As per the title - this is my new baby - built from scratch and just finished. I've bolted parts together once or twice but this is the first one that actually started as just blocks of wood! Far from perfect but not half bad. It really sings 😀

Megachurch - two basses, drums and samples of televangelists instead of vocals. Couldn't figure out how to embed a video

Thanks all - I'm not sure why the 2x10 idea didn't occur to me, so I'm glad I asked. Ahh, the bewildering mind-****ery of impedance. Fun times ahead 😆 I'm not too concerned about the money side of things. I bought the 810 because I got a great deal on it, but admittedly was a little too inexperienced to realise quite how excessive it was. I'm enthused enough by the project to be ok with paying for bits of wood etc just for the fun of it. I could just look for a smaller cab of course, but then I'd still have this monolith taking up far too much space in my flat! This way I get to tinker with stuff and (god willing) sort out my cab requirements at the same time.

Hi there, I've been trying to sell my Hartke HyDrive 810 for ages, but it seems nobody wants something that big and I just can't get rid of it, which got me thinking... Could I, in theory, take it apart and repurpose 4 of the 8 speakers, and build myself a 4x10? Is it just a matter of figuring out wiring and the right size and then making a nice wooden box, or is it impossible for any number of reasons I haven't considered? Any input much appreciated!

Hartke Hydrive 810 cab - Price drop! £250!

Hartke Hydrive 810 cab for sale. 4ohms, 2000 watts power handling As you can see from the pics, it’s been around the block a bit but it’s still a beast of a cab. I can’t post it because it’s huge, so it’s collection only from Liverpool L17 I’m afraid. I love this thing but just don’t have the space for it and it rarely gets used these days.

I've used two different colours of Crimson Guitars "Stunning Stains". They're lovely looking and super easy to work with.
-
Where do you get them from? I'm always on the lookout for cheap p bodies to mess around with, but I rarely seem to find any - any leads would be much appreciated!

Thanks Mykesbass, that's really helpful!

I want to record an album of old blues songs to sell or give away at gigs. I can’t make head nor tail of the information I’m seeing online regarding where I’d stand copyright-wise. I’ve seen other blues acts selling CDs including mostly covers of old songs. Do people just do it and hope nobody catches them out or are people going through the whole process of looking into licensing songs etc? It’s mostly pre-1950 country blues type stuff. Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing?

Bass player wanted for new blues covers band - Newcastle
Rexel Matador replied to Rexel Matador's topic in Bassists Wanted
Cool, I'll message you back on fb. The band is brand new, so no outgoing bassist. I play bass in another band, but I'll be on guitar/vox in this one. -
We are the Harp-Sick Horde, a brand new electric blues band based in Newcastle. We play ragged 'n' dirty rocked-up covers of the early blues greats - Blind Boy Fuller, Reverend Gary Davis, Brownie McGhee, Floyd Council, John Lee Hooker, you get the idea... We currently consist of a singer/guitarist and a drummer, (bass player TBC) so need a harp player to round out the sound. It would add another dimension to the sound and the show, and take some pressure off our single guitarist (me) solo-wise. Check out the facebook page at www.facebook.com/theharpsickhorde where there are some videos to give you an idea of the sound we're going for. There's no harp on any of the demos - that's where you come in! And if you want more, there are a bunch of demos in the same style at https://www.youtube.com/user/rexelmatador/videos Any questions just ask. A gig on 29th September is already in the works, so let's get to it!

DI/preamp for solo blues? Advice needed
Rexel Matador replied to Rexel Matador's topic in Guitar Amplifiers
Which model Zoom did you go for?
I went for the G1on. Cheap and cheerful but adequate for my needs. I've played out with it a couple of times already and it does the job admirably. I only really use an amp sim and a touch of reverb. -
DI/preamp for solo blues? Advice needed
Rexel Matador replied to Rexel Matador's topic in Guitar Amplifiers
Thanks for the tips. I've gone with a zoom for now, just to get up and running, but that Laney contraption looks thoroughly badass and it will be first in line when I'm able to upgrade! -
Hi everyone, When I'm not playing bass, I play solo acoustic blues type stuff. I'm thinking of trying a hollow body electric to give it a little more grit, and just to change things up a bit. What kind of DI/preamp/pedal would I be able to carry around in my case so I can just rock up to an open mic night without an amp and get a reasonable sound plugging straight into the desk? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated :-) Thanks!

Thanks everyone, very helpful as ever 🙂

I’ve been thinking about trying to join a covers/function band. It would be nice to make a few extra quid playing music. Most ads I see state that your own transport is a must. I can’t drive and don’t really see me learning any time soon. So I’m just curious as to basschatters’ experience and/or opinions on this. Can it be done without a car? Well actually, I know it can, because my bass teacher does it, but I’m still curious as to what other people think.

I have two Ps and no Jazzes (or anything else). I'm 99% sure my next purchase will be another P. There's definitely no logic involved.

The VM Jaguar does. https://www.rimmersmusic.co.uk/vintage-modified-jaguar-bass-special-rosewood-fingerboard-3-color-sunburst-includes-gigbag-p33583?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=squier-vintage-modified-jaguar-bass-special-rosewood-fingerboard-3-032-8900-500&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=COKk2ubEvtICFQw4GwodYdgMrw

I've used them at rehearsals and I find them a bit lacklustre. Nice and portable though.
-
I'd be more than happy to do that for you, but wouldn't be able to do so until early next week. If the bass is still there and you haven't found anyone else by then, let me know.

Does anyone make P Bass pickup covers, thumb rests and knobs in bright/unusual colours? I'm thinking I'd quite like to take an all black P bass and give it a sort of Steve Vai vibe.
-
My bathroom scales tell me that my Matt Freeman weighs about 9lb. I'm surprised because it feels quite light to me. I guess my other P must be even heavier. Either way, it's an absurdly awesome bass. I'd read/heard all the praise out there and was still blown away when I finally got my hands on one. I paid £200 - you really can't go wrong!
