He'll do custom builds too, so form an orderly queue...

An approach to a headless guitar: keep a headstock and give it a bulbous backside with normal tuners.

Hi, @Matt P Yes - I looked around for guitar bridges anything really stood out, but the threaded bass one is quite flexible. However, the string holes are too big and guitar strings pop through, so I need to make a plate with holes in it to fit. I've got to drill holes for and fit the extra pair of tuners. I may also need to put a new nut on it, as I've just added extra slots to the existing 6-string one for the moment, but the string spacing may be too wide.

Crikey - it's been a year! I don't think I've learned much on the uke...

I'll be trying out/looking for 80s synth bass sounds. (I saw them on that tour...)

Interesting - I looked into getting a local company to machine some aluminium tailpieces for me, but they weren't interested. (They were busy making fittings for BA planes.) I'd like something a bit less bland looking that the Hipshot.

I've got no intention of spending much time trying to adjust it from the front panel and learning the nuances of trying to memorise obscure button presses to tweak synth parameters; I'll be on it via the laptop.

I think I mentioned before that it's a bit curious that they've put in triangular pickups and then taken away some of the original styling cues, such as the triangular fret markers; the bridge unit falls into that category too for me.

You definitely have to learn to play a guitar/bass synth; a lot of the sounds don't work if you just pick up and play bass. Also some of the ideas you may have in your head as to what things sound like (eg. it holding a note whilst you play staccato) don't tend to work (though my EH Synth 9 can do it on its Oberheim setting). (Further to the above, it's just occurred to me that splitting your signal and using a foot-operated kill switch might do the trick, but then you might be as well getting some MIDI pedals instead.) When playing with my Minitaur and Markbass SS I found that I could take a supplied sound as a starter and then try tweaking it. I think that you can probably use an external MIDI unit to do the sound switching, rather than having to tap to scroll through things; something like a Keith McMillen Soft Step or other MIDI switcher., such as some folks use to control their FX racks.

The generic bridge is missing that bit of style.

I was having a chat with Chris Childs (Thunder) at the recent Birmingham show and he said he was getting a Ric sound on his endorsement Sandberg (a nice bass!), but I said the same thing about the lower registers but it wouldn't do it going up the neck, to which he nodded and agreed.

The best bass pedal. 🙂 I split the signal to 2 amps.

@NancyJohnson Haha! 🙂 (It was another Ric I picked instead of mine, though...) I've often said that a key distinguishing feature of the Ric is the way the sound changes as you move up the neck; it is entirely possible to get the sound if you stick to below the 7th fret, but where most basses sound gets thinner as you move up, the Ric gets thicker. ( @cetera stuck to the lower register in the blind test.) Probably the only other basses which have a pickup at the neck are the Billy Sheehan ones (which also has stereo outputs) and an EB3, so I'd expect they might have the same characteristics. I've got a selection of basses and the ones I gravitate towards are my Rics and my Warwick 5-strings.

Righty-oh; it's arrived! I might get to play with it this evening.

Nah - no Warmoth on that!
-
OK - if it said MIDI, then it should be fine. I meant, as opposed to a 5-pin DIN cable from a 70s cassette deck! (Well, actually my decent hi-fi system uses DIN cables.)
-
I'm totally bowled over with this one...
-
@stewblack The 5-pin DIN leads are MIDI ones, not audio, right? (The wiring is different.)

That truss-rod is on a wonk. I think we've had a Brazilian oportunidade featured on here before...
-
It wasn't as daft as a comment as might appear, as one might not be included with a s/h unit! 🙂

And a USB cable to connect to the computer?

Just checking...

Calling a PJ a P is taking the P... ...or is that adding the J?

Lining up silks - It's definitely possible, any tips?
