  1. I have never bought a £10 set but at £2 a time I can’t imagine they could be much good. I have sets of Hipshots and grovers on some of my Basses and they are much nicer in feel than the ‘budget’ ones on other Basses I have. They also stay in tune much better in my limited experience.
  2. I have a bass at work, I practice most lunchtimes and we rehearse after work (all our band work there)
  3. All my kit goes with me as and when needed. But I don’t have a really nice expensive mint bass so a ding or two doesn’t worry me. The Gibson is well loved already so another mark won’t be the end of the world.
  4. Hopefully they will be oblivious and get nicked, but odds are it will get dumped at crack converters for £50and they will disappear or they will dump it like you suggest, hopefully the former as it least that way he will get it back.
  5. The way I got it to work was to practice without using my first finger so just index and ring, then added the first finger back in once I was happy with it. But I switch from one to two to three fingers depending on what works best, I don’t even think about anymore, it just happens. Edit: and I am pretty crap anyway so doesn’t make much difference!
  6. Opposite for me, three finger fun for speed.
  7. I had similar recently but got a message to say they had attempted delivery but they had not left a card (still think they had ticked a box on the computer and been nowhere near my house) so went down with enough ID to get a mortgage and a date with the queen, nope not good enough. But they would deliver to ANY address I chose the next day. Where in the name of all that’s Holy does that make sense. I did ask if iI t was possible to deliver it to my car in the car park in the next ten minutes but that was met with stony silence.
  8. Do you know what you want? With the OTB the AX7s are quite aggressive to switching to AT7s gives more clean headroom while retaining the option of good old valve fuzz. If you have a clear objective then speaking to someone like Watford valves should be useful.
  9. Jeez I hope not, my Dad liked Jennifer Rush and Dana!
  10. Roger is a great front man, but an utter berk who talks a load of rubbish on many subjects. Best just to ignore what he says and listen to the music.
  11. This is an amazing resource for different set ups- http://www.ak-line.com/medium/Bassschaltungen.pdf There are all sorts of options/ standard wiring diagrams in there. It’s worth taking the time to look through and there is a translation section at the end (but it’s mostly obvious)
  12. Barefaced midget and super compact for me, midget or super compact for small/ medium gigs, both for bigger places (or just for the hell of it). Attached to my TB1000 it’s never been over a third way up on both input and gain.
  13. Arthritis has many forms, each has its own particular joints it affects, it’s often in no way related to the persons usage of those joints. It is one of the way Rheumatologists determine which exact form you have. My form attacks almost all joints but particularly the second joints of the fingers and toes and the hips and shoulders. Others have similar seemingly unrelated groups of joints.
  14. And forgot to say, look at the arthritis research campaign website, loads of great info and positive stories to show it can be tamed if not quite beaten just yet.
  15. I have suffered an aggressive form of arthritis for the last fifteen years. The worst bit is the early stages where you struggle to get diagnosed and find meds that will help you. After that it can be controlled to a large extent. It’s not easy, but it can be limited and suppressed. At first I couldnt see how how I could still be working five years down the line (there were days when 100 yards took me fifteen minutes) but fifteen years on I play every day, I do an active job and last month completed a twenty mile running challenge (not all in one go) so it can get better as well as worse. The best bit of advice I was given is that when it hurts most is when it needs to be moved most. It’s completely counter intuitive as the pain makes you want to rest but that can allow further damage which then limits movement later. I don’t mean heavy lifting or serious exercise but enough to keep the full range of movement. I actually took up playing the bass in part as to cover some of my daily exercises. If you need any info or I can be of help in any way give me a shout/ PM and good luck and don’t despair!
  16. Alive by Pearl Jam, one of my favourite songs to listen to ot play.
  17. No idea what the bass was - no markings, looked like an old Yam, no pedals at all. They are on Facebook, not checked out the clips though but not from the festival.
  18. Had an interesting day yesterday at the Greenman festival in Cornwall. Great band called Rootzmill on (ska and reggae), the bass players tone was amazing, best I have heard in years - including some BIG bands. I had a chat after the set, he uses a Yamaha amp (never seen that model before) and a very well used Marshall amp. He was also DIed out to the PA which was noth8ng special bit the sound was amazing. He was a great player which I am sure is a large part of it but I would kill for the tone.
  19. Lots of threads on here about compressors so worth a search, I use a Spectracomp, I play finger style in a hard rock/ indie/ punk covers band.
  20. And me, love mine and a very easy one hand lift. I dont know anyone who has seen them who isn’t impressed by the sound and amazed by the lack of weight.
  21. I would, we aren’t original in any way but are a group of mates who always have a laugh. Our gigs are energetic and we have a great time every time. But I am happy to go to lots of ‘pub band’ gigs as I live the combination of love music and a pint.
