    Gibson ES-355

Our lead guitarist has one, it was his divorce present to himself. It is a thing of sheer and utter beauty and sounds divine. No idea what he paid for it but he has it a while now.
  2. Middle of a Patti Smith binge, has to be done once in a while.
  3. And me, a combination of compact and midget with a decent amp to drive them will live with any setup I have been near and then some. For anything more it would be DI’ed anyway.
  4. Or perhaps it’s the better way and all us right handed players are at a disadvantage? After all, why does it have to be one way? And if you think about it, when playing normal right handed mode it’s the left hand that has a more complex job to do which is counter intuitive to me as a right hander. If you think of the precursors string instrument wise (assuming double bass played with bow) the right hand had a far finer set of movements to perfect. But short of buying one of each and exactly matching practice from the start to see which feels easier I am not sure how you would prove this one way or another.
  5. I have exactly this but on only one bass so pretty sure it’s not technique. I have tried all sorts but to no avail so far. It’s a pain as it’s a great bass in every other way but it’s just dead in that one spot to the point that if I play in rehearsal with it, it sounds like I have completely missed the note.
  6. I have a Roksak one that is decent quality, with neck support and was around the £40 mark iirc.
  7. Only one place. Great venue with good set up but the owner insists on doing the sound check himself and then sets your levels for you. Nothing that unusual as many places have a sound guy. Except this guy can’t get a decent sound for us for love nor money. He also won’t listen to what we know will make a difference. I know other bands who now leave it well alone for the same reason. I have been there as a punter a few times and some people seem to get a good sound and other bands I know to be good sound very poor, so not sure if it’s just luck or whether some bands are just more forceful than others.
  8. Direct through his website? Or via his YouTube channel perhaps?
  9. I have been disappointed with the TC BH250 heads I have tried. The sound seems a little ‘thin’ to me. No idea why as I am big fan of Tc stuff and have a few of their pedals. The 250 just didn’t do it for me.
  10. Thanks! I bought a special 20 to start with but am now awaiting a Thunderbird rocket in low C (bass player influence showing through). I have been learning a few songs for our new set so haven’t had much time for it in the last week or so but getting the handpg of single notes and bending. Learning the solo for long train running at the mo.
  11. I have a full set of plans and instructions to build an Eagle 1 hovercraft from ply and fibreglass. Engine options include a lot of single cylinder ones and even a 2 cv. I made one myself about 15 years back and they comfortably take 2 but are more fun with one. Easy build for anyone with decent DIY skills. Free to collect or cover post and they are yours.
  12. Cheese and pineapples have fallen in popularity?
  13. Beyond 6 feet it doesn’t make much difference............
  14. Looking at it from the other side slightly, it’s always easy to see your own view as the one that makes sense and feel that your thoughts were the ones that everyone shares. It could be that the others in the band are happy with not gigging and thought this was the status quo. And as the band has not gigged in twenty years it’s probably reasonable to assume that all parties have gone along with this to at least some degree. The chances of getting a few people together who all have the same ideals and work ethic are pretty slim so any group of friends is likely to have different desires. It may be that the guitarist has terrible nerves and just can’t cope with gigging. Our band is four workmates, two of us would be happy gigging every week, the other two probably every couple of months. So we compromise and play roughly once a month. It works for all of us. There have been times when I have been frustrated but it has to work for everyone or it doesn’t work at all.
  15. Pearl Jam Ten as well, nothing else comes close for me,
  16. Depends when you go, I thought that before we did our first, we will be on our third this year and another booked for next year. In the summer holidays the average age is 30s-40s with kids on the ones we have been on. There are some older people but a lot of them are part of larger family groups. I would imagine ones in May and October are more like what you suggest though.
  17. Get it back to GK, you have consumer rights under EU law that extend beyond the 12 months most suppliers would lead you to believe. I would imagine with a little arm twisting they will sort it.
  18. I sit a midget sideways on top of my compact, looks cool.
  19. This one keeps popping up on Facebook http://www.tvsck.com/ Usual stupidly cheap prices.
  20. I have a Precision set up BEAD and it’s the worst of the lot. Luckily I only use it for a couple of songs so easily left out.
  21. Not sure myself, but nice to see something different anyway.
  22. What I have found is that a very slight amount of fret buzz on the Thunderbird at home equates to perfect in a hot and sweaty pub, of course if any on the upcoming ones turn out to be air conditioned I could be stuffed! I have been amazed how much difference there has been and am pleased to see it’s not just me.
  23. I love my 1000w Orange TB, I tried a few and it was the one for me. If you like it then keep an eye out for one and try a few others if you can. Nothing else I tried mixed the clean sound I wanted with the perfect growl the TB gives. I did change the valves for AT7s just to tweak the sound a little to suit my taste even better.
  24. I could pick loads (though not Nevermind for me, still love it) but two,of my favourites in my early teens were pyromania and hysteria, boy do they sound poor now but could just be my taste moving on. Stanley road seemed to be a return to a bit of post Jam form but feels very lightweight now (Did I really buy it?) and any Iron Maiden post Paul Dianno, Brucey just hasn’t got it for me.
