1. and you really believe she's playing it and not miming?
2. CBS jumped the gun, not surprising as news organisations mainly get their 'news' from twitter bulletins these days. Not dead, but not likely to live either, very sad
3.
We had an amazing gig in a pub/hotel in Chertsey last night. Probably the most enjoyable one I've ever done. Its a regular one that has been getting better every time we play there. We're getting a bit known in the area and its the sort of place that can be really good fun if you get the right crowd in. The missus came along with me and we met some friends for dinner in the venue before the gig - the guys in the band said they'd set everything up so i only had to rock up 5 mins before we were due to start and plug in/tune up. Result!! We also booked a room so i didn't have to drive 70 miles home afterwards and the boss gave us a discount and threw breakfast in for free. The crowd were up for it from the first note and didn't stop dancing and singing for 2.5 hours. Hot sweaty loud and a full on high energy set. We just had a 5 minute breather at half time so we didn't drop the crowd. There was a leaving party in the bar next door and a masked ball going on upstairs - by the second set most of those guests were jumping around in main bar where we were playing. We usually pull about 80/100 people to this one - the owner said there were about 450 watching us and quite a few drifting in and out and it was the best night he'd ever had there. We got some great good quality video that really caught the feel of the night and we played a blinder as a band - no mistakes, the best sound we've had there and absolutely the right set for the venue. And we got paid extra.......
great to hear you nailed it. Gigs like this make all the bad ones worthwhile to go through....almost hehe
4. that sucks, I hope he gets his gear back
5.
) so a drop in the protection might not be as bad as it sounds. But I do take your point.
no, no you don't. A drop in protection is very dangerous, don't risk it why don't you stop using seat belts, I mean you'll be able to exit the car faster.....thru the windscreen
6.
Chris Spedding - session man of many years, particularly Bryan Ferry etc.
saw him with Ferry in 78,he just had a hit with "motorbikin" and wore full black leather
7.
Added to my watch list. Just have to wait for Mrs Painy to have a night out now so I can watch it in peace .
buy her a ticket for a chick flick what the heck, she's your wife, throw in popcorn too, don't wanna look cheap hehe
8. If we set up too early, the wait before we go on is excruciatingly slow, thats when nerves kick in. I'll try some of your ideas. Of course, anti anxiety pills help a lot too
9. yeah Blue they sure have been used on a lot of gigs. I think they came out in the early 90s? I need to buy one. FinnDave that sounds awesome , the second gig that is Man you work hard, 3 hours with 15 mins break? wow that is impressive.
10. I recently bought the SCR DI and love the scrambler circuit, gets that 70s driven speaker sound, you know, THAT sound
11. +1 for the Mooer Pure Boost, does what it says
12. Misconceptions... or is it better on the floor? If you're having misconceptions , try having sex in bed, not on the floor
13.
I keep seeing posts about the concerns with speaker cab ohms ratings, and although with more efficient speakers and higher powered amps this is mainly irrelevant these days it got me thinking.
what makes you think speaker Ohms ratings are irrelevant? Hook up two 4 Ohm cabs to a 4 Ohm amp and tell me what happens
14. sorry to hear of your health issues, hope they ease up a bit there are so many light, small rigs available, take your pick mine is a MarkBass LittleMark250 Blackline paired with a Hartke xl210 cab.
15. great to hear that is great customer service, and deserves mentioning. My good experience was with Hipshot. I bought a bridge used and had it lying around for a year before putting it on one of my basses. Trouble was the allen key for the saddle screws was missing and my tiniest one was way way too big.I emailed Hipshot asking if they could tell what size it was and could I buy one from them. They sent me SEVEN , free of charge from USA to Oz.
16. just played an outdoor music festival,my first gig since 1994. Played through a beat up GK400rb and MM 412 cab best tone I ever played with people said the rhythm section kicked butt, and you know what? they were right. Not one fluffed note,a first for me hehe
17. just played my first gig since 1994. what a blast, best tone I ever had, audience said the rhythm section kicked ass , feeling good
18. played an outdoor festival earlier today supplied rig was a beat up GK400RB and an even more beat up Musicman 412 cab from the 70s BEST tone I've ever had, go figure. there's still life in those old amps and cabs
19. sax and drugs and rock and roll, it's very good indeed
20. generally an active DI and condensor mics want PP , if you have them , turn on PP, it won't harm the SM58s or most other dynamics
21. if you're using heavy distortion you'll want a different EQ than if you're playing reggae or jazz or motown or..... in the pub gigs I had bass at 10 mids at 12 and treble at 2 to cut thru the 'crowd' a bit better, depending on the room acoustics of course but now i like bass 10 mids 2 treble 10
22. whether I play my Fender US Stnd P, my MIM P,or my MIM Jazz , I love the sound I get from each. That's why you have to play them before buying em
