the oldest in the punk band either
  4. if you had read my reply, I stated that I use proper speaker cables now. some are thinner than instrument cables so I doubt they are any better
  5. it's a plastic little amp. Don't expect too much from it. I have one, it copes with my 4 stringers ok jamming with an acoustic or two. Sorry I don't have a B string atm
  6. I have never heard of a fire or blown equipment from using instrument cable to connect amp to cab. Just sayin the hype is usually originated by the manufacturer. I have speaker cables. Some are thinner than my instrument cables so what gives there?
  7. I'd ditch your whole set and start again. Not inspiring at all.
  8. err Thoman, I've changed my mind, instead of a Fender Jazz I want a Precision bass. Keep the Jazz as well? why thank you!
  9. hmm they're definitely not tweeters not woofers either hehe
  10. my Hartke 210XL cab is the exact right height for putting a desk fan pointing at my bed. Coincidence? I think NOT. Very clever, Larry
  11. I had five basses. Too many So I gave my SX shorty P to my bandmate's musically gifted son. Then I found a full scale SX Jazz with the slimmest neck So I guess 5 is my number
  12. get a good DI or better a DI preamp like the Ampeg SCR DI or MXR M80DI+ or Sansamp BDDI these pre amps have EQ and overdrive so you can find your sound in the pedal and will sound similar whether through an amp or straight into the PA
  13. I bet they think that the only reason you haven't "made it" yet is because you haven't found a catchy amusing name lol I'm a realist,we haven't made it coz we're not that good
  14. "we don't always publish winners names" err in my country this is definitely against the lottery laws. Every competition falls under this category outrageous
  15. So a qualified electronics engineer bought an amp from the USA and EXPECTED IT TO WORK ,AS IS ,IN THE UK??? really?
  16. there are so many options at all price points today it's almost impossible to pick any one bit of kit. The aussie dollar is worth nothing these days and we pay so much extra import duty that our prices are ridiculous so I won't name rigs in each category. But IMHO the best value rig I could make out of my gear is my 2009 mim jazz, with MarkBass Blackline 250w amp with a Hartke XL210 cab. for $1400 AU, thats about five euros or two pesos hehe
  17. As I was setting up the PA for a Sunday arvo gig, a woman I knew hugged me , kissed me deeply and said "take me home and @#$! me" OK she didn't KNOW I was the bass player, but she did by the time I took her home hehe it lasted 9 years
  18. been playing in original bands since 1980. Yep, made no money, played to far call people, but I enjoy it more than making a bit more money playing to a few more people, playing songs I hate. That's the choice we have to make. I'm happy with the one I made. In the old days we used to pad out 3 sets with covers, but now it's more of a 3 original bands on a bill deal so we all play our best 45 minutes worth of OUR songs. Yeah it'd be fun to play in front of 400 dancing chicky babes, but I'd be playing Katy Perry songs.......
  19. the name does not matter, pick a word , use it. People learn your name, if they like you. Lots of bands with awesome names never made it, lots of bands with rubbish names made it. The name is irrelevant
  20. what's the frequency, Kenneth?
  21. It's obviously the first DI that is the problem. The exact same rig with a different DI worked fine,as you said. I like to bring my own DI that I know and trust. Radial J48 is my current goto
  22. bass players need to buy big cars. period. Anything else compromises your gig rig. Ever try a 210 cab? fits in narrow spaces really well
