  1. I thought he was blue, stop calling him Shirley.........
  2. We have done a few, good ones are a right laugh, bad ones see you play while the other bands on look on trying to pick faults with what you are doing. My favourite is admittedly run by a mate, but that aside, it really is just a turn up and play and whether you have been once or a hundred times people are supportive and friendly. In one night we have had some pretty heavy stuff and five minutes later an elderly regular doing Sinatra. It’s a broad church when done well.
  3. Fantastic mate, thanks for asking. Got a busy period (for us) of four in five weeks so good to get the first one out the way we’ll. lots of new and reworked stuff and all went well. we also finally decided on the new PA and monitors we are buying so this project will be on hold until next pay day due to the outgoings for that. At £40 delivered it alsmost seems rude not to have a bash with the one above. So now thinking the T-bird two won’t be a T- bird at all and that may end up being build 3. I have a few weeks to decide. @Andyjr1515 thanks for the heads up on the veneering. It sounds like this may not be the best one to do that on. Now wondering about doing something like a Wenge centre piece or maybe just a obscenely bright colour in true 80s style. Too many choices for someone so weak willed.
  4. I wouldn’t be too worried on the pickup holes, unless they were overly big as I could always enlarge them. I was budgeting around £50-60 for timber this time so it would be a cheap starter. Wondering whether to use one to have a play with veneering on. @Andyjr1515 or anyone other veneer experts, once the Veneer is on can you rout at the edges without it breaking up? Shame I couldn’t have made it to the midlands bash to see it done for real.
  5. Now that is a curve ball as our American neighbours would say! Probably as cheap as buying a piece of timber and with a load of the work already done. Hmmmmm, what to do............
  6. Love the body but the neck is too much for me. Also why no pics of the head on such a pricey item?
  7. I have been playing 18 months, first gig was 15 months ago. We played a works Christmas doo. We went down so well they were desperate for us to play more but we didn’t have anything else so just played half the set again and they were bouncing the whole way through. It was a hell of a lot of fun and got me hooked. Since then it’s been roughly one a month which suits me, including a repeat booking for our first gig which went down just as well (booked again as as well). A few minor pink torpedo ups from me in the first gig but nothing major and no one noticed so all was good. I was playing an Epiphone EB3 I briefly owned, sounded great but neck dive was terrible.
  8. I make the odd minor here and there. At the last gig I slid too far during Alive by Pearl Jam and I noticed it straight away as did the rest of the band, the annoying part is that I NEVER mess it up in rehearsals and the rhythm guitarist never gets his bit right but was perfect that time. So the one time we could have been spot on I ballsed it up. We support each other well and if someone makes a mess up it only leads to friendly banter.
  9. Sadly only viewing so far, been six times in the last five years, I love caves and mines, and I love music so it seems a good combination! Next one should be the Pink Floyd tribute in June, just waiting on friends to confirm.
  10. Carnglaze caverns are amazing as a venue, we try to get down there at least once a year.
  11. So having set out to make a lightweight headless T bird, I ended up making a standard weight standard head T bird but loved doing it and have a bass I play every day. As always you learn so much on the first one and straight away I want to do another and correct those issues. The main one being weight. So this one WILL be lightweight. so I have decided on a few options, not sure which to go for so opinions gratefully received. Option 1- light wood, not sure what to go for here. Any suggestions on places that supply decent suitable timber at sensible money would be fantastic. Option 2 - semi hollow, never seen a semi hollow T bird and have no experience whatsoever of them (never even played one) so that would be interesting. Does the internal shape affect the sound? Option 3 - like Option 2 but with a lightweight filler wood like balsa or even pine. Option 4 - medium weight wood with serious copit outs on the rear -least favoured option at mo.
  12. Excellent work and very fast! Puts some of us to shame.
  13. Can’t see it now, says it’s been removed :-)
  14. Give them a call and explain what has happened. Say you want a replacement not a repair - reasonable as it’s new. If they don’t play ball return under distance selling rules and look elsewhere.
  15. It can happen anywhere. Many years ago I was in the students union of a very well respected university which shall remain nameless, my mate and I were in the back end of the place with a band I can’t even remember the name of on (would have been either people at the uni or a local originals band). I looked over the see the lass next bay over slide her pants off and then sit on this guys lap. Much squirming went on as me and my mate tried to gradually move away without making it obvious we had clocked what was happening. They seemed completely indifferent to anything else going on. It was a small room and the band would have had a full view of the whole thing. One of the strangest things I have seen I at a gig.
  16. Played a social club last Christmas with unbelievably bright stage lights pointing at us the whole time while the rest of the room was in complete darkness. Killed the atmosphere for us as we struggled to see if the crowd were even still there let alone know if they were enjoying themselves! We asked if they could be turned down/ off for the second half and were told they were the only stage lights they have so presumably every band that plays there suffers the same. Stops you worrying about the audience though!
  17. Been waiting for this after the hint by Andy a couple of weeks back.
  18. Oh boy, how sad. Wonder what the neck dive is like?
  19. If it doesn’t feel right go with your instinct, worse case scenario is that you miss out on a sale. Hope it all works out.
  20. Yup, but I hesitated to use the term slap as obviously that has Mark Kingesque meaning, but it’s probably the best way to describe it. Maybe tap would be a good description.
  21. I suppose so, but would never consider myself anywhere near that level of expertise! I think he also plays it very lightly whereas mine is more of whack, hard to explain but it involves much more movement of the finger and I keep the finger almost straight. I also switch to playing with a single finger when I do it. The obvious song that jumps to mind is teenage kick where it gives a much brighter ‘twang’ than I usually want (play GibsonThunderbird with rotos, so pretty dark sound usually).
  22. I don’t use nails (barely have any), I stroke the strings through to full on pluck depending on the sound I want. I also play so as to almost tap the strings on the way through (quicker action as opposed to smooth pull through if that makes sense) for a punchier sound when I need it.
  23. It needs to be memorable and easy to search for, I love an Irish punk band called The touts, try finding tickets for them! It’s not the best thought out name in the world.
  24. Nothing bass wise particularly but the RD350LCs x6, KR1S, RG500, 3.0 Capri and Mk1 escort are a different matter.
  25. Yup, I would agree. Not a fan of the Vox ones at all. We are a right mixed bunch, lead has Vox, rhythm has bright orange Orange and I have the just perfect Barefaced cabs.
