1. It's out for delivery today so should know soon enough.
2.
Surely its not as basic as that but it wouldn't surprise me. Dave
I use them at work a fair bit and on the odd occasion I have run out and bought at the supermarket I have not noticed them to be any better or worse, just shinier!
3. I could be wrong but I think the only difference is that they come in bulk packs in plain (ish) packaging as opposed to fancy single blister packs. They are cheaper as well.
4. Generally they are as the amp one will go first if needed. I guess it protects against a damaged lead touching something you don't want it to.
5. Does it have an internal fuse? Most amps do and they tend to be in the range of 1-5 amps (most are 1-3A it seems from when I wa searching when I had a problem with mine). If you can find the rating of that one put the next available size up in the main plug.
6. And bought an Ibanez TMB30. I fancy a play with a shortscale electric and every review I could find seemed to rate them very highly. Sadly they seem to be out of stock in every shop within 100miles of me so had to go mail order. Time will tell if the reviews are accurate.........
7. To be fair, most of the stuff worth listening to hasn't been big chart wise for 40 years if not more. Some stuff breaks through but if you used the charts as a way to hear original new music I think your hit rate would be fairly low.
8.
And it won't break the bank either, so there's really no reason not to try it. Could a worn out preamp tube cause such a lack of vitality in this particular circuit? I really don't have a clue...
I have a Marshall combo with the valve/ solid state mix and mine sounds superb, I know of another which sounded very flat compared to mine. It turned out it had a modern cheap valve in. The owner bought a NOS valve from the 70s and it sounded much much better. I don't know the ins and outs of exactly how the elastic trickery works but it was obvious to anyone how much difference the quality of the valve made.
9. That is truly a work of art, utterly gorgeous.
10.
Ha ha, good man Mark, many thanks. This could go on and on! I've had a couple of PMs from folks saying they'd like to have it as a raffle prize at upcoming bashes, but it worries me that on that basis it could end up only pulling in a few quid, and going to a BCer who'll probably end up selling it here again! To be honest I'd prefer it to go directly to a good cause rather than indirectly, I just like the idea of a needly kid somewhere having the bass, hope that makes sense? C
PM sent, I know somewhere it would have a good home if it fits your criteria.
11. I have been learning Johnny B Goode this last week, a bit odd as we mostly play 70-90s punk/ hard rock but we are dropping it in for a charity gig we are doing in three weeks (opening for a ladies choir average age 70+ - don't ask) as we think there may well be a few veterans in the crowd. It's not something I listened to personally and if I am honest I didn't like the idea at first when it was mentioned but I am really enjoying playing it. As said above, there is a lot more challenge to it than first impressions would suggest and getting it spot on takes more time than you would think.
12. Another vote for the Roland microcube series. I have one of the smallest ones on loan from a mate after I repaired it for him (batteries had leaked) and I am amazed by the sound of it for such a small package. I want one even though I have no real use for it.
13. Looks ok in the pictures, what do you think of it?
14. I bought a book from Mike, very good communication and was quick posting the book. Thanks mate.
15.
http://www.seetickets.com/event/thousand-yard-stare/100-club-london/1067649
Thanks mate :-)
16.
News just in... Bivouac, June 2nd, 100 Club London, supporting Thousand Yard Stare
Woo hoo! Where can I get tickets?
17. Gorgeous as always. I like the top combination as well.
18.
Playing in a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute, I like Hey Tonight.
We have started playing a heavy version of Dark Moon Rising which I love (but the bass.ine is a bit boring). But my favourite is Teenage kicks which is odd in a way as despite being a massive fan of punk stuff I was never that big a fan of the Undertones. It's just great to play full blast and we mix it up a bit as well.
19. I need to get a message to Gust0o but know he isn't on here much at the moment, it's nothing urgent but if anyone knows him and would be prepared to pass on a message I would be grateful. Thanks.
20. Thanks for Pm, replied to, will take it please. :-)
21. Not always, I have had speakers in old cars that have holes you could put your thumb in and it hasn't spread. Sound quality is the key issue though, give it a go there is no harm you can do.
22. If you buy it, it's yours so do what pleases you. If others don't like it, tough, they should have bought it first. I love old cars as well as Basses and enjoy seeing weather worn originals more than a fully restored car but am in the process of fully restoring a Capri - the condition was such that leaving as was just wasn't an option. Often the condition determines the best course of action.

Acoustic Bass

Mine has a great tone but the volume can't compete with acoustic guitars. It's ok through an amp obviously but for purely acoustic use it does disappear a bit. Mine is an oddity made or branded 'Rusty Axe'. I tried a couple of Ibanez ones and they were nice but out of my price range. Not sure what they fetch second hand.
