1. guitar tuners generally aren't strong enough to handle bass strings. But there really is only ONE way to know for sure...... at worst , if they don't suit, you could put em on a six string , after buying two more, of course.
2. the D and G strings are where the GOLD is at ! Listen to JPJ, they are the money notes, especially around 5th to 11th frets and above
3.
You'll have the Precisionistas onto you with comments like that
yeah but it is the truth.
4.
Sorry, but I disagree. What about the original artist that can't sing in the original key? Is it fine for them to do it and not anyone else?
completely different scenario. If I go to see Whitesnake, and the original singer has to sing in a lower key, I'm ok with it, COZ HE IS THE ORIGINAL SINGER and still sounds right. whereas if I go to see a Whitesnake tribute band I expect it to replicate the original act. That is the whole point of a tribute act If you don't understand the difference then there is no point trying to explain it.
5. guitarists who don't know chords, where DO you guys find them? trust your first instinct, run, Forrest, run
6.
I see. Cultural differences.
that's a polite way of saying it hehe
7.
Thanks for that, amazing playing and tone. Front pickup only I wonder?
I think you're right, I am using my P and getting the right tone and I get a P tone on my jazz with just the neck pup
8.
Why?
post a thread asking if it's ok to use a 115 and 410s it's the same as asking them why they pack guns with their basses lol
9. find a happy medium, you'll get used to it soon enough I too was a fingers only snob, but there are some rhythms that are easier with a pick, like Duck Dunn and Skynerd for example
10. yep blues funk or blunk I call it What Is and What Should Never Be is a great example of this. Just beautiful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYzjH7DciiA
11.
. . . . or choose another band to copy.
this he is not being rude, but you either need a different set of songs to cover, OR you need a singer that can sing ACDC songs. ACDC songs usually involve As and Ds a lot, playing them transposed won't sound right, trust me I know tribute bands where the singer can't copy the original vocalist are very lame, very
12. your first pedal should be a multi coz you need a tuner but that is not fun nor wow, just necessary then u can try all the other effects to see what your next pedal buy will be it doesn't end
13. at those prices grab another cab to get full use out of the amp Then you only need one cab for small shows / rehearsal, only take both when needed another 410 or the 115 cab. don't tell talk bass tho if u mix em
14. well if it's Foo Fighters then what you are playing is almost certainly better I like the FF but the basslines are very ordinary.
15. bassstringsonline are pretty cheap but just google your brand and see what online sellers nearer to you have them priced at
16. why do some people refuse to believe common sense and basic physics?
17.
Seems there are two totally different types of mute being confused here. These wraps that go at the headstock end are to dampen sympathetic resonance, where open strings, or the half of the string behind your fretting finger can create unwanted overtones. These won't give you a Motown sound, for that you need foam at the bridge end (or a wrap like the one pictured going round the strings near the bridge).
THIS fret wraps reduce unwanted finger- on- rounds noise and resonances anyone suggesting it mutes fretted notes has a poor understanding of physics , musical knowledge and logic
18. The last song Soundgarden played that night was Led Zep's In My Time of Dying, which was a first (I think). After praising the Detroit crowd he said "I feel sorry for the next city" he knew
19. only YOU know what your ideal setup numbers are. Do you prefer a low or high action for a start. Or in between? there are no set rules for this, just the manufacturer's suggestion which doesn't include low and high alternatives. My action is low so it buzzes a bit if I really dig in. No idea what that is in millimeters though
20. sounds like he is musically retarded
21. ring the utility company and get the name of the meter reader. Just in case. He now knows you have some nice instruments.
22. Lag otherwise we'd all be jammin on the net, duh
23. do you have a graphic equaliser in your setup? Try boosting the bass and cutting the high frequencies. can you tell us what the song is?
