for recording I use my 2013 MIA P. Live, I'll use my Jazz bass with the two acoustic guitars. It just sounds more natural sounding with the acoustics. Just playing for fun, if I want CLANK a la Geddy,Ox or Chris, the Jazz with rounds is the way to go If I'm playing Led Zep, a Jazz with flats or rounds gets the gig But yeah, oh what joy to have both availble to me

great bassline, I can see a heavy version working, give it a go

you are an inspiration no more whining about a heavy cold and blocked ears from me hope the second one goes as well, keep us updated, best of luck -
I`ve found that learning songs from my very younger days - as in primary school age - makes me smile a lot.
in a similar vein I was going to say learn some of your all time fave songs that you never played before. Beatles Oh Darling, or Stone Roses...it can be anything, Bassically/NIB, or XTC Mayor of Simpleton., but it needs to be interesting and fun.

come on guys who ru kidding? If you are in a covers band, you are really just a live DJ, you must play songs that make the girls dance and the guys come in to score that is it An original band is a real band, they write music without taking into account whether or not girly girls will dance to it. we don't care if girly girls get up and dance to it,we want you to listen to it. and don't tell me that cover bands make more money and play to bigger crowds, I can say the same about Beiber and Dylan, and I know who the real artist is here

if the song made you miss rehearsal, it's decision time. Either the song goes or you go. Surely they have enough awareness to hear that you are struggling with it? next rehearsal, either play a simplified line following the chords or fail dramatically so they have to stop mid-song,then discuss your feelings about it In my experience all members of a band have to be aware of each others playing and if one member isn't playing it properly they should be able to hear that it's not working and either offer to help you work on it or decide to drop it

easy peasy one of us says he's written a new song he plays it to us while we look at the charts he provided then we all play along, and bada bing bada boom, we have another song. songs went down well at our first gig at a music festival a fortnight ago,got another headlining multi band gig next week to test the waters again. that's the joy of playing originals, not knowing if the crowd will like it or not. the thrill you get when they like it is nothing like the feeling you get after playing a cover, regardless of the reaction to it, nothing like it

A couple of years ago I saw two Melbourne musicians perform both sides of Tubular Bells live. Just the two of them. They played brilliantly, with surprisingly minimal use of loopers. Great music -

To cheer y'all up now that Autumn's comin'......
bazzbass replied to Jazzneck's topic in General Discussion
I like Autumn, or as it is increasingly and annoyingly referred to, 'fall'. Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness... it's all a question of positivity and optimism. If winter is close, can spring be far away?
if they call Autumn "fall" because leaves fall why then didn't they rename Spring to F@#k as all the animals are F@#king at this time? -
that's why I've been in original bands my whole bass playing life of 36 years Guitarist : "I wrote a new song, here are the charts" Us: "yay lets play it"

How long is it fair enough to warrant sacking a perm member

my first drummer was hopeless. tried to drum like Moon but couldn't keep time. Put up with him for 8 years because he had a rehearsal room with a pool next to it. yep,we were lazy, left our gear there and all. Then we jammed with a different drummer and I realised I'd been keeping time for him for 8 years to the detriment of my development. fast forward 30 years and the same guitarist from that band and I are looking for a drummer for our new band. Couldn't find anyone so guitarist gets old drummer in. First thing he says is "I was crap before, trying to sound like Keith and not keeping time. But he was still the same lol. Guitarist was too polite to tell him so I had to be the bad guy "look mate, a drummer who can't keep time is useless to me, more than useless as it makes my job harder. " he thinks it was just me but the whole band agreed. -
Is there a possibility that he's just not cut out for this music lark?
THIS x1000 not everybody can be a musician if it ain't in you it ain't in you there is no rule that says just because you bought a bass, amp and lessons that you can be a bassist

some people just don't want to play for others some people have no ego at all I'm not one of them I suffer from anxiety but still love playing to a crowd (using the term loosely)

chord tones playing the right note is so much easier when you understand chord tones wish I'd known that crap drummers are meant to be fired !
That particular one was too heavy and gave me wrist pain. My current bass isn't/doesn't
soz, I re-read that bit again. -
age eventually you'll get to the age where the trade off in extra weight to be lugged in and out of your house, into and out of your car, into and out of the venue is far greater than the enjoyment you may get from an arguably better sound. we're talking tube bass amp heads, around 80lbs.......

pay someone to turn your pedals on and off backstage. Solved.

if a shorty causes you wrist pain and is too heavy, your only option seems to be shorter and lighter which means a U Bass. -
We have a rule in our band, more of a law actually. No hats and no waistcoats. Nothing screams "Late middle aged rocker" more than those two items. And yes I am 65, and bald.
I wore a Fedora in bands when I was 25 . Alright, NOW I am middle aged . But I no longer care what anyone on a forum thinks. Now, get off my lawn or fire the drummer. Damn kids.

first I've heard of that. I bet you one thing, his budget is a poopteenth of the major labels. A waste of money for sure, no way he'd get the same results as CBS WEA Sony Warners et al that is your manager's job anyway, make him / her work for their cut lol. When I was managing bands, I did it all, bookings, publicity, radio airplay/interviews, press releases, organising recording sessions. I earn't my 15% thats for sure hehe
