1. Agree with ^^^^ unless you are in a 60s cover band in which case I think they are supposed to be placed just under the chin aren't they?
2.
If you're getting motion sickness all the rather than just the day/ morning after taking methotrexate then you should definitely get it checked out and look at options - that's really not a normal response. MTX has been about for about 50 years now and while an effective immunosuppressant there are done far better options now. If you're dead set on MTX you should st least get your consultant to review the dose. All the best!
I only get the motion sickness if I get driven anywhere, fly/ boaty stuff, play computer games, watch quick moving handheld footage. Otherwise I am completely fine. I respond very well to the methotrexate and have been in probably 80-90% remission for a decade now hence the reluctance to risk a change. The ear thing is quite new though but I have recently got a new set of customs, maybe the old ones were a bit worn so a looser fit. Sadly the reason I got the new ones is that I managed to lose the old ones.
3. How many points do get per set of strings? I have 600 points but can't remember how I got them!
4. Thanks for the suggestions guys, it is methotrexate and I have been on it for about ten years now but the motion sickness used to be tolerable but has got progressively worse. I am reluctant to change to something else though as it has completely negated the effects of the arthritis (not RA but similar and a bit more aggressive). Strangely I don't suffer the usual side effects of severe nausea and sickness normally! I get scopolamine patches to use if I need to go anywhere e.g when we fly or have been on a cruise and they work perfectly BUT I can't use them every time I have a gig. Thanks for all the suggestions, especially about the acs travel sickness ones which I didn't know about.
5. Perhaps the most surreal eBay listing I have ever seen.
6.
Might be worth talking with ACS to see if they can come up with an alternative. They are based in Banbury and are very approachable. Not too long a drive from Tamworth.
I never thought of that, it's a good idea and worth a try.
7. Just got back...... From taking my daughter to her Brownie event, hope everyone had a good time and I hope to make next years one.
8. I have used ACS custom earplugs for ages but am having problems with them at the moment. I am on medication for my arthritis which has the joyous side effect of the most horrendous motion sickness I have ever suffered (I can't be driven 400yds without feeling ill or watch any handheld camera footage). When I use the earplugs I am also suffering the motion sickness after 5-10 minutes, presumably because they sit in the ear canal. I have tried my Peltor over ear ones and they don't affect me in any way so it must be down to the in ear canal design. So what I want to know is if anyone knows of any earplugs that just sit in the outer part of the ear but don't protrude. The type that allow a normal conversation/ transmission of a reasonable representation of the sound would be preferred. I could wear the peltors on stage as they are electronic but it would be a strange look and the alternative of not using anything doesn't appeal either.
9.
The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, they didn't last long enough for me to see them, well, I DID see the Beatles outside the Adelaide Town Hall amongst 200,000 others in 64 ..... OK seriously, Sugar with Bob Mould . They brought out a killer album and then I never heard them again
They did a few bits, all stunning in my opinion. Beaster being in my top ten of all time. He is still going and has just released another album. Perhaps the most underrated musician of all time.
10. On our first proper gig we were sharing the stage with a couple of other bands and a ladies choir (don't ask, it was a charity do) so had to move our pedals and microphones to one side. We moved them ready to start but the lead guitarist managed to pull a lead out. We were introduced before we were properly ready and the guitarist was still kneeling down sorting the cable so said to me to just say anything. The only thing I could think of was to say that the guitarist was a very religious man who had a ritual of praying before every gig. It got a good laugh from the crowd.
11. Does anyone know the difference between this and the MXR black label chorus?
12. Another vote for the smooth hound, range is superb as is sound quality and lack of delay. Customer service was brilliant too.
13. Shame, I fancied having a play with one of theirs. Thanks for letting me know.
14. Congratulations and good on you for pursuing it.
15. I have just got an Ibanez tmb30 and it's superb, you could go for new and still have a shed load of change.
16.
In case you or he are tempted to open it up and take a look, don't. Valve amps often run on very high internal voltages (4-500v not uncommon) and worse, they're DC, so if you touch the wrong thing, you're likely to meet the man in the sky with the big white beard.
When I was a student a mate had an old valve amp (for his stereo not guitar/bass) and the sound started going all muffled. He didn't drive so I took him to some back street repair guy in Derby who was supposed to be a genius with them. He probed it a bit with the top off and power on and declared one of the valves to be on its last legs. He then went to answer a phone call and came back five minutes later and just pulled the valve out with the power still on. I can still remember the flash and bang. The guy was ok but suffice to say we all needed new underwear. Sadly the amp was damaged beyond repair. The guy gave him a replacement as a good will gesture but it was not close in terms of quality from what I recall of it. It certainly gave me a healthy respect for the things.
17. I don't suppose you would be interested in a trade of a tc dark matter and some cash your way for the Fredric unpleasant companion.
18. I love watching live music so unless they are really really terrible, why wouldn't I stay? But I guess that's not everyone's mindset.
19. It's also more susceptible to moisture ingress and can bloom as a result. You can seal it with coats of PVA or similar but added to the reasons above it makes it not the best material. Bit of you have it and it's free then I suppose you can look at it from the point of view of why not? If the only thing you are using is time then you don't have too much to lose.
20.
I found this recent thread on octave pedals also very helpful. Some really good discussion about the two pedals you mentioned plus a number of others, both analogue and digital - worth checking out: http://basschat.co.u...e-octave-pedal/ I ended up sticking with my old Boss PS-6 Harmonist, which as well as being a polyphonic octave up and down pedal can provide other harmonic intervals too such as (thirds and fifths).
I had read that before I posted this. I guess, as with most things, people have a personal favourite so you end up getting a lot of possibilities which is why I have done some research and (at least think) have narrowed it down to the two above but wanted to remain open to suggestions if there was something amazing I have missed. I am still undecided and think I really need to have a play with some and see what I like best. As always on here, the experience of the members is immense and helps narrow down the options and I much prefer to hear reviews from people who use them than the people who make them!
21. You mention Arias, I have an Aria I picked up last year for £80 and it is my go to bass now if I am honest despite having several others including a Fender and an Ibanez. The Ibanez would also fall into your price range second hand and plays very well.
22.
The other major advantage of analog octavers other than tone is that there is no processing delay. Digital octavers usually lag a few ms behind the dry note, I notice it and it bugs me.
Hmmm, I wasn't aware of that. I thought the delay was down to settings/ individual pedals so that is food for thought as I am sure it would bug me as well. Thanks for all the replies, some great food for thought.
23. Quick update to say the bass safely arrived at its new home today. Massive thanks to Beedster for his generosity, it will make a big difference.
