Do this until (hopefully) you have enough GOOD originals for a set and play a small gig as an originals only band as a support, and take it from there. TBH I wanna see either a cover band or an original only band, but that's probably because in our early days we played both and I just don't think it satisfies either type of band enough to play both.

Seriously , there are some sounds you can only get with effect units, chorus, fuzz,etc. You CAN'T get fuzz from your fingers. Your hypothesis lacks any credibility. Yeah I too can go trebly and tight by plucking near the bridge and fat sounding by playing at the end of the fretboard, but it won't recreate effects.

yeah if you like zing then Elixirs aren't for you. Sounds like steels are essential to your sound, personally, I'd stick to your beloved Rotos, no other string will last any longer apart from coated strings which won't have the zing you need.

[/quote] In my 36 years of playing, I have to say even a badly setup bass from a private seller will be better than any from a shop. NB except my old fave shop where the guy in charge of the bass section was an actice bass player who did fantastic setups. Every other shop? rubbish setups straight from the factory.

good on you, I'm approaching 56 and want to be in a cover band as well as my original alt country band. Mainly because I'd actually like to play to a crowd every now and then. Keep us posted on your progress

that's why good songwriters are so sought after, not everyone can do it. I can learn any complicated bassline you throw at me, given time and resources, but coming up with original basslines takes me ages. I'm not even talking writing a song, just coming up with interesting basslines. Try listening to music you don't normally listen to for new ideas on phrasing and rhythms

I get depressed when music that I still think of as new makes it into the classic rock genre.

[/quote] I think these days with CNC, the country of manufacture has less impact on the final quality of a bass than the quality of the hardware and electronics does. VM over Affinity every day of the week. Personally I'd go used MIM. I think my 2013 MIM P is really really good My MIA is only better due to the hardware and electronics and the rolled board edges.

write out cue cards showing chords for verses choruses etc. Just writing it out helps a bit then as you learn them you might just need to note the key of the song or the first chord. keep them on top of your amp just in case you memory fails you

Hi Rick great sounding release. The instruments sound fantastic, your bass really punches through the mix. What gear did you use? Guitars and drums also sound great. The songs are pretty good, I can get easily bored but I listened to them all, albeit on crappy speakers. Now, the vocals. On some songs , during some passages the vocals can barely be heard then they are in your face in others. I think it is the singer's lack of technique or the engineer mixed it too far down. I also think the vocalist needs some delay on her track, or maybe double track it. Her voice is OK, but it needs a bit of help to match the quality of the rest of the band. I'd say this is an impressive debut and best of luck to the band. The more you record the better you will all get, not that you need any improving, it will naturally get more polished. Without knowing your relationship with the engineer, I'd try offering the masters to a different person to re mix it.Mainly the vocals. But if it puts noses out of joint or if they did it for the experience and no charge then let it slide, I dunno. If it were me, I'd be damn proud of it as it is

if you can't play any other instrument then it's pointless trying to record on your own. Spend the 500 to buy people free drinks til you find some musicians to record with. seriously.
