  1. I usually take one or two to the Bass Bashes I go to; I've been to the SE and Midlands ones.
  2. Whenever I see a band, if there's a Ric bass there, then that's what my eyes go to.
  3. Rics have the best finish of any production bass.
  4. Just take a close look at the bridge...
  5. It would - it is a genuine Fender part, as it left the factory.
  6. I've got a partsblaster P-Bass, which has a Squier body, a MIM neck, Badass bridge, Fender tuners & a Hopshot eXtender, Fender USA pickups, and my wiring harness (CTS/ Switchcraft/ Sprague). It sounds and plays really well, a proper Precision grind!, and I'd have to see something very special to replace it! I had it at the last SE Bass Bash. In general, if I were looking to upgrade a P, I'd be looking for a set of US pickups, or maybe trying the Geezer ones.
  7. I've put real Ric pickups on a faker before. I've got SD pickups on a Ric, too.
  8. Generally you lose the headstock to make the overall instrument shorter; this one has the length of a headstock plus more added to the body's length. Well, when I say the body - it's just an outline around the central plank. Incidentally, on that theme, I tried a Yamaha Silent Guitar the other day and I could hear it quite clearly - what the heck's that about???
  9. I know someone who is on perpetual lookout for a Black Eagle pickguard. Seems a shame to have split one up for a project, though.
  10. Tat made me look up this one...
  11. I lunched at a GBK today with my boy and the music being played included "Come Together" - now that is a great bass line!
  12. Cheers for the Thunder, Craig - a quick gig-bag shuffle at Waterloo and now I've filled a gap in my collection!
  13. I have to say that Alembic have produced some ugly basses; nice wood and workmanship, but I've never particularly wanted one.
  14. Looks like a replacement bridge to me, as you can see the filled in holes of the original 3-point one.
  15. Brill - pm'd back.
  16. I've only played it in the house, so haven't cranked it up. I found it really confusing at first, but figured out you have to turn down the FX volume to zero. I found 2 sounds which really work for me ("Red 96" = SWR Red Head & "Blue 70 Plus" = SVT-VR Plus) and I split the signal at my pedalboard, so a clean goes to one channel and the effects to the other. I've still got to do a bit more to get to grips with it, though. I might try my Ric in stereo to it at some point.
  17. I've been using 2 amps, so decided to try one 2-channel one!
  18. Hi! I'll have that - cheers! (Are they replacement knobs?)
  19. I have one of these and I quite like it. I pugged in a computer and set option 1 on each channel to one I like, turned off the builtin FX and it sounds rather good.
  20. Yep - the 70s copies pre-date the trademark registration, so (provided they don't have a Ric logo) they don't infringe it. And anyway, they are no longer available new, so it's just chasing shadows on the 2nd hand market. However, I do have respect for the way they have stuck to their original base and not sold out & offshored. And those current Chickenbackers are awful!
  21. The problem for me with the old SB700/1000 models is that they are very large. ( I bought an SB700 new at the time.)
  22. Apparently they’re going to sue Rickenbacker for trademark infringement.
  23. My reaction these days when I see a Fender bass is “I wonder if it’s a real one?”; the fake logos thing has ruined the brand for me.
