  1. True, but when every single expert says the same thing, then there is a very good chance there is a reason for that.
  2. What sort of music do you play? It might help narrow the options a bit.
  3. I love my spectracomp, I use it as it adds a ‘fatness’ to the sound that I like. Would anyone else notice? The drummer would IF he could hear it but I doubt very much that anyone else would. But the overall sound is a collective of several small adjustments you make, tone controls, pedals, amp settings. If you dialled them all to the other end then I think people would notice. So it’s worth having every little bit how you want it.
  4. Yup, we used to do satisfaction which I found a doddle, we now have sympathy for the devil on our ‘to learn’ list. On paper it’s an easy one but getting the sound just right is a pig and half.
  5. Hi Rich, I am not far from you in Tamworth. I have been playing about 18months, in a band and gigging for most of it which is a real laugh.
  6. not just me who has done this then!
  7. You value the opinion of someone close far more than some random strangers. I will blast out backing vocals to a pub full of people but still wary of fully going for it in the house. Similarly I want to do some lead vocals and have been practicing a couple of songs hard to keep the quality whilst playing and making good progress. May take a couple of beers to step up to singing the lead at a gig though.
  8. I am pretty handy and do most stuff myself and to be honest this one isn’t worth enough to spend a lot on. It’s been fine since, just wonder8mg what may have the caused the issues on that one occasion, just a it odd.
  9. +1 I have a TMB30 and love it, would be nice to have a few more options though.
  10. Do you know anyone who could offer any advice? I am lucky to know a music therapist who was happy to give me some help. Within a couple of hours I went from being very nervous and feeling my vocals were terrible (they weren’t but weren’t brilliant either) to a point where I am practising to do lead on a couple of songs. Partly it’s confidence but simple technique and tricks help. I bet there are loads on YouTube. My top tip is to open your mouth wide, it’s amazing how much extra volume and clarity you get for no extra effort.
  11. We find the volume sliders on the PA work brilliantly as talent filters for BV
  12. At the lower price end there is the Orange Terror 1000, I have just got one to go alongside a TE I have and I am very impressed. It’s obscenely loud and the valve preamp gives some great tones.
  13. Thanks, as it’s from a combo it’s too wide for the standard ones sadly.
  14. Shame as they were fantastic when I contacted them after buying a bass from PMT (who were useless).
  15. Turned my TE GP11 head on tonight and got a ticking noise along with the ECI light flashing. So I switched it off, checked the plug and lead and turned back on, the clicking was double speed as was the flashing light. So switched off, got my little socket tester which showed everything to be ok. Tried it again and all was fine. I have also noticed odd periods of very low level white noise in recent weeks which comes and goes in a fairly regular pattern, then doesn’t happen at all at other times. Any suggestions folks?
  16. Yup, I have one as well that lives in the odds and ends box and it’s saved us twice, not me either time but once each for the guitarists.

    Sounds good to me!
  18. I know it’s only a few mms but Precision necks just feel plain wrong to me. I am presently looking for a deluxe with the jazz width this neck because of this.

The WB-100 had me dribbling if I am honest, sadly beyond my present budget but it looked and sounded fantastic from the clips he put up. I have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to Ashdown, we have a couple of their higher end combos at work and I just can’t get them to sound exactly how I want, which is a bit odd as I am a great TE fan. Perhaps they have just been messed with once too often. They aren’t bad by any stretch but just don’t make me want to run out and buy one. As for the marmite orange, they just do their thing, the sound fits what I need perfectly but they won’t be for everyone by any stretch. It does do a surprisingly good clean sound though, which coupled with a pair of BF cabs makes for the most transparent bass sound I have come across personally, but that’s not what they (or this thread) is about andmits the growl that really makes it come alive. The 1000w version Imhave is obscenely loud and I can’t imagine where you would use that power to be honest. Anywhere big enough to need it would surely see you DI through a desk but there you go. If you are ever in the midlands you are more than welcome to give it a try.
  20. It is a looker for sure and they get great reviews. I already have an Ibby fretless which sort of made my mind up but I may well search one out at some point. I have just received a big selection of plectrums courtesy of eBay and found a nice thick one that feels right, not sure I will use it that much, but I don’t see any practice as wasted so am happy to give it a go. I have also started a build on a DIY pedal so any spare mojomojo you have would,be most useful as I will need a case for it at some point
  21. Was that the one for sale on here? I had serious GAS for that but other priorities won out (the orange terror amp you love)

You don’t know what you are missing, to be fair they aren’t a massively flexible amp. They do their thing, to my mind they do it incredibly well, but it’s not a complete all rounder for sure. I have been really impressed by the valve preamp though, but I have a soft spot for valves.
