1. obviously they need to keep time. the good ones listen to the whole band and know when to quieten it and when to step it up the ability to play softly, not many can. this is especially important in the studio where a drummer who can't hit his cymbals softly is a major pita the ability to lock in with me and to follow me when Im doing something, as I follow him when he adds a new rhythm we found such a drummer, he is in five bands, gets us gigs, is a pro, started lessons again to improve He is 65
2. that's the smartest thing I've read on here for a long time
3. except The Beatles and George Martin fundamentally changed the way music was recorded for every single artist since then. STEREO, multitracking, looping, effects like reverb and distortion.......
4. Sorry OP, but if you have no knowledge of The Beatles and their legacy then you DO NOT have a well rounded knowledge of music. Those that rubbish Ringo's drumming just show their ignorance.
5.
Don't believe you
it's true. they are out there, it only took me 36 years to find this one, you'd better get cracking
6. I'm currently searching for a staple player and a hole puncher for my new band. hmmm the staple sisters might be available badoom tsch
7. our drummer is a pro. If he wants to play softly he uses rods instead of sticks, and, this is the complicated part that most drummers can't comprehend, he hits the drums more softly.... I KNOW, amazing
8. the youth today have no sense of history, they know nothing about the past. They think Beiber invented music.
9. we've decided to have a theme for each gig so we're never dressed the same. It looks good on Facebook if you're not wearing the same outfit every single gig lol First show we wore mainly black next one we're wearing Creedence type checked lumberjack shirts.
10.
Hard? Call that hard? We used to rehearse in t'paper bag in middle of road.....................
LUXURY ! we used to DREAM of a paper bag to play out of Me dad would wake me up half an hour before bedtime and make me lick the road clean IF WE WERE LUCKY !
11. I only ever wrote one song. About 30 years ago. About waking up and saying hello to my bong. I have no idea how it goes apart from the main bassline. Guitarist remembers the whole thing. probably coz he stopped doin the bong thing
12. I thought we all pluck between the two pups, resting the thumb on the neck pup?
13.
I haven't used one, but I can't see how it's going to be easier than a desk with knobs on.
you serious? being able to mix the mic levels WHILST ON STAGE SPEAKING THROUGH THEM doesn't seem a tad easier? get your levels from front of stage, left of stage, right of stage, centre of room, back of room in one go whilst walking with the ipad.....
14.
I'd pay good money to see a twin neck Stingray..........
I'll just watch for free on the net I like to watch............................
15. great production for both video and audio best of luck, go get em !!
16. on the setlist, next to each song write I (intro) C G A V C G A C X Y Z you have to memorise the arrangement, ie I v c v c solo v c end or you could add it under the chords
17. was Rasmussen the one who wouldn't let Lars record until he did an hour's lesson each day? He asked Lars if he always started on the down beat and Lars asked "what's a down beat?"
18. if you are young, go for it, it'll be an experience if you are older, around 56 like me, well, life is too short from here on in to waste even a SECOND playing stuff you don't want to play a band is a democracy, if the other members want to play this stuff, you have to let them know that you don't . If they don't offer a compromise then it's time to move on
19. played my first pub gig since 1995 last Thursday night, headlining a 5 act showcase. 1st impression - I forgot how hot stagelights can get hehe 2nd impression. wow what a buzz. 3rd impression hmmm no mistakes tonight, maybe there is something to be said for playing sober and straight 4th impression woweee what a BUZZ !
20. who's gonna operate it? I'd ask a soundman to make some suggestions for you, he may also know of someone wanting to offload such a pa Go see some bands at the pubs you'll be playing at to get an idea of what size you need, that's the best way, while there talk to the pa operator.
21.
Was the heavily relic'd fender jazz his Jaco bass? CME to think of it that got re finished... Trujillo is a monster of a bassist and comes across as a thoroughly decent person. I have watched his bass audition for Metallica on YouTube a few times, not just for the quality of his playing but the genuine child like happiness of being chosen to be their next bass player.
the million dollar signing on bonus might have had a bit to do with that too
22. If I decided to play every instrument that I heard someone play it beautifully I'd be forever trying out instruments. Sounds like you don't want to be the foundation of a band but rather the lead, go at it, best of luck
23. how is that 'a bit different'? Original bands don't have promotors usually, they're only interested in money making covers. In my experience, you need to network with other bands and venues directly.
