1. Well, they're prepared to swap for a telescope (I think the autocorrect kicked in there!)...
2. Cheers, Nik - thanks for updating me on the Status (ahem) status! Is putting binding on a bass doable on the day?
3. Well, I'm planning to come along. I had been intending to bring my '64 Ric 4001, along with a really nice 2010 4003. But now you're saying Status folks will be there, so do I bring one of those? And now with the luthier chap, I've got my super-interesting Pete Longfellow aluminium Tele or my Doni Millennium Falcon 5-string which need some work. Or maybe some binding on my Shaftesbury Ric copy. And a fine bass player from Uriah Heep!!! This could be a full day...
4. I need some MIM tuners - any idea where to get them from?
5. Darn - I've been looking for a Squier neck. But nothing to trade...
6.
If you want a "filler panel" get the mesh type - not the closed off type.
Yes - for sure! (Actually, the panel I have for mounting sockets has pre-drilled holes right across.)
7.
Two things that you should consider before "sealing" off your rack case. 1. Airflow. many rack units even if they don't have fans or heat sinks rely on the design of the rack case to direct the airflow over them to keep cool. Blanking off the unused rack slots might prevent this. At the very least consider vented blanking panels rather than plain ones. 2. No matter how well you think you've got everything fitted and secured, eventually things will work loose, and an open U or two can be invaluable when trying to find out exactly what has come undone when one or more items in your rack suddenly stop working for no apparent reason.
Thanks - yes, it would be a vented panel. And yes again, a blank panel is easily unscrewed.
8.
Can't say that I've ever come across the exact thing that you are after but you can get insulating boots for the rear of IEC sockets - Link If you fit one of those and secure it in place would that work for you? As an added precaution I would buy some thin sleeving and fit it over the individual live, neutral and earth wires where they connect to the tags. Heat-shrink sleeving would be ideal for this.
Thanks - that could be handy as a plan-B!
9.
The thread has already been won of course, but still: I once bought a synth from Cesar Zuiderwijk of Golden Earring. Sadly he's not obscure enough, and also he's a drummer... ...but I sold it again, to bass player Alex Roelofs of The Nits, and since he used it for bass parts, I'm suddenly in the clear on all parameters, specially as Alex left this unknown band just as they gained some popularity - mostly in Holland.
I bought a synth which belonged to Roye Albrighton, of Nektar. I have a Strat tone knob of Ritchie Blackmore's guitar from the Rainbow Rising tour. I have some bass strings which Gordon Rowley, of Strife, gave me. I met Jimmy Page and showed him a Ten Years After CD a couple of weeks before Alvin Lee passed away. I've got a Ric which must've been in the factory alongside Macca's.
10.
On a journey up the M1, the song 'Start' by The Jam came on the stereo, about which my wife commented how the bass line was an obvious rip off from The Beatles' 'Taxman'. At the next services, I spotted Bruce Foxton, and told my wife to go and give him that feedback. She didn't.
She was right, though!
11.
I found out last night that the Ampeg 8x10 that I play through every week at my local rehearsal studio was used by none other than Jah Wobble at the excellent Simon Says festival in Leicester last month. (Great gig BTW). I'm sure that he wouldn't have sounded so good had it not been for all of my hard work breaking in the cab for him. :-) So what's your most obscure bass claim to fame? Did Sting nick your parking spot? Did Paul McCartney go to school with your dad? Did you lend Lemmy your last plectrum?
Heather McCartney once asked me if I'd like to dance.
12. Any decent one should do; you could just wander along to a guitar shop and check some out. The headless is about the same length as a guitar, but the body may be bigger. (I think the Status gig bags are OK.)
13. I've put some things into a 4U 19" rack and at the moment I've got a mains 4-way extension in the rack with its trailing lead running out with a 13A plug on it, which is a bit scruffy. I'd really like to have a connector panel on the back to plug things into and I have a 1U panel and MIDI & jack sockets for it and am looking for a suitable mains socket to complete it. I can then close off the back of the unit with a filler panel, to make it self-contained with three connectors to plug mains/MIDI/audio into. To do that I want to put an IEC (320/kettle) mains socket there, but they all seem to be open-backed with solder tabs for connecting the inner-side wires to (ie. intended for enclosed equipment), so I'd need to do extra work to make the inside side safe. What I'd really like is a M-F coupler which is chassis mounted. Is there such a thing?
14. Oh man - the ding must've knocked a bit off its value.
15.
Sorry - Its not something I really care that much about, and it clearly is something very important to you, so if you want to refer to them as bass pedals then knock yourself out, I will keep referring to them as midi pedals and we will all be happy.
Sorry - I blinked and missed two weeks of this thread I guess, happily, I must've been doing other things which were very important. So, I hear you ask, what could be more important? Well, on topic, I've now got my MIDI bass pedals connected to a Roland JV-1010 as well as my Minitaur! I do have a lot of sounds to figure out, though, especially considering the bass pedals can go over 8 octaves... Also, on other fronts, I hoovered the house yesterday, washed my duvet and made a nice chicken casserole too! Lots of very important things going on...
16. I think it's about time for a full stop.
17. I was expecting a duplicate of the link to the bass made out of a packing case...
18. "Guitar body fits a grunge style in my opinion" [quizzical-tone]Okaaaayyy...[/quizzical-tone]
19. You're only supposed to do that to Flying Vs.
20.
Thank you gentlemen, it is indeed a lovely geetar at a rather competitive price. If I didn't have two other Strats......
That's a lame excuse... Warmoth make great necks, BTW (I think the Fender logo downgrades it!); I have one which cost me almost as much as this whole guitar.
21.
I was going to email him that question but figured that he'd have some stock answers to smart arse comments.
Well, it might bring down the tone.
22. On the plus side, it comes with its own packaging!
