Mine too, or was, and hopefully will be again when I work out why it’s continually ticking (I think a capacitor is on its way out)

Not sure about that but they are on Centurian way in Leicester now, always loads of the cars around there so think that’s where they are built and not just a HQ.

Fireman - this could be the start of something.. umm..

I drew out the locations for the neck, bridge and pick ups then used those to locate the template for the neck. I was tempted to use dowels but didn’t need them in the end. -
I thought Noble were based (and made) in Leicester? I used to drive past their factory.

Just wondering how many songs people can play at the drop of a hat. I appreciate some people on here are able to play from sheet music so the answer could be infinite. But I am thinking more of how many people could play instantly if asked without reference to music/ tabs or practice.

String life, the good, the bad and just plain ugly

That’s good to hear, I have a set ready to go on. Also looking at the D’addario range after hearing good things about them. -
String life, the good, the bad and just plain ugly

It’s not going to be scientifically accurate, and doesn’t need to be, but if everyone using string x says they are short lived and everyone says Y is long lived then it’s a pretty good indicator. -

String life seems to crop up on various topics here and there but no thread I can find dedicated to comparing string life. I use Roto66s 40-100s. They take about ten to twenty minutes to bed in, but are generally dead within a couple of weeks. I do play a fair bit but that is still only 15-20 hours max. I have also used a load of others but the only ones that stand out were Dean Markley Stainless which were still very bright after six months.

I understand it can be very hard to get a good mix, but when one thing is so dominant to the point that you can hardly hear anything else (and this was stood about ten feet from the desk) then it’s a failure on the part of the person responsible OR a conscious choice that the sound is what they want (but surely not?). Why you wouldn’t just turn that down a little after a song or two is beyond me. I have had this at two gigs in the last year and it has completely spoiled both of them, othe were in venues I have been to before and experienced excellent sound in so it can’t all be the venue.

Sweet child o mine -from nothing to done in two days, any ideas?
T-Bay replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
The scary part was the time, in the end it turned out that I had a bit over an hour in total and it wasn’t played in front of a couple of hundred people. Without going into the details, it meant a lot to the guy so I didn’t want to mess it up. Normally I get a set of tabs up and listen to the song a few times and note which bits are ok and change the bits that aren’t right then play it and twiddle it from there. I just didn’t have the time to do that this time hence the thread. Turns out he had heard me noodling the intro as he was helping us set up for a previous gig so thought I knew it. It was nice to be able to help out. -

Thanks to everyone who was helpful, with minimum time it was no trouble in the end. The key bits were fine, the twiddles I just made up as I went along and it went great. Without going into detail it was a big thing for my mate and he was more than pleased. So collective thanks to Basschat for making someone’s night. Thanks all. -
I have a cheap Behringer bought after a review on here. It seems to be a 58 clone and seems to very good. The only other Behringer stuff I have had experience of (pedal and amp) were truly awful so this was/ is a pleasant surprise. It is great for my level of BV.

Better than either of those to me, it’s an interesting shape but not so far out that it would be awkward to play. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this.

This^^^^ The recent Feeder gig I mentioned was a perfect example of this. The support act (sweet little machine - superb by the way) were clear as anything. This makes it even more puzzling to me as you would expect them to have had about two minutes of the ‘engineers’ time, whereas the main band get every knob twiddled to their liking. The bass player may as well not have turned up, I did not hear a single clear note in the whole set. Very frustrating.

I bought a pedal from Crawford, exactly as described and great communication. A pleasure to deal with, buy with confidence.

The pick guard is in my hands at last! It was placed in vat one of my etching mix which takes off an even layer of material from everywhere that isn’t painted. The red colour is just nail varnish (resistant to all the chemicals used but easy to remove with acetone after). After two hours in the mix it was ready for stage two, buuuuuuutttt........ the ally I used must have been rolled and of poor quality as the first process has removed the even layer but left a finish or beautiful streaks/ lines. The plan was to then add other chemicals which etch in a much more random way (and can be seeded to create low spots where required) but I decided I liked it so much I didn’t bother doing the second stage. I have put a coat of lacquer on the protect it and then promptly forgot to take a pic of the finished item! The panic is our band name in case anyone is wondering.

Bob Mould, the most amazing and underrated musician of our time.

No, Birmingham, was Brixton bad as well?
-
They are an old set of roto 66s so a bit dead tbh, they are a 40-100 set.

Had similar at a recent feeder gig, it was terrible. The guitars could only be heard on the sections where the drummer stopped. Otherwise it was just boom boom boom for two hours.

Yup, the others cover it in their other bands, just me it’s new for so not concerned on vocals etc. Not got a lot of time to devote to it hence the question but seems I must have looked at the most complex version of the song going -
Just had a first proper play with and am ‘chuffed to bits’ as some would say. It still needs a tiny bit of adjustment but only to perfect string height relative to each other and no more than 0.8mm anywhere. It sounds fantastic. I love the T bird sound so that’s no surprise but you only know for sure once you play it. I am playing a short set at the weekend but next proper gig is the 18th and will take it for that for sure. Weight wise it’s not as bad as I first thought, very similar to the genuine Gibson.
