  1. The thru-neck Shaftys are one of the better Ric copies; there is a thriving 'fakers community. My selection: L-R: Shaftesbury 3263 (made by Eko) semi; it's claim to fame is there's a picture of Wyman playing on in The Stones. Vorg Matsumoku bolt-on neck 34" scale 70's; I call it "avocadoglo". A headless doubleneck with Ric copy pickups on the bass. My Rickenberger (real Ric pickups on a Steinberger). A CMI thru-neck, contemporary with the Shaftesbury and other brands. A recent Retrovibe Renegade, labelled "Red Baron" on the TRC and now sporting a Malteot Seymour Duncan pickups. The 70's Japanese ones seemed to be produced at a number of factories, the most famous being Matsumoku, and have logos applied for customer orders; thus it is possible to have identical instruments with different names on the TRCs. Facebook is the best place to go and @Bassassin is the person who knows the most about vintage fakers here on BC.
  2. I've got a J-Retro in one of my basses and it is really a great piece of kit - deep and authoritative bass.
  3. Somebody's bid £1 - they'll be disappointed if they win!
  4. I hadn't realised it could play notes from a MIDI controller - I may be giving that a try...
  5. The "vintage" Fender ones with the threaded saddles (ie. multiple grooves across the saddles) might be suitable; I've just got one on a mandolin/guitar ("mandotar") conversion I'm doing.
  6. I've got some other MIDI kit, including a Yamaha U16 USB interface, so hopefully that'll work. My MIDI rack made an appearance at a recent Bass Bash. I've dabbled with a couple of other synth pedals too. So this should be fun... The SS is great, but limited in saved settings.
  7. Yep; curiously I may have some time available...
  8. Well, I've just joined the club, pending arrival of the v3 from the Panda folks... I had looked at s/h ones (which are upgradeable), but a new v3 is under €300, so that'll do nicely.
  9. I guess they chose the wrong clipart image...
  10. The seller is going to post several meter readings, though...
  11. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SQUIRE-by-FENDER-Bullet-Strat-Neck/324131626867?hash=item4b77c01f73:g:V6cAAOSw91tekF17As far as Squier stuff goes, I bought the pink Squier Bullet Strat on the right there for £7.50 in a shop closing down sale in February; I've had to put a pickguard & pickups on it, a new nut, and a set of strings; once it's done it's probably worth £60. It would be all too easy to get carried away and over-pay for parts, to then find you could've saved money by buying a whole working guitar. Which is what the person who buys this one is going to have done (currently £36.20 inc postage after 14 bids)... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SQUIRE-by-FENDER-Bullet-Strat-Neck/324131626867?hash=item4b77c01f73:g:V6cAAOSw91tekF17
  12. My thoughts too - I sold a Squier Affinity P (a whole working bass) a few months back for £60. They are good basses for the money. I sold the Squier after I bought a beat-up Fender MIM Precision for £100. The body was knackered, but the rest of it was OK (and it had a Badass II bridge). I figured I could replace the body if the damage did turn out to be structural, but it seems stable. I do need to strip the finish though and re-do it (subject to not finding major issues). So, £77.50 (inc. postage) for a de-badged Squier Precision neck is too much, IMHO. (The only plus thing about it is that it's not had a fake Fender decal stuck on it!).
  13. ...and one of the tuners looks like it's been set at the wrong angle like one or two others which have featured in these hallowed halls...
  14. That's the problem with buying used Fender kit.
  15. Well, that's very "community" spirited! 🙂
  16. Yes, but the classifieds also say Does "buyer beware" and all that tally with the "trustworthy" and "community" aspects there? (BTW, I did contact the seller and he revised his price, so there can be no doubts about his genuineness.)
  17. BTW, the seller in this case looks to be quite genuine.
  18. The road to wherever is paved with good intent...
  19. I would say that collectable, vintage, etc. are quite different to a current mail-order item; however, if someone wishes to sell me a '62 Precision for 25 Guineas, then I would be more than happy to do the deal. But where it relates to current models is a different matter; I've seen Harley Bentons priced above what they are new from Thomann.
  20. Anyway, I've not pooped on his ad, but have messaged with a link to the current AliExpress one.
  21. The issue with letting things by is that the classified are presented as "An incredibly safe way to shift gear within a tight and trustworthy community.", which sort of goes against the law of the jungle. OTOH, if we encourage "calling out", then things could turn into everyone and their dog conducting a Dutch Auction on behalf of an indeterminate prospective buyer.
