1. I bought mine from Bass Strings Online too. At the time they were the best price, and not many other places sold them anyway... Still on my bass, nearly four years now. Probably my favourite flats

Custom paint jobs

Brilliant, I really like these.
3. I get my enclosures from Tayda, sometimes Mouser for painted ones. FYI, you need a Hammond size 1590A box. cheers
4. Been looking forward to this for a (long) while too... By all accounts it's quite a rollercoaster of a film. Youth also uses a couple of pedals I've built in his live rig
This is the Madbean Afterlife Compressor with the 'Ghost Note' sensitivity change mod which basically adds a threashold control. I've put it in an old enclosure I had lying around - I'll get a new one in my next order. I think it's really good with guitar - I haven't tried it with bass as both my bass amps are u/s at the mo'. I put an ultra-bright blue LED in - that may have been a mistake as I can still 'see' it each time I blink!!
I've built one of those before, put it in a 1590A enclosure - fantastic little compressor on bass. Try a higher value resistor, say 15k to dim down the brightness of that migraine inducing blue LED. Also, I rub those blue LEDs with a bit of fine sandpaper, to take the sheen off - gives effect of diffused LED. Much kinder on the eyes
6.
£100, not good timing as I'm buying another bass and collect tomorrow It feels very gigable
I had a Maya precision copy, it was not a bad bass actually. If you decide not to take it, please let me know as I need a beater P-Bass Cheers
7. I like Sadowsky flats. They're not high tension & not as slack as TIs. Tone wise have quite a bit of mid presence, not unlike Thomastiks. For a more traditional, thumpier tone try Laklands - lovely to play.
8. If you're OK with relic'ing, I'd say go with a 'Roadworn', if you can find a second-hand one even better. They have similarities with the Classic 50's, but a much nicer neck IMHO. Mine plays like a dream
9. Nickel rounds, about every six months when I feel the intonation or tension maybe going. Flats, until I break a string or fancy trying something different. About four years now on Sadowsky's, and still sounding good.
10. Bump..
11.
I use the Bernard Edwards "chucking" method to get more attack if need it, I hate it when I can hear nail noise if I'm playing normally so I religiously keep my nails short-ish... I'm pants with a pick so it's a happy compromise for me
Same here, I like a bit of 'chucking' too... though I keep the nail on my index finger just a couple of mm longer than the rest (which are short) because of this.
12.
I haven't read through this thread but I'm assuming the previous 41 posts is everyone saying their current rig is the best they have ever heard?
I guess so (for now)...
13. Think I've been the most happy with my current set up '84 Tokai 'Hardpuncher' / '05 Fender 'Roadworn' 50's Precision > '91 Gallien Krueger 400RB II > Barefaced Compact
14.
http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e9871df12 https://www.facebook...effects?fref=ts Anyone tried any ? I'm looking for a Demeter Compulator and this came up on my search.
Not tried his effects, as like some others on here I build my own too However, I'm quite familiar with this circuit. For what he is charging, I think the price is more than fair. On top of the cost of the parts (that vactrol can be a PITA to get hold of) also taking into account the time taken to build this pedal, makes it a good deal IMHO. If I was after a compulator, I would buy it.
15. 'Assault on Precinct 13' - John Carpenter 'Dirty Harry' - Lalo Schifrin 'Get Carter' - Roy Budd
16. Shouldn't be too difficult to clone!
17. Tim bought my Emminence driver. Prompt payment, good coms - top guy. Recommended.
18. I've built clone of the Zeibek Submarine which is based on Albert Kruezer's preamp - more stripped down version, very easy build. I like it, it's great little preamp. I use it a lot.
19. Hi, could you please advise if this is the newer version of this cab, also weight & dims? Thanks Nick
20. A Klon Centaur clone with a blend control...Good idea though.
21. January Bumpage, with price reduction & possible delivery options!
22. I use an old GK 400RB too, it's a fantastic little amp. One thing to know though, is that the 'Direct' out from these amps is unbuffered & comes straight off the power amp. When you're playing live, I'd imagine you're running that amp fairly hard, which results in that big GK signature growl, what I believe Robert Gallien refers to "hitting the rails" tone. Maybe in the studio, you're not running the amp as high as you would do when gigging? I'd go with Vail's suggestion, try disconnecting the speaker & run it pretty flat out, see if you're acheiving that tone you're after. Be wary though, these amps get hot!
23.
Well, I loved his playing as well... and now I doubt he'll be back after the 'compression' thread Another TOP pro chased away...
I hope not... would be nice if he stayed around.
