Cheers guys, I knew BC would come up with the goods. Respect. Just one thing. How important is the quality of the audio interface? As I say I have a Zoom H4, will that be ok with reaper?
Any interface will work with Reaper, but you won't know if the sound out of it is acceptable to you until you start to record with it. I use a cheap Focusrite Scarlett and the quality is way better than I expected from a $120 unit.

I used to get my ears syringed by the doc every year or two. Just a big syringe filled with warm water. Then they introduced a new improved method involving a pistol grip device with a tube you put in the sink filled with water.....doesn't work, my ears were more blocked. Progress lol I bought a small syringe to do it myself.
Nice one, even without the opp. Back in the day, when I was a drummer, my then 17 year old brother was asked to learn our set list. All originals. The bassist had walked two weeks before a gig. My brother nailed every one of the 23 songs, in the first week, by learning them from a cassette tape we knocked out at a previous rehearsal. If you think how "variable" the playback speed and quality of a cassette back then, I am still impressed today. He did all that in one week so we could rehearse before the gig, with no charts, no tab, they were all originals, on a borrowed bass and rig.
that effort is worthy of LEGEND status as someone who has always played originals, I'm STILL learning songs after two years hehe

yep, Reaper is the bees knees, only Cubase has more users and it's over ten times the price. Reaper is $60, for at least two or three years, maybe more, a licence lasts for two full versions. Fully tweakable. Fully featured. Top quality. Oh, and probably the best feature for new users?, an awesome forum full of helpful people and lots of free tutorial vids too.

Surely this is an April Fool - just 10 days too late

pffft the kid uses a pick ! how lame are Korn, resorting to a publicity stunt like this? -
the bass player's makeup is creepy.was he a cross dresser in later life? I see the guitarist and Suzi Quatro have formed a band.....playing covers ! lol yes I literally laughed out loud

well done. the advantage of playing newer songs is that the girlies like to get up and dance to them, and I like watching them dancing

Recorded a song with the band.... what next....
bazzbass replied to jonnyenglish358's topic in General Discussion
yeah I'm in the same boat. new originals band, I record us using Reaper on my laptop. In all reality, even if you sell thousands of copies on iTunes, you still won't see much money. Even huge artists with record company support have to gig to make any money these days. So yeah, giving it away makes sense. We are thinking of doing a CD launch where we give away songs on a physical CD, but mostly I'm thinking of printing business cards with the links to download our songs, our bandcamp and FB page etc. -
kid plays with a pick ! nuff said hehe seriously though, that bass is too low, regardless of who his dad is. 12 years old? shouldn't he be in school or is the tour during school holidays? says more about Korn actually lol

New band quandary - advice sought, please...
bazzbass replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Unless it was booked before you joined, it's very unproffessional of them to expect a new player to be ready to record so soon. On the other hand, in the studio you will have more time to come up with parts that suit, maybe. Either way, the second you record a song, you will be coming up with better basslines, ALWAYS happens -
you should have said "if they are old rubbish why are you trying to buy them off me?"

I'd apply for band 1, I'd change the wording of "ability to stay in the pocket with drummer would be quite dandy" to ability to stay in the pocket with drummer is essential Band 2 lost me at "no drugs, attitudes or weird egos", that's ALL THE BEST PLAYERS, and, don't tell me what to do Band 3 is out just coz I hate country , but don't mention the band name in the ad, unless you are a big name.

How to quickly tell what key a song is in?
bazzbass replied to danonearth's topic in Theory and Technique
Don't know what you mean by "root". In Stand By Me you play the chords.
you've never heard this term used in relation to scale notes? Bass players don't play chords in Stand By Me. They play chord tones, made up of the Root third and fifth of the major scale for major chords. -
??? Licence is not time-limited, methinks..?
they say a licence lasts two full versions, so if u came in at V5.23 it will last until V7.23, no idea of what that is in years

Respected players using "clickbait" on Youtube.

the more money they make the more free vids they can post -
sorry that this has happened to your band. Definitely get him to a specialist, most doctors think they know more than they do. Med students at Uni were amongst the biggest idiots I ever encountered, never trust their opinion. Maybe he can be your soundguy while he recovers and can help bring a new guy up to speed?

it's all good ear training. The very first song I figured out by ear (we had to back then, no net hehe) was Night Moves by Bob Seeger, literally two notes, but it gave me confidence

Wot, no new Beatles film and album thread
bazzbass replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
you've got to admire the inventiveness of whoever looks after the Beatles back catalogue, a master class in how many times you can sell the same stuff and over and over, still while mugs will buy it why not? and when you've run out of formats just go back to vinyl again, you couldn't make it up
Jimmy Page beats the Beatles (see what I did there?) at this, releasing three different 'remasterred' versions of their catalogue. I should know, I bought them all, wanting the latest technological advancement in sound lol, yeah, I'm a sucker ! -
get your amp a foot off the floor to decouple it.

yeah the Behringer copy of the bddi will get you there, easily. But I personally would use a T21 VT DI, closer to tube overdrive imho ymmv PS my fave Bowie bassline is Space Odditty, Herbie Flowers at his genius best
