  1. I think (although will defer to expertise) these tuners were on several of their instruments, and the higher specced ones such as the JB60 and JB85 had the standard four-screw ones - electronics similar across the Board though.
  2. As above, includes 2nd Class postage. In v good condition, perfect working order with original packaging. I've concluded I am indeed a P bass chap so am moving on my Jazz (Tokai Jazz Sound).
  3. SOLD £390 The few I've seen online are going for double this price; price lowered as I'd like to make space for something else while it is still available; I think this is a very fair price for a US Fender rival. I'd consider trades with cash your way for something like a Non-reverse Thunderbird or P Bass. Try me. Here's my 1983ish Tokai Jazz Sound JB45 with details as follows: - Custom bone nut (39mm) provided by Edge Guitar Services in Bristol - 4.1kg - Tone pot: Emerson Pro CTS 250k blender - Fender gig bag (unpadded) included Some of the pics show Seymour Duncan QP pickups; these have now been sold, so the original pickups are included (which are rather good I must say). This has the dings and imperfections you'd expect from a bass this age, which I have photographed as best as I can. The frets are showing a tiny bit of wear lower down, but not greatly so. I'm happy to provide more detailed images with strings off. Those who know about this era and brand don't need to be told this is a top quality 60's jazz bass copy that holds its own with Fenders. Obviously collection and tryout in Bristol would be preferred but I can post at buyer's expense. I've done a video walkthrough (no playing, just closeups): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1n0e-TWyc8aGrwuYSrdBFNoidVRwPlt3l/view Thanks for looking!
  4. Hmm, yes, good point. Will research...
  5. Off to the USA soon; thinking I should make the most of the price difference for a wireless kit (already got in-ears). For $250-300 or so it seems to be the Sennheiser range that come up as winners. I'm not a pro but just want something half decent to mix the PA and my own signal. Advice / previous relevant post URLs I may have missed are welcome.
  6. If I didn't have my current setup, I'd get this for sure. Even if it's just used for the low gain tube setting, this is well worth it.
  7. Ah this will keep me going for a while at work! Also, quite surprising The Topics version of Louie Louie isn't on there. Listen from 2:31 onwards. I need to learn this as my ultimate "wow, he can really play" tune
  8. 3.5mm with 0.6mm pitch have done the job! Thanks for the advice. They're shorter than the existing screws but that means they don't protrude above the saddles, which is no bad thing for palm muting. I bought 100 so I now have quite a few spares going!
  9. Typical timing, just bought a PJ when I was actually looking for just a maple-necked P like this! FFS. Can't imagine this will be up for long.
  10. Thanks chaps. As has been said, worth a punt for a quid or two. A minor faff to get a great bass back to being playable. Can't believe I spent several times as much on a jazz bass and it doesn't match this one for feel.
  11. Yes, thread is something to look at but a 3.5mm screw will be too big. Attached is the image of the original screw and a #6-32 imperial, which is too big and has fewer threads per inch.
  12. You'd think so but this is definitely a 0.125" inch screw!
  13. To be fair I didn't look closely at the packet; they may have been metric. Diameter was fine but he was fairly sure the thread was incompatible.
  14. Hmm that sounds about right, but the chap I spoke to reckoned the thread pitch on the Fender Vintage screws he had (correct diameter) was different to mine.
  15. Hi all, I'm trying to source a saddle screw for my 1983ish Tokai JB45. My go-to chap in Bristol is unable to help. It's not one of the modern 3mm diameter ones widely available: 3.39 x 11mm according to the callipers. There must be someone who has such bits and bobs; I'd rather not have to get a new saddle....
  16. I was thinking about those Dp126s but I reckon the EMGs are more for me. Now to see if anyone is selling them!
  17. It is a stock model after all; got this back from JHS. I think the date reads '1997'.
  18. Yes, agreed on both points. I'll hopefully find out more from them tomorrow; the guy on the phone only knew about brass and woodwind so he had to find someone in the know!
  19. @RandomBass The original seller's photo. Neck feels good and it's quite light too (think that's a common thing with these V4s). Only VT + 3 way switch says to me the J pup is retro-fitted. I could be wrong. I've no reason to believe the body is not JHS, given the layout of the pickguard screws and aforementioned weight.
  20. Hi all, Following some good reviews on here, I recently acquired a JHS Vintage V4 as a spare / something bit different to my 80s Fender Jazz Special (PJ) - original P and Hot Stack J as per Duff M 🙂 It's quite a bass by any standards, let alone in its price range. It is actually a PJ; there are none on the JHS website so I've asked them if this is a) a model they did or b) an owner retro-fitting, and am awaiting response. So.... I did only get the V4 for a the 'P' function, which sounds decent. The 'J' pickup isn't particularly strong / to my taste (and yes, I've adjusted pickup heights to compensate for output differences). I'm contemplating an upgrade for one or both pickups. I generally play rock / 80s pop, indie stuff etc and wouldn't mind something a bit different to the Jazz Special (Which has a less-than-traditional sound on the 'P' pickup, IMO). The EMG Geezer Butler set seems pretty good, as does the 60 J and 58 P combo from Bareknuckle. Naively, I assume the Bareknuckle '58 P would be fairly similar to the Fender Custom Shop 59 found in the Dirnt sig models, which I'm most impressed by. Opinions welcome one or both options! Thanks
  21. at £70, this must be worth a pop. If I had seen this a week earlier... https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/232808333574?chn=ps&adgroupid=43920634520&rlsatarget=pla-359427365517&abcId=1063846&adtype=pla&merchantid=116621263&poi=&googleloc=9045629&device=c&campaignid=797602469&crdt=0
  22. A JJ Jewel. I preferred the feel and sound to my somewhat pricier Les Paul Custom; it's a lot of guitar for the money.
  23. It was several frets, so I paid him what the guitar tech quoted. Yeah it could have been a simple bit of malleting but I for the sake of a few quid, the issue has been resolved.
  24. One of several sent as below. I guess not having played the guitar regularly this passed me by (same goes for the chap who gave the electrics a once-over two weeks previous). It'll definitely be something I look for when buying and selling in future, so lesson learned.
  25. Essentially, yes. I pointed out the T&Cs bit about 7 days but did not receive any gratitude for showing discretion. Hey ho, such is life. Now that I have no non-bass equipment to move on, I'll stick to BC!
