1.
Flawless Blue
So you could pick out every single note and beat in a complete set at one listening and you know it well enough to know that each and every one was spot on? Sorry but I just don't buy that.
  2.
Believe me, you couldn't ask for more energy in either show. Energy plus flawless performances. I think they both got there on the same train. The "hard work" express. Blue
Flawless or you didn't notice? I have watched back videos of some of our gigs and struggle to spot mistakes that I know I made. We are always our worst critics. I don't want to see prog rock style 'look at my masterful music' performances, the punk attitude appeals much more to me and some of the best gigs I have ever been to had their share of mistakes but who cares? Everyone is human.
  3. Hmmm, did theyngetbthere by worrying about every single tiny mistake and perfecting it, or did they get there by having a passion for what they did and living the moment flat out and loving it which came across to the audience who were more interested in the eneergy than a perfect display of musicianship. If I want perfect music I will watch an orchestra, I want a gig to be full of energy and hit me hard, if that means they make a mistake or two who cares? I won't notice as I am enjoying myself too much.
  4.
There is a pre-loved David Eden (US built) WTX-260 in the For Sale section - not mine - going for around £175. UK seller. I have my eye on it myself!
It's not a maker I know anything about but the specs look very good.
  5.
The TE Elf is due to arrive at the end of the month (allegedly) - £250 new, 200w at 4Ohm. If you can wait.... I saw an Ashdown Superfly 500w recently for around £200 - PM Lozz for more info - he loves Ashdown as much as I love TE: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ashdown-Engineering-Superfly-500-Bass-Head-500W-Bass-Guitar-Amp-/182647609624?hash=item2a86a55918:g:nhkAAOSwd~RZT-nL
The Elf is very appealing and I can certainly wait that long if needed so is one to add to the list.
  6. I run a TE 1x15 combo and 2x12 cab but thinking that it may be worth investing in a separate head to use with the 2x12 for smaller venues (small- medium pub size probably up to 120 people sort of size)I won't use it very often so don't want to spend a lot if possible and will most likely buy second hand. A couple of TC ones seem to fit the bill and I have even had it suggested that a micro terror might manage (surely it's too small?) but would welcome other suggestions. I play a Gibson Thunderbird through minimal effects.
If you go for the Woolly Mammoth, be sure to warn the neighbours first!
I run a 500w TE stack as my practice amp (on very low to be fair) but in the conservatory and my neighbour is a big music fan and doesn't mind at all - sometimes asks me to turn up! And has been to a couple of our gigs.

Thanks, I only play passive so may give it a go. I already have a big bass muff deluxe and want to give the Guma drive a try but wanted a simple kit to try first. I have done general repairs and basic electronics but never messed around with surface mount (but am lucky in having an electronics engineer as best mate).
I've had a lot of "bits" from Bitsbox and can certainly recommend them. Never had one of their kits, but at that price you're laughing (it's laughably cheap as it's on veroboard rather than a proper PCB, but that shouldn't cause you any issues other than it being a bit more of a faff). I have had the Woolly Mammoth kit from PedalParts and it's an easy build, although it's one of those annoying circuits that doesn't play nicely with any sort of buffer in front of it, which renders it pretty much useless for me. Sounds great by itself, all the same.
Thanks for the info, The only thing in front of it would be a compressor. Would that give any issues do you think? Any other recommendations for a fuzz 'for beginner/ intermediate' to play with as a first build?

Looking at dipping my toe into making a box or two. Has anyone used these people: https://www.bitsbox.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=280_281&products_id=2518&zenid=bm98ik1dmt5ih20f5bcqltmu53 Any feedback good or bad? Looking at the woolly mammoth for starters.
  11.
How many time you spend playing the bass?
I play about 30-60 minutes every day and have a two hour rehearsal once or twice a week.
  12.
Yes, I'm compiling as much information as I can, from websites to videos. Now, I'm choosing my first bass guitar, isn't easy.
Play as many as you can, even if it's just a basic noodle some will feel better than others. I wouldn't spend a great deal at first as it will take a while before you know what suits you best.
  13. I started 9 months ago at 44, was gigging by December, have had several gigs now, one a week on Friday and several, more booked. Go for it, it's great fun and a brilliant way to focus your mind and relax.
  14.
They've done the same for me and a few other Basschat members. Top marks!
So it sounds like it's a common problem then. They could not have been more helpful, they only asked for a pic and where I got it and then were happy to replace. It arrived next day too.
  15. I have a Hercules stand I bought a while back, the handle/ adjuster has gone sticky over the last few months which makes it a pain to use. I contacted Hercules in the hope they could supply the part. After sending a couple of pics they very kindly replaced it FOC for me. Always nice to get good service :-)
  16. Probably not the issue on yours but on an Ibanez where I work the E string could touch the pickup when played a bit too enthusiastically which gave a sharp sound. Easy to check as you just need to push the string until it touches the pickup and see if the sound is similar. Is it worth taking it back to who set it up? As it seems they either didn't check with you what you wanted or did it very badly.
  17. YouTube is great for stuff, some rubbish obviously but some brilliant stuff. I am entirely self taught on the bass and found some brilliant tutorials on there. You will quickly work out who is worth listening to and who isn't.
  18. Any decent make will do, I like Beta, partly due to a local place stocking them at sensible money. Snap on are good but expensive. Old makes like Draper now just buy in bulk from China and rebrand so are often not the best quality.
  19.
I wish epiphone did the pro4 in black. I like the look of the gothic thunderbird but that is a bolt on thicker neck where I prefer the feel of the slimmer through necks but don't like either of the finishes.
One of the reasons I love my studio Gibson Thunderbird, set neck, proper bridge and looks the dogs, that's before you touch a string and then it's in a different league to my precision.
  20. I have the bigger Mosky power station and that has been perfect, not expensive either and not massive.
  21.
Just over £20 from Amazon. Bright, big display https://www.avsl.com/brands/chord/product/174.244UK-chromatic-tuner-pedal
I have that exact one, except I bought it direct off AliExpress for just over £10. It worked well in bright sun last Sunday.
  22.
apparently not
Yes they can in some cases, it's not the guarantee most think it is. If the sender can show it's fraudulent then it gets reclaimed, irrespective of what the receiver thought was happening.
