  1. I take your point on the low start - I guess folks pay what they will, then...
  2. There's a picture of Bill Wyman playing one too. Sadly mine needs serious work to get it going, probably more than the value of the instrument...
  3. Yep - the gold paint "Fender" logo was a special touch. I'm looking to get it back to as near to original as I can. On the plus side, I bought it at a car boot for a fiver!
  4. I've got a couple of basses which I expect to be in the "thuddy" domain once they're brought back to life. One is a Vox Clubman. And the other is a Shaftesbury Ric(-ish) semi copy. Both need extensive work; the Vox is nearest, as I've nearly sanded the body down.
  5. Can anybody help me on this: I need a set of machines for a Levinson Blade neck it's a Japanese Texas model. I've finished a couple of projects, so I'd like to get the guitar I've built around this finished... I'd like to do it without drilling new holes. Thanks!
  6. A hacked Squier (though it has got CTS pots and a Sprague cap, which add gazillions to the value!). Oh, but the bridge & pickup covers aren't included... But then again it's got a hardwood thumb pull.
  7. The nick is on the Earth connector edge, so no safety issue there.
  8. Well, I don't think I can unsee it.
  9. Yes - a clickbait title and then when you read the details...
  10. But the title of the auction is: "Genuine Fender 1973 Telecaster P bass guitar Precision Jazz roadworn 70's 51P" The details then clarify that half of the instrument isn't "Genuine Fender 1973".
  11. There's no way that transfer on the headstock is 45 years old!
  12. I'll have the Schaller 3D, plz? Feel free to chuck in the couple of odd tuners - they might do me for a project...
  13. I'll have the VT bass, please - pm on way.
  14. Billy Squier is one of my favourite artists. I think that comment came about after that really awful video he did. He did have some chorus singers on one of his albums, called Billy's Choir...
  15. Darn - I want one of these, but a lot cheaper (<£10). I've had two attempts at buying on ebay and both times I've received one with a single deep notch. It's for an electric mandolin project, btw, so two strings per saddle.
  16. Well, there are approaches you can choose from when upgrading. I tend to try and put a budget on upgrading cheapies and certainly going past the value of the instrument probably busts that; otherwise it might just be a better option to get a better one in the first place. Since Spirits are sub-£200 instruments (s/h), I would most likely baulk at a pair of £80 pickups. (Of course, that's my approach - no reason why yours has to be the same!)
  17. The problem is those Aguilars are rather pricey...
  18. Well, I managed to acquire one pickup for the Spirit 5 and I've just wired it in today. It's not bad, but I'm still keeping an eye out for another, or replacements. I also shifted my Rickenberger plans to a 4-string, which is coming along. Sadly, the outgoing 4-string pickups don't fit the 5-er.
