  1. I've been watching some things on Amazon and some have even increased in the past few days (one by 50%).
  2. As per previous comments, the cost difference between buying retail in EU and importing is marginal, so going in person wouldn't be a saving.
  3. Did someone say Flan Flinger?
  4. Jerekkin?
  5. Just as well Moog didn't make a flanger!
  6. Well, maybe for elsewhere, but I think that people have a duty to pay the taxes they are required to pay, avoid paying those they aren't, and overall operate within the law (ie. not engage in tax evasion) legal ": Avoidance (legal) includes such things as: putting investments in and ISA, shifting a payment from one tax year to the next, adjusting pension contributions to stay below a tax threshold, buying duty-free, and suchlike. Evasion (illegal) can be: not declaring VAT, bringing in money in suitcases, buying something overseas and not declaring it, doing cash-in-hand deals, charging VAT when not VAT registered, etc. I dislike the official attempts to conflate avoidance with evasion and would say that the concept of "fair" and "proper" is somewhat elastic and will vary from person to person and government-to-government. Me, I'm an employee, so my tax status is pretty much defined automatically. Rant over, and back on-topic: I think it's great that a large number of people have individually contributed modest amounts of money to add up to a total to help a respected colleague; this isn't a one-off (we've done it before) and it's part of the character of the BC community.
  7. I've got a Laredo, but TBH I've never compare side-by-side against a 4001/4003. For me, I'd be looking to convert this one back to a 4-string, so the additional cost of that (plus a refin) would be prohibitive.
  8. Great - so you’re only paying shipping plus the 1% VAT differential over what it would cost you in Germany.
  9. Now you have to be sure the sale price is ex VAT, not full retail. You should not pay both German and UK VAT.
  10. That’s off topic.
  11. The context of this thread is an individual buying a new instrument manufactured in the EU; they should only pay UK VAT and not import duty.
  12. https://taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu/system/files/2021-03/2021-brexit-top-50-faq.pdf
  13. Well, given the context of this thread, it does. https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/relations-united-kingdom/eu-uk-trade-and-cooperation-agreement_en
  14. The free trade deal applied to new items manufactured in the EU.
  15. You still had to pay VAT regardless and, as pointed out, there is no duty on EU-manufactured goods.
  16. The free trade deal is that they do not.
  17. A roll of strap and some fittings from Amazon. Cut to length (they even included a pair of scissors!) and a quick flash with a Zippo lighter to seal the ends. The hard bit was making the holes for the Straplock.
  18. How is B* relevant?
  19. As I understand things: New items manufactured in the EU are not subject to import duty. You only pay VAT once, so the supplier should either do the admin for UK VAT or sell it to you VAT-free and you have to pay UK VAT. Actually, UK VAT is 20% whereas German is 19%, so it should be slightly more expensive than retail in Germany. If the seller doesn't do the VAT for you then the courier will likely do it on your behalf and charge you a fee for it. Your shipping fee should be VAT-inclusive. So, overall your extras will be shipping, 1% higher UK VAT, and a shippers fee for doing the VAT (maybe £20?).
  20. I made one - will post picture later.
  21. Well next time just look in your packing cases instead of asking damfool questions here! 🤣
  22. Stereo is about placing the instruments on the soundstage; just a left-right balance control does that. (That's one of the things mixers do.) Of course, if you split your mono signal and route it via separate Fx channels, then you can have two completely different sounds.
  23. I know I've posted this elsewhere, but it seemed on-topic here...
  24. With the 3 you can set the channels in series or parallel. I've never looked at a 2 and thought I'd rather have that. The 3 has a tuner and compression as well.
  25. I have a Microbass 3; the normal channel is excellent. However, the drive channel doesn't do it for me: I'd prefer it if they had two normal ones (like the Stanley Clarke acoustic bass model); if they released a model like that I'd buy one. It has an Fx loop, so you can use it as a hub on a pedalboard, eg. including a drive pedal; on my board the Fx Send/Return connect to a Quartermaster with 4 other pedals in switchable loops.
