  1. Nope, but do have an acoustic bass next to the bed in case I need to quickly go through something I am thinking about!
  2. What a beaut, if it was a four string I would have it from you. GLWTS
  3. Already got a TC spectracomp running there, to be fair I have it set pretty low but it’s the tone that changes not the volume.
  4. I really like it but the finish is the only thing that has stopped me buying one. I don’t need one somit has to justify itself in some way and the sunburst colours don’t do it for me and the plain says £100 Ibanez more than £700 Gibson.
  5. Why not? If there are a thousand like it someone must like the shape? That said I love my Thunderbird and the fact it isn’t a generic bass shape is one of its most appealing features so I do wish they would do something more original as well as a ‘safe’ option,
  6. It does sound very good, exactly what I have been after in fact. I will keep an eye out for one second hand. I have also been wondering about a Hot Wax but sadly they didn’t have one to try when I went to PMT in Brum. The mojomojo is the third overdrive/ distortion pedal I have tried. I know exactly the sound I am after, it’s just finding it that’s a problem!
  7. I am lucky as our drummer is superb technically and a great bloke to boot. We do tend to speed up a fair bit by the end of the night but that suits me anyway. He also has an almost uncanny ability to improve with alcohol consumed to a point beyond which we haven’t been able to test him. He is certainly better at drumming than talking when he is well gone.
  8. The tone is fine when I dial it in, it is purely that lack of consistency across the strings that is the issue. It’s an odd one and one that I have never come across before with any pedal. What I really want is an effect that is almost transparent when played normally but gives a bit of growl when I dig in.
  9. And me, it’s a good looking thing to me
  10. I have tickets for Nottingham on Saturday, disappointing to hear about at the drive in as I saw them live a while back and they were very good. Hopefully it was just a bad sound night for them
  11. I bought a mojomojo based on recommendation from here and I am not feeling the love. In particular it seems overly aggressive on the low strings, so if I set a nice overdriven sound on the E string I seem to get nothing on the G, if I set a tone I like on the G I get more like full on distortion on the E. My search for the perfect overdrive continues.......
  12. I wonder with some if it’s an effect of the Gumtree knuckle dragging buyers. I recently sold a Yamaha bass for a truly bargainous price of £100, I put it up at £110 ovno making it obvious that I wanted £100..... or so I thought. I had quite a few idiots offering £40-60. Bear in mind it was the only one below £150 as it was. Eventually a bloke offered sensible money and picked up the same day, it could not have gone to a better guy. But it makes me think that some stuff I see overpriced is maybe building in the idiot factor, I want £100so put it up at £200 and when they offer half that you are there.

    New Site Features

Like everything new it takes a little while to get used to and get your preferences set right but it does seem to be a very worthwhile upgrade and genuinely better than the old software. Knowing how long such things take it’s a big thanks from me for all the hard work by everyone involved.
  14. I was put last night so didn’t have chance to do anything but not much is going to happen anyway until I can get down the woodyard bit will put a pic up of the assorted goodies if I get a chance tonight.
  15. Let’s face it, even the worst of us is 99.9%better than the average of the population and 100%better than someone who worries so much they don’t have a go.
  16. Could be 50p could be stupid money, someone has taken one hell of a punt.
  17. Did a trade, great communications, item posted as promis d and exactly as described. Perfect transaction. Thanks
  18. This ^^^^ it comes down to what falls to hand and seems right for the part you are playing.
  19. Ah poo, just unwrapped the neck and it’s amazing for an eBay special -how can they make them for that money? It needs one fret filing at one end but is otherwise very nice indeed. The problem is that it seems criminal to start chopping it about. sooooooooo do I stick with the headless idea or change and go for a Fender bird?
  20. Thanks guys, I was thinking more on whether to use biscuits or dowels. From what I have read either would be sufficient. A load of bits have arrived today so I can start fiddling about as soon as I get a second.
  21. Try and find some other people to play with, you will be amazed how fast you will come on once you start fitting in as part of the whole picture as it were. You will also find that some songs are stupidly simple for the bass and they can help with the basics such as consistency and finger strength. Most of all just have fun!
  22. It’s never too late, I started playing 13 months ago at 45, started gigging 11.5months ago! Loving it.
  23. So far I have sourced a neck, headless mechanism and a pair of Gibson pick ups. None have arrived yet but the postie will be busy over the next few days. I have also found a decent place localish to get a good bit of timber from but it will be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to visit due to work clashing with their opening hours. So I need to start researching threads on here to find the best way to join the two pieces together.
  24. Thankfully I am living proof that is not true in all cases. My father was a hopeless romantic and loved anything trashy -think Bonnie Tyler, Rene and Renata etc etc. I like a wide range of music but on the whole my tastes couldn’t be further from those if I tried. I distinctly remember hearing the sex pistols when I was 8 or 9 and thinking that it was amazing compared to the crap I heard at home.
  25. I had a play with one in my local music shop, I was very impressed with it and compared VERY favourably with my MiM Fender.
