1.
Very, very nice. Are you up for a trade at all Nick?
Thanks, it is quite a special bass this one Really after cash TBH, and I'm pretty much sorted for everything I need...what were thinking trade wise?
  2.
That's nice, what is the nut width?
Thanks... it's a standard '62 width, just a shade under 1.75".

  4.
Great basses ...wish I still had my 4 string Shergold... it was even better when id replaced the standard 100 pots with 250ohm pots....
+1.... IMO upgrade to 250k pots is really needed on Shergolds. I've also rewired the pickup on mine from weedy anaemic sounding parallel wiring to series (in mono) as per P-Bass. It's an easy reversible mod but makes a massive difference - like night & day. Here's my 1980 beauty:
  5. *SOLD* - Mods Please Delete 2004 Fender CIJ '62 Reissue Precision for sale In a lovely shade of vintage orangey fiesta red - possibly a salmon pink(?) , Fender 4-ply tortoise shell pickguard, with spiral saddle 'vintage' correct bridge. Upgrades:

Seymour Duncan 'Vintage' SPB-1 pickup
CTS Pots & switchcraft jack socket
PIO tone cap
Fender bridge & pickup covers
Tuners upgraded to Fender USA 'Highway One' type.
Bass is in great condition, with no noticeable dinks. Only defect is a small chip in the lacquer down in recess of neck pocket, with is difficult to spot anyway. The neck is good, with no issues - finished in a cool vintage tint colour. It's a nice player, comfortable & not too chunky, basically a good '62 profile. No wear to the thin vintage style frets, would guess from their condition that this bass has always had flats on it. It's currently strung with nice thumpy 45-105 Status flats with a low to medium action, but can put a set of 45-105 Fender nickel rounds on if buyer prefers. Genuine reason for sale... I already have an old Tokai that I can't part with, which although just as good as this '62 RI (IMHO) I can't justify having two P-Basses at the moment, plus I need the money towards another purchase. So sorry no trades please ... This has the big P-Bass tone & classy looks at a bargain price. Whoever bags this bas in their Christmas stocking will be happy with it. Location is Bristol/Bath area, but happy to post anywhere in UK or Europe if needed. Please PM me if you have any questions or would like any more info. Thanks
  6. I live not far from Kingswood Richard. PM me... Cheers Edit. Apologies - I'm near the Kingswood in South Gloucestershire. Sorry! :-(
  7. Love it. Sort of reminds me of some of Bowie's 'Station to Station' with the brilliant George Murray on bass, which is fine by me
  8. Great to see you back Jon!

    Octave Pedal
hi Nick to be honest, they were parts I had been playing before with an OC-2, so I had tailored the lines to the tracking of the OC-2. Didn't have the time to sit down with the pedal and explore that much... but I think bettern than an OC-2. Held notes were not glitching nearly as quickly as with the BOSS.
Cool.... just ordered a PCB for a OC-7 from Madbean. I'm gonna build a clone, find out for myself! Cheers Nick

    Octave Pedal
I'm in the studio this week and been using a pearl octave into various fuzzes, synth bliss!!
Hi Gaz, how do you find the tracking on the Pearl? Also how low does it go? Currently using an EBS which is alright, but fancy an octave up pedal myself, the Pearl OC-7 sounds interesting. Cheers Nick
  11. 'Pressure Drop' album by Robert Palmer..... Some great funky playing from James Jamerson on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IfD2Ft8zPU
  12.
Hi, Nick. Sorry, I just saw this post. Don't suppose you have any soundbytes do you? I believe that there is a few different EMG P Bass pickup models so I'm not sure which video on Youtube would be the closest to your EMG. Cheers
No worries just caught your post! Didn't realise EMG now did so many different P-Bass pickups, quite a few! If you're still interested here's a couple of clips of the great Bobby Vega demoing 'original' EMG P-Bass pickup FYI If interested, please PM me, cheers. 18.
TBH I can sort of see why GK aren't that interested. They probably would much rather you had bought 240V version from their UK dealer network in first place and now they are having to provide support for something that shouldn't really be their problem. I can't help but think it would be far easier if you just bought an external step-down transformer and left the amp as it is.
. Understand too, but I wasn't really after any support as such. I just wanted to buy a component that is in their spares catalogue, without getting messed about. They work within a global market so shouldn't be a problem for them, as for any other company that deals on an international scale. Nay worries, I'll just source it from elsewhere
  19.
If it is a standard voltage http://www.rapidonli...l-Primary-82719
Thanks Phil.
The 800va ones look like a good deal on Phil's list. Can't believe that I got mine from Polar this time last year for £88! Just be very precise with the measurements, Nick. Fitting the toroid into the space between the power amp PCB and the amp sides is a bit tricky, it takes a bit of rotating around the M8 bolt to get it right. PM me if you want me to take the top cover of my 400rb and check anything, Nick. Martin
Hi Martin, Measured about 42v on the secondary's. Regarding the price, you did well to buy one when you did. Apparently, 'the actual manufacturing cost had increased over the last decade but had not been updated incrementally over that time by GK'
Be very wary of getting it from polar audio. I did last year for a 2000RB. They sent one with the wrong electrical values and it blew the amp main board. GK were very helpful and basically supplied all the internal electronics required to fix it "free of charge" Check the spec of any transformer with GK before you fit it.
Thanks for the heads up Gelfin. Not sure what to make of Polar Audio TBH. When I first enquired, they quoted £65 (exc VAT). Then I received an invoice for £186. However none in stock, lead time of 8+ weeks..... After replying querying the price, I received an email from Polar admitting 'a price disparity' which was to be investigated with GK.... Polar Audio have now got back to me to inform me that the price is actually 'correct as it was recently determined that the actual manufacturing cost had increased over the last decade but had not been updated incrementally over that time by GK'. To be fair they are now offering the transformer at reduced price of £133 and there is now one in stock(?!)... This has gone on over past fortnight, phone calls & emails.... I'm not even confident now that I'm going to get the correct transformer. So I think I'm gonna look elsewhere. Gallien Krueger make great amps, but this is not good aftersales or product support IMHO, not from from this experience.
  20.
http://www.blselectronics.co.uk/ This may be worth a try.
Many thanks Casapete, will give them a try - gotta be cheaper than the price GK have quoted me! Cheers Nick
  21. Hi All, I'm after a reasonably priced toroidal transformer to retrofit a 110v GK 400RB series II, that I recently bought from the States. After initially quoting approx. £65 plus VAT on the phone, Polar Audio have now emailed me a revised quote for £186!! Could anybody please advise a decent reasonably priced alternative supplier? Many thanks in advance for any advice Nick
