  1. Age 45 (I had been playing just over two months at that point), a works Christmas bash, played a Epiphone EB3 through a Marshall bass combo. Mixed set, first half was 70s and 80s punk/ alternative, second half was more general rock covers, then we repeated the first half as it was just buzzing and the people running it asked if we had anymore. Booked again this year, can’t wait. My playing has come on a lot in the last year (about 450 hours of practice certainly helps).
  2. Bit of a pattern appearing here.......
  3. Companies exist to make money, some people are swayed by ‘celebrity’ endorsement, the rest is simple economics as to what why and where it will occur. Now if I could get a Jack Bruce EB that automatically made me sound like him I would be interested.
  4. I have just had a couple of hours banging through some Christmas songs for a gig in a couple of weeks. Half on the Thunderbird and half on the short scale. I am no expert player by any definition of the word but I find I can swap between the two with no problem at all. It’s only a small difference really.
  5. That’s the odd thing, how could anyone stand there and go “yup that’s bang on”. It has to be a different person for each one, either that or atbthe drive in have very very seriously peed him off somehow. At the very least you would expect the venues technicians to have a word. I see they are doing a solo tour now, not one I will be buying tickets for.
  6. +1 I love mine, it is always on. Very simple to use and get a decent level with.
  7. Similar here, a very talented guy and I hope he wins.
  8. Nice Gretsch up for sale on here at the moment (I have no connection to seller but looks nice in the pics)
  9. I have an Ibanez Talman that I bought new. I rarely use it which is stupid really as it’s cracking Bass and plays really nicely. They cost buttons (I think was around £160 or so new!). I have thought of selling it on a couple of times but never quite manage to let it go as it owes me so little.
  10. All 4’s, I had a brief fling with a 5 string but it didn’t grab me.
  11. Same here and same list but I would have to add the sex pistols, the cure, the cult and Pearl jam, plus a lesser known band called Paw -I listened to Dragline every day for over a year.
  12. Well it obviously wasn’t a bad night them as At the drive in were truly awful last night. Sad as I have seen them once before and were good. The sound was unbelievably muddy, vocals also inaudible and overall just terrible. I can only assume that what they were hearing was very different to what we were hearing or they would have packed up and gone home. BUT Black Honey were really good and Royal Blood were right on the money. I think is the time to see them -right at the peak of what they are doing, it’s going to be hard to do their next album I think. With a few dates left I would get to see them if you have a chance.
  13. A bit far for me to come and have a look, glwts
  14. Whereabouts are you?
  15. Go on ACS or Minerva websites and type in your postcode. I went for Minerva as there was a location close to me, for ACS I would have had to travel a fair distance but that will obviously just be luck where you live. Process was simple -appointment to have casts made, a gel like putty squeezed into the ear. Then a fitment one a couple of weeks later.
  16. I have just had some Minerva ones made up and would agree with the above. A small investment really.
  17. Glad I’m not the only one! There are options as above but I have also seen a few bitsas on sale that I have been tempted with that fitnthe bill, so keep an eye on the for sale section on here.
  18. Me neither, Schaller seem to do some interesting takes on the mechanism but but the heads are the same.
  19. Just having a nose around at machine heads. 99.9%seem to be either cloverleaf or Grover type and the rest cheap Chinese types (along with the cheap chines copies of the other two types obviously).. Surely there must be loads and loads of different designs bit I can’t seem to find them.
  20. Nope, but do have an acoustic bass next to the bed in case I need to quickly go through something I am thinking about!
  21. What a beaut, if it was a four string I would have it from you. GLWTS
  22. Already got a TC spectracomp running there, to be fair I have it set pretty low but it’s the tone that changes not the volume.
  23. I really like it but the finish is the only thing that has stopped me buying one. I don’t need one somit has to justify itself in some way and the sunburst colours don’t do it for me and the plain says £100 Ibanez more than £700 Gibson.
  24. Why not? If there are a thousand like it someone must like the shape? That said I love my Thunderbird and the fact it isn’t a generic bass shape is one of its most appealing features so I do wish they would do something more original as well as a ‘safe’ option,
  25. It does sound very good, exactly what I have been after in fact. I will keep an eye out for one second hand. I have also been wondering about a Hot Wax but sadly they didn’t have one to try when I went to PMT in Brum. The mojomojo is the third overdrive/ distortion pedal I have tried. I know exactly the sound I am after, it’s just finding it that’s a problem!
