  1. put a spacer or a nut between the ball end and the bridge ? if there is enough string at the other end to wind onto the tuner of course
  2. yep, in between I seriously think of spending a grand on a HX Stomp lol, it's a sickness
  3. of course he doesn't tap dance. Doesn't have to. I expect he has full FOH support and the band has their own soundperson who dials in compression, delay and any EQ his bass sound requires. It's funny, I must've spent $3,000 on various pedals, pre amps , dirt, compressors. I just go direct to my amp now. Wanna buy some pedals?
  4. I've been unfaithful. I bought a drum kit, my basses sit there unused, except for rehearsals.
  5. nice gig reports by all I find sparse crowds harder to play to. After 40 years though, we play as if it's packed and those there get into it eventually
  6. I listened to the lyrics just the other day, dirty old man. Beneath your perfume and your make-up You're just a baby in disguise And though you know that it's wrong to be Alone with me That come on look is in your eyes
  7. sounds like great fun In Australia,we could drive the distance from London to Danzig without seeing another human, let alone a city or town , sigh
  8. Play as loudly as you will during the set I chose to play Money, mainly because it uses notes on all 4 strings so the engineer got an idea of my bass's range
  9. good choice. I fear my already bad tinnitus, I mean REALLY bad would mean I'd have to have IEMs too loud and probably cause more damage. Safer for me to wear good ear plugs and keep stage volume down. Luckily my bandmates are seasoned pros with tiny guitar amps and a pro drummer who doesn't play very hard. Wish we had IEMs, or even just good ear protection back in the 80s and 90s
  10. If changing string type I'll do a whole setup. Clean fretboard and frets An electric toothbrush with a circular head is great for cleaning the fretboard, just a bit of warm water is all you need. Clean around pickups and bridge with a shaving brush Check intonation check and adjust relief Set witness points at bridge and nut, pressing down in front of and behind the saddles and nut. It reads like a lot to do, but once you've done it a few times it gets easier. Also helps to have GAS and buy six basses !
  11. Spice Girls wouldn't make my top hundred British bands. way after Beatles Stones Cream Tull Sabbaff Led Zepellin.....no need to go on lol Radio, isn't that where you go on a Saturday arvo to get the footy scores?
  12. the Elf is a seriously good DI, with the bonus you can add the 8kg 1x10" cab as your stage monitor
  13. screen protectors, the electrostatic ones. A couple of ipad sized ones should cover the whole back.
  14. cheers Davo Youtube is great for starting out on an instrument learnt there are 4 main stick grips...... learnt where to balance the stick in your hand playing along to the music ingrained in my brain since I was 3, Beatles, Stones, then onto some Led Zep. Now playing along to whatever youtube randomly plays for me. Loving it. Bass? haven't touched it in two weeks d'oh
  15. no, fret it properly otherwise it's not in tune. If you mean a ghost note, you don't need to fret at all
  16. it's a great feeling to gig again isn't it? I too retired in 1995, had my first gigs end of 2017. I'm enjoying gigging immensely this time around, and am playing for the pure love of it, originals with my bandmate throughout my career beside me again., and the kid brother of our other bandmate who is no longer with us, feels right
  17. I have a theory that this is exactly why punk HAD to happen when it did Specifically, Dazed and Confused..........and Moby Richard
  18. I am lucky, my band's drummer is 65 and knows his craft, even though he doesn't think so. The fact that he is in 6 bands hasn't convinced him either lol. He is glad I bought this kit as it means he doesn't have to schlep his electric kit to our weekly rehearsals at my place rotfl. So I thought as a rental fee he can give me pointers as I'm starting so I get the right positioning of each drum, my posture, stick holding etc.
  19. Hiya, since I was 12 I wanted to play drums, well, today, only 47 years later......I finally bought a Yamaha .DTX402K electric kit. I'm hoping learning drums will advance my bass playing too. Any tips for a total noob? The module comes with tutorials built in which will get me started. Any genre that would be easier, or just jump in with songs I like? Any advice would be appreciated cheers
  20. hehe oops, 2 pounds? what weighs two pounds, apart from a litre of water, roughly

  23. make the G string 34" (if that's the scale length), set the D string saddle further backby the thickness of the D string, and so on. Will be pretty close.
  24. makes sense,Nancy, SBS is the Oz broadcaster, started in 1980 as our multicultural channel(s) They show all sorts of shows from all over, lots of European content so no doubt they have ties with the EBU.
