  2. Now that really isn’t fair, it was gorgeous from the front but that rear shot takes it to a new level. I am on the lookout for one now but guessing they don’t come cheap.
  3. They don’t seem to pop up that often second hand and there is one on eBay at the moment for more than they are new at GaK so you wouldn’t lose much on it if you didn’t like it and moved it on.
  4. Distance perhaps? Cumbria to Essex is a fair old trek.
  5. Very good point, I wasnt thinking of making them loose but just a downtune sort or thing. It was just a thought as I was told by a very good luthier that he always backs off the strings a bit when he sends a bass and that a lot come from the manufacturer like that (not had enough new ones to know if that’s true or not). But I am happy to bow to the significant collective knowledge that is Basschat.
  6. I know you mentioned you don’t want multiple basses but as it’s for different bands would it really be such a hardship? Then you could string one BEAD and be done with it. I appreciate it could be a pain if there’s lots of overlap with songs but just a thought.
  7. The obvious one is them being a room with as stable a temperature as possible and never above a radiator (I say obvious, but I have been to the house of a very respected local bass player who had two hanging over a radiator as ‘it was the only space left’ so just goes to show). it may also be worth backing the string tension off a little.
  8. Welcome. What cruise lines do you work on?
  9. Welcome! Any links to any of your stuff?
  10. Do you enjoy it when you play? If you do you are good enough. It’s a good thing to want to improve but it is also important to enjoy what you do. I have an almost religious practice regime of 15 mins warm up (noodling fun bits), 15 mins technique (various online apps and YouTube) and at least 30 mins of going over our sets. I do that every day and it has made a massive difference to me.
  11. That is gorgeous, I wouldn’t have thought it but the light wood really suits it.
  12. There are a couple I have struggled with purely down to the speed they are, I try to learn both the original and a simplified version I know 100%. I can do. Then which I use comes down to how I get on with the quick one. I have even started a song with the quick version and then swapped to the simpler one when my fingers start to cramp and then switch back again. By doing it that way I have total confidence I can nail the song one way or another andcan just mix and match as I feel at the time.
  13. My wife got me an Ibanez fretless for Christmas, I can’t fault it and am amazed by the quality for the money.
  14. I have a great Aria ATB with one of the best necks I have played. Only payed £80 for it last year. It’s my backup bass for gigs and has never let me down.
  15. Very true, We filmed our last gig and on one (and only one thankfully) song I messed up my finger position and played a bum note that when I played the footage back stood out to me horrendously, bit looking at the audience, did they notice? Nope, well not in any way you can tell. When our lead guitarist/ vocalist just missed a high note and got a bit crackly for a split second (recovering from throat infection) it’s obvious people noticed it. Not sure if this is a good thing or not though.
  16. I presume the B3 is like that as it allows multiple patches/ effects and we are programmed in the west to read left to right. Only a guess though....
  17. I dont think the ownership is relevant personally, it’s where they are made that counts. Reliability neither, it’s about the pinnacle of engineering. A Micra will do more miles than an F1 McLaren before it breaks but you wouldn’t count the Micra as a flagship UK made car over something more exotic Morgan, hmmmm, old cars for old people imho, more of a shroud than a flag. I have several classic bikes and cars and LOVE old technology, but I like it because it was evocative of an era and the best AT THE TIME. I wouldn’t want an Indian Enfield for the same reason I wouldn’t want a Morgan. Fireblade or AJS7R, but not a Harley for the same reason.
  18. Surely flagship,is quality not quantity. You wouldn’t say Toyota or Nissan were flagship manufacturers, whereas Aston Martin or RR would spring to mind for that crown.
  19. And I still use mine for a Gibson Thunderbird, best one I have come across for it.
  20. Very odd, mine was out of warranty and they replaced it anyway, no questions asked. I sent pics to confirm the model and it arrived two days later. The guy I spoke to was Robin Croker and he could not have been more helpful.
  21. This^^^^^ Muse is the evidence of this for me, the tone that some people love really really grates on me and it’s an instant reach for the off button.
  22. I am still buzzing from a comment made by our lead guitarist last night, we were working through some stuff and I asked his opinion on one little transition piece, his reply was ‘just go with what sounds best to you, it’s always spot on when you do’. I have been playing 18months and while I work very hard at it I am far from the level he is at. He has been playing thirty years and is a genuinely superb musician (and doesn’t realise just how good he is). This was on top of a comment after our last gig when he said anyone listening would think I have been playing 18 years not 18 months. So decent guitarists do exist. We have two, so I should keep quite I guess as it appears they are quite rare!
  23. I used to fence at Uni (with an Epee, not selling stolen stuff) and tried a few types. The best ones were the sort with short elasticated sections. The full elastic ones always put too much pressure on and the non elastic ones didn’t work well.
