1. as long as you don't block any venting or intake slots you'll be fine. My MarkBass has them on one side.
Yay for proper 220V+ power (we have the most here in the UK).
sorry to burst your bubble of smugness, but we have had 240V down under, though it's been pegged back to 230V now.
3. very nice beater my beater is a new SX black Jazz bass. It actually plays better than my MIM Fender Jazz lol it has the best neck of any of my basses, apart from my MIA P with it's fancypants rolled edges, swish ! New pups is all it needs, and not that urgently, even the stock strings sound good. $299
4. In what context could the neck pickup be called the back pickup? Never heard it called that
5. are you just pretending to be outraged coz your GF is reading over your shoulder? why are there DANCERS at your rock gig? for males to ogle them, that's why. or else you're kidding yourself.
6.
Its always far more interesting when you get underpaid at a gig...
THIS happens all the time hehe glad I live an 'interesting' life. I remember arguing with the publican of our residency over ten bucks. In the end I told him he was a cheap bastard and to keep the ten bucks as it was obviously more important to him. I could be this magnaminous because he always went home before closing, leaving his head barmaid to close up. Unbeknownst to him, she loved us and hated working for that stinge, so she would ALWAYS open up the bar, including the top shelf for us and our 'roadies' after load out hehe. Ah Michelle, you were the BEST !!
7.
Pokie rooms seemed to be alive and well when I was in Oz a year or so back. There's no direct equivalent in the UK.
depends where you were. Sydney have huge RSL and Rugby clubs with hundreds of machines. In Adelaide they are in most pubs, from 3 to 50 machines kinda setups.
8. you started a new thread to say one retailer had a recommended retail price on an item?
9. U2 without doubt ever since their debut live EP with Party Girl I still cannot believe they released that pathetic, mistake ridden "solo". The most talentless drummer and bassist in a big name band ever probably.Oh and the guitarist is crap too of course. Apart from his rack of effects, he just plays one note and hands over to his rack lol
10. pokies. darts, 8 ball and bands got turfed out. filled the room with pokies made a mint. installed good restaurants with their windfall now they are empty-ish pokie rooms are dead, people have lost all their money and are now too broke to gamble. live music making a slow comeback in a desperate bid to bring in crowds but random breathos have killed it I fear. Why would you risk losing your licence for the privilege of paying ten bucks for a pint of draught beer ffs?
11.
Anyone know what the key difference between the Focusrite Gen 1.0 and Gen 2.0 kit is? And would a beginner like me notice?
I'm sure Si will be here to answer more comprehensively, but this is what I know The only problem people had with Gen 1 was that those with hot guitar pickups found it hard to get an undistorted sound thru the instrument inputs. Many many guitarists had no problem at all. I used mine for passive bass and acoustic guitars with no problem at all. So the Gen 1 MAY work for you, but it might not. Latency has been improved for Gen 2 but latency was never an issue with Gen 1. So the Gen 1 is half price? very tempting. If money is tight, then grab it. If not, Gen 2 is gonna be better.
12. I wince at the two amp thing, like, bass amps are too easy to lug around, let's use TWO hehe
13. I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, solo the neck pickup and roll off the tone knob I play both and when I can't be fagged swapping basses for a P sound that's what I do.
14.
Btw Markbass = Alfa Romeo (
I strongly disagree, Alfa Romeos are probably the worst cars to own in Australia where they rust out within a decade. Nice cars to drive, but no, you don't buy one in Oz. I spent so many friggin hour filling in my cousins Alfasud with chicken wire and putty lol. No, not in Australia.
15. i found it with Chromes on a Jazz thru the Ampeg SCR-DI
16. that sucks big-time Joe, really hope you get em back
17. I can always tell the difference between a Jamerson and a Kaye bassline. One grooves, the other plods along playing pretty pedestrian lines
18. he calls it a mixer, hmm something tells me he's not a bass player........
19. to make my class D amp more retro, I've added 20kgs of lead weights.
20. I use a Tascam DR 40 handheld recorder. It has 2 inbuilt condensers and if positioned correctly will easily capture a rehearsal. And I upload them to a dropbox the next day so everyone can practice along to it,a great aid, so we come to the next jam with new ideas. It's often the politest way to alert someone to their shortcomings, or to convince a songwriter that his song just doesn't work. It also alerts us to great playing by others that we sometimes miss at the time as we are busy trying to play our role. We have two guitarists. Both used acoustics originally. But recordings showed that they both sounded too similar, so the lead uses his telecaster now and it sounds great with the other acoustic.
21. The M80 Dual bag is $690 AU. yes, $690, a couple of hundred more and you have a new Fender MIM . I just bought a second gig bag for $60. Lets face it,a bag really only protects from small knocks and drops, anything more and a bag is useless.
22. The Hipshot sites shows all their models and what basses they fit, if you don't see your bass there, email their support people, they are truely great
23. the offcuts make great nut files and pipe cleaners
24. I was just thinking how to make my basses even heavier, once the shoulder goes numb you can add extra weight lol
