It comes in a silver coloured metal flight case... You can probably imagine what that looks like right? Damn. Whats import on instruments from US? 30% like everything else?
People travel with instruments all the time though, if it's seen as his personal property then there is no issue, if it's leaving the UK after then it shouldn't be subject to UK tax anyway so it's not a fiddle.

If your mate is prepared to say it's his, the chances of being pulled on it are very slim, but that's not to say non existent. He on,y needs to 'own' it, they aren't going to ask him if he can play it. We brought back an old accordion for a friend from Cyprus, only for its sentimental value to them. Got a few funny looks at check in but nothing this end.

I have an aggressive form of arthritis and the pain in my hands can be pretty bad but the adrenaline of a gig means I never notice it at the time, can be crap after though. If it was me I would take painkillers (moderate amounts of alcohol also works well) and do it.
Most have become top heavy corporate monsters I won't support anymore.
Very true, but not the two I mentioned as far as I know, and that's still very different to being a negative influence on the world. -
And pics can be deceiving. One I bought looked ok in the pics but must have a couple of hundred small dings in total. The pics were taken of a black bass in a dark room, the seller also concentrated on a couple of marks which, along with the description, made it seems as though that was all there were. It sounds great though so I can forgive it, and I gig it so it will pick up more marks so it doesn't bother me but would annoy the hell, out of some people.
The International Red Cross, maybe..? Can't think of any more, though.
There must be loads, they just don't spring to mind easily. The RNLI and The Dogs trust are two that jump,to my mind but there must be loads, but I guess they are only 'local' as in the UK. -
Source, please.
Google 'history of Thomas Moore', sure that will bring it up. My source was Mr Jones the history teacher at Spondon school, but as he will now be in his 80s I doubt he would welcome people knocking on his door. -
Please enlighten me as to what act of despicable cruelty Thomas More was responsible for... apart from the fact I had to read "Utopia" at university?
I believe he was responsible for the torture and death of protestants, he was a fervent Catholic and was particularly active in the respression of Protestant literature. -
I don`t know the history of the confederate flag, but if it was around before the KKK etc decided to wave it, then keep using it. A bit like the Union Flag, or Cross of St George, right-wingers wave it, but then why wouldn`t they wave the flag of the country they claim to support? Anyone else wishing to use those flags can get deemed to be racist when their intentions may be patriotism, which is different.
Perhaps read the whole thread, it explains it origins and meanings on several occasions, or just google it. The people who designed it were as bad if not worse than the kkk. -
Not an EBS but I had an issue on an EhX pedal I bought, it was fine for a couple of weeks and then went 'noisy'. My local friendly repair guy sorted it for me - it was a dry joint that he assumed had been there since new, certainly no way the previous owner would have known about it. £30 later and it's perfect again. A quick search suggested it's not that uncommon with them, perhaps something similar with EBS?
That doesn't mean you haven't offended anyone though. Well overdue ditching this. Sounds like you have more than enough to create a great atmosphere.
That's a very good point, you also don't know how many people haven't gone to the gig and haven't booked you when they otherwise may have. -
The point I'm making is that prior to 2015 and the last few days it doesn't seem to have been a issue whatsoever to fly it. In the few articles I've read on the last few hours it seems only to have been a real issue (for the majority of people) in the US since 2015. The fact people in the Uk now know about it, I would suggest, is because it's been seen on mainstream media at Charlottesville. And there was an article in the Sun newspaper three days ago. Certainly I'd say the reason I know nothing about it is because I've been totally ignoring most of that story (and don't read The Sun) I wonder how many people replying on this thread knew about the connotations previous to this week, or before 2015?
It WAS an issue, it's just you didn't hear about because the people campaigning and protesting were poor black Americans who were very easily ignored by the media. It has never gone away, it has never ceased to be an issue, the racist killings have never ceased, its onlynthe media coverage that comes and goes. For many in the US it's an all day everyday issue. My brother lives in the states, we toured around a few years ago. One incident stands out in particular, we got lost and asked a black kid of about twelve for directions. My brother has been there so long he has a Boston accent. The poor kid absolutely froze and stood there sh*t scared. We spoke about this later to the family we were staying with and it turned out that it was because he had been approached by white people in a posh car - in his world he knew that if he said the wrong thing to the wrong person he could be beaten or worse. It was a small place we had been through so we went back and spoke to locals in the shop. As soon as they knew we were English the fear dissolved (why do white people come around asking questions?) and we got the most amazing welcome I have ever had from strangers. They knew the lad and we left a few dollars for him with an apology. A few weeks after we got back we got a letter from the family to say thank you (the shop owner insisted on an address so he could make sure we got to know the money had made it to the right place) and an apology for the child's 'rudeness'. I don't think I have ever felt so humble in my life. Sadly there was no address on the letter or we would have kept in touch. -

If I saw that with a band I have to be honest and say it would affect my opinion of them, and not in a positive way. Some of the 'cyber flounce brigade' as you term them are idiots but if you take the time to research the history of the flag and it's connections you will see that it isn't something many people would want to attach themselves to (well at least I hope not) and as mentioned above it has been reclaimed by the far right in America. Would it stop me going to see a band? Probably no but I would look into the context more before going, would it encourage me to see them? 100% No, Would I book them? Again 100% no as I wouldn't want other people to assume that it's something I would identify with. I am sure there will be loads of other views, but trying to look at it from a band view and a punter view I can't see a single positive in retaining it. There are loads of alternatives, some early incarnations of the Stars and Stripes for example that are just as recognisable but without the baggage. -
WD 40 is not a contact cleaner, it's a penetrating oil and lubricant. You need a can of Servisol which is a contact cleaner.
Not to be pedantic but the original is not a penetrating oil either, it is often used as such but does not have the 'creep' of something like Plusgas. It's a water dispersant (hence the WD prefix) and lubricant. But now wd40 is used as a brand and comes emblazoned across a wide range of products. I am not sure what is in modern contact cleaners, I still have a can or two of the old stuff which is much better but does contain some nasty stuff.
Dunno if you have also seen this thread? A whole bunch of differing views expressed! But I did find it a very helpful intro to the murky world of compression... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248974-to-compress-or-not-to-compress/page__st__120__p__3291933__hl__compressor__fromsearch__1#entry3291933
Thanks, I had read through it but was just sort of curious as to what people do, I expected it to be an all or nothing split so have been surprised to see the results. All the comments are interesting, like any pedal/ effect/ filter there will be a range of views and for a relatively new player like myself it's useful to hear people's experiences.
Interesting set of results. Are the other non-users staying just not looking at the this thread? I can't believe I'm in that small a minority.
I have been surprised if I am honest, especially by the number than use them sometimes and not others, I thought I was unusual in doing that although mine is on most of the time.

Lewis responded to a wanted ad I put up, I paid him for the pedal yesterday at about 9.30am, by lunchtime I had a message to say the pedal was in the post. It arrived this morning well packaged and exactly as described. The perfect seller, genuinely could not have been better. Thanks mate, much appreciated.
TC Sub n' Up! Did I say that already? I'm sure I recommended it somewhere.
It may have been on my thread. I have had one a few weeks now. First impressions were ok, monophonic was a little disappointing, poly a bit better. Then I starting messing with the TonePrint and suddenly it's a different animal and I love it. I just wish the three positions could be three TonePrint maps.

As a fairly clueless musician my opinion is probably not much use, but the way I see it, standard musical notation is a very accurate way of showing what to play where and isn't instrument specific, tab is a less accurate way but IS instrument specific. I self taught myself using tab, online tutorials and by playing along to songs I love. Probably not the best way but works for me. I also found tabs very very useful when I had twenty songs to learn in a month.

It would be interesting to see that in action.

The version I heard has the second line - who kept a pig in a bucket, the rest is certainly not for here!
