I get my enclosures from Tayda, sometimes Mouser for painted ones. FYI, you need a Hammond size 1590A box. cheers

Been looking forward to this for a (long) while too... By all accounts it's quite a rollercoaster of a film. Youth also uses a couple of pedals I've built in his live rig

[/quote] I've built one of those before, put it in a 1590A enclosure - fantastic little compressor on bass. Try a higher value resistor, say 15k to dim down the brightness of that migraine inducing blue LED. Also, I rub those blue LEDs with a bit of fine sandpaper, to take the sheen off - gives effect of diffused LED. Much kinder on the eyes

I like Sadowsky flats. They're not high tension & not as slack as TIs. Tone wise have quite a bit of mid presence, not unlike Thomastiks. For a more traditional, thumpier tone try Laklands - lovely to play.

If you're OK with relic'ing, I'd say go with a 'Roadworn', if you can find a second-hand one even better. They have similarities with the Classic 50's, but a much nicer neck IMHO. Mine plays like a dream

Nickel rounds, about every six months when I feel the intonation or tension maybe going. Flats, until I break a string or fancy trying something different. About four years now on Sadowsky's, and still sounding good.

For what he is charging, I think the price is more than fair. On top of the cost of the parts (that vactrol can be a PITA to get hold of) also taking into account the time taken to build this pedal, makes it a good deal IMHO. If I was after a compulator, I would buy it.

I've built clone of the Zeibek Submarine which is based on Albert Kruezer's preamp - more stripped down version, very easy build. I like it, it's great little preamp. I use it a lot.

A Klon Centaur clone with a blend control...Good idea though.

I use an old GK 400RB too, it's a fantastic little amp. One thing to know though, is that the 'Direct' out from these amps is unbuffered & comes straight off the power amp. When you're playing live, I'd imagine you're running that amp fairly hard, which results in that big GK signature growl, what I believe Robert Gallien refers to "hitting the rails" tone. Maybe in the studio, you're not running the amp as high as you would do when gigging? I'd go with Vail's suggestion, try disconnecting the speaker & run it pretty flat out, see if you're acheiving that tone you're after. Be wary though, these amps get hot!
