Well, I've just joined the club, pending arrival of the v3 from the Panda folks... I had looked at s/h ones (which are upgradeable), but a new v3 is under €300, so that'll do nicely.

I guess they chose the wrong clipart image...

It would be all too easy to get carried away and over-pay for parts, to then find you could've saved money by buying a whole working guitar. My thoughts too - I sold a Squier Affinity P (a whole working bass) a few months back for £60. They are good basses for the money. I sold the Squier after I bought a beat-up Fender MIM Precision for £100. The body was knackered, but the rest of it was OK (and it had a Badass II bridge). I figured I could replace the body if the damage did turn out to be structural, but it seems stable. I do need to strip the finish though and re-do it (subject to not finding major issues). So, £77.50 (inc. postage) for a de-badged Squier Precision neck is too much, IMHO. (The only plus thing about it is that it's not had a fake Fender decal stuck on it!).

That's the problem with buying used Fender kit.

Yes, but the classifieds also say Does "buyer beware" and all that tally with the "trustworthy" and "community" aspects there? (BTW, I did contact the seller and he revised his price, so there can be no doubts about his genuineness.)

I would say that collectable, vintage, etc. are quite different to a current mail-order item; however, if someone wishes to sell me a '62 Precision for 25 Guineas, then I would be more than happy to do the deal. But where it relates to current models is a different matter; I've seen Harley Bentons priced above what they are new from Thomann.

Anyway, I've not pooped on his ad, but have messaged with a link to the current AliExpress one.

The issue with letting things by is that the classified are presented as "An incredibly safe way to shift gear within a tight and trustworthy community.", which sort of goes against the law of the jungle. OTOH, if we encourage "calling out", then things could turn into everyone and their dog conducting a Dutch Auction on behalf of an indeterminate prospective buyer.

What's the protocol here for seeing something in the classifieds which is offered at nearly double the price of a new one? Would you keep quiet, or would you give a link to the original?
