  1. Hard to say. Another aspect which is hard to quantify is how the bass makes you feel and how that is reflected in how you play it. My Gibson Thunderbird and Aria Pro are my ‘go to’ basses and I feel they play better, but is that true or is it just that I have more confidence in them so I play better? If you have a hankering for an old bass would you then play with more confidence as you ‘feel’ it has something extra? Almost impossible to answer though I think. Some aspects are much easier to quantify, the quality of the bridge, how even and well finished the frets are, size and shape of neck etc etc. Some will suit one or other players but things like a quality bridge which provides consistency will help all.
  2. I would buy a Victorian table because it will be made of better quality materials and built to last. An Ikea one will most likely be a load of junk that won’t last. Not sure the same is true with instruments. I would imagine a new Fender would last as well as an old one. I love old stuff as I feel it has ‘history’ but I appreciate it won’t be any better because of that. With a bass the sound is the first and primary consideration for me.
  3. You can change them as often as you want, what you can’t do is download/ save the existing ones FROM the amp/ pedal. If you are using one of the stock ones and know which it is then there is no problem. The problem comes when you have something you like but like to have a play to see if it could be improved but don’t know what it is.
  4. Fairly GAS free after buying a fair bit last year but idly looking for a precision with Jazz width neck. I won’t actively look but if anything comes up.
  5. No gig here as lead guitarist and singer is booked with his other (main) band, but having a few people round who can play so it’s curry then jam session. Looking forward to it.
  6. Massive fan, but last tour wasnt their best. So much quality, and a lot wider range than most people think. Wish still stands out as my favourite listen to when ‘slightly whizzed/ out of it’ album.
  7. I think a lot would like to see him get a free ticket to certain place in The Hague.
  8. We have two angles, one is a punk/ alternative set from late 70s to early 90s and the more generic ‘pub band’ mix which we usually punt as the best of rock and alternative music from the 60s to the naughties. But to be honest all the gigs we have got so far have either been by reputation, word of mouth or by actually talking to the landlord (we have a couple of example set lists we can show which helps). We haven’t done the wide spread approach yet as we aren’t playing that many gigs. If we do then a Facebook page will probably be the way forward.
  9. They do appear second hand biut they aren’t cheap, worth keeping an eye out on here, I found a pair in the classifieds.
  10. Yup, both my Gibson and the ones I was going to take pics of are without the scoops.
  11. I have a pair of Gibson ones sat ready for a project, I could get pics tomorrow if it’s helpful.
  12. Your position is different from a lot (most?) on here and if I were is your shoes then it would 100% be the case, for me it’s a wind down after work. I am lucky to play with three mates from work. After ten hours at work you would think the last thing any of us would want is a 2-3hr rehearsal but I find I go home feeling refreshed and positive. I am lucky to have fallen in with three great guys, our lead singer/ guitarist is superbly talented, the drummer is genuinely superb and the rhythm guitarist, whilst not the most organised or prepared, is a F’ing animal on stage. I just love it and wish I had got off my backside and done it properly thirty years when I first tried (for two weeks). But better late than never. And for me, hearing the experiences of professionals such as yourself Blue is always helpful and fascinating.
  13. I don’t care about money generally, I do care about having a good time. It may be alien to some people bit to me life is too short to play ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’. I have repeatedly refused promotion as I love what I do and it brings in enough for me to do the things I want to do and have the time to do them. It’s a high pressure job and the band is a group of lads (35-45) who work hard, rehearse hard and play, well medium these days. 15 months ago I had just started playing, now we have two setlists covering 40 songs and paying gigs booked. Happy days!
  14. I had an Omen 4, build quality was superb and far better than certain well known makes for the money.
  15. But how can you be sure? And there in lies the problem, or rather it doesn’t but some people seem determined to prove there is a significant problem. And the only way to be 100% sure........ it’s ridiculous but there you go. I give up, so long and thanks for all the fish.
  16. The potential outcome of all this is a disastrous change or even closure of the for sale section on here. Will that make buying safer for people? No, the exact opposite in fact. And for what? I find it quite depressing.
  17. I think he is trying to point out that while they exist, it doesn’t present a problem on here.
  18. I don’t, our lead guitarist does when he hosts an open mic night, he has a book with a few hundred songs in so he can cover most things people may ask for which seems sensible.
  19. Don’t worry, if it’s Hermes no one will get it.
  20. My mate was in a Beatles tribute band, he was George though. Still funny watching him don a shaggy wig and speak with a scouse accent. They were bloody good though.
  21. Not raining here, sleeting a bit though.
  22. Even with the app up and running you can’t get settings off the amp. It’s a one way process which is the problem. There is no way, apart from your own memory, of knowing what is on the amp/ pedal.
  23. It is the one frustrating thing about it, similarly there is no way to download or store your present set up on the pedal. I have sent a few emails to the technical department and get the impression others have as well so hopefully it will be upgraded at some point.
