  1. I got the impression that’s a warning post.
  2. I'm going for one of the ones @Happy Jackrecommended; the 4-channel version (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334387167184?var=543385789351) (there was also a code for an extra 5% off). A word of warning - I looked at some options and some brands are (deliberately) vague as to what their Watts are; for example this one just says "2x 500W", without saying peak or RMS; after a bit of poking around I found a seller saying "max", so I guess that's peak then. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184524818501
  3. Yep - it's probably an exercise in futility, since I have MIDI bass pedals, synths, synth fx pedals and whatever else anyway! I guess that playing the fills & stuff on the bass means playing the bass on the pedals... Who knows when (or if) I'll put it into action anyway.
  4. I did that with the bass one and managed to get one working one out of it. I also dismantled and put back together the guitar one. But I don’t trust either tbh.
  5. Thanks, Andre - I appreciate the reply. They look nice and the price seems about right, however, I think I need a drop-in replacement, so maybe this one isn't what I'm looking for on this occasion.
  6. Thanks - they look rather nice. I guess the two questions are: Is there a drop-in replacement for a Steinberger? How much do they cost (I'm in the UK)? (I definitely want to steer clear of the Chinese toot!)
  7. Yep - I'm thinking it's for effects & swell, rather than staccato on the beat stuff.
  8. I've got a Roland GM-70 MIDI interface which I'll give a go; I hear there may be some latency though. TBH, I don't really have an intended use as such; it's just one of those "because I can" type things.
  9. I've got this doubleneck; it's rather nice to play, but is badly let down by the cheapo bridges (both bass and guitar). The bridges are the dreaded "Overlord Of Music" ones; they appear to be cheap for a reason! The claws are made of soft metal and the stock M.6(?) tuning bolts will mash them at any opportunity; also, there's a step in the bridge plate at precisely where the tuner buttons make contact, so they'll graunch and grind there too. The guitar one is similar, but it's also got the trem unit, whose spring sub-assembly isn't up to the job, so I've locked it in place (fortunately it does have a locking latch!). I bought a replacement bass bridge from China, but it was faulty (the recess wasn't tall enough for the claws to retract into); however, I managed to make one working one from the two. The situation now is that I don't have any confidence in those bridges and I'd really like to just replace them. Regarding replacing, these are my thoughts: They appear to be Steinberger copies, but I'm not 100% sure they're drop-in replacements. Actual Steinberger ones are hard to come by and aren't cheap. I don't think I've ever seen a Spirit or Hohner one. 3rd party ones are 3-4x the value of the instrument (each). Any thoughts on options? I don't want to spend a lot on it, as I got it cheap (because the original owner gave up on it due to the bridge issues). Incidentally, you may see from the close-up picture that the original pickups were labelled "EMG" - I don't believe that for a minute! Being a Ricaholic, I replaced them with Retrovibe Ric-style pickups, which were a direct drop-in replacement, even the screw holes. I also did a bit of re-wiring and one of the pots incorporates a push-pull cut-out switch for the guitar pickups.
  10. I've got one of those synth pickups to put into a Ric bass when I acquire a suitable bass to hack. I let one of the other conventionally shaped Roland bass synth guitars go by a couple of months ago; it was on ebay with a BIN of £350 and I think it may be back up at £850 at the moment.
  11. Great - I may try them in the one here (pictured at the last SE Bass Bash). A couple of these and one of those power amps should do the trick... If that works, I'll get another of the same to put the synth units back in.
  12. I don't know if the HB neck pockets will fit Fender (and compatible) necks. Not saying they don't - just that I don't know.
  13. It's like a clock - it's always right twice a day.
  14. I just picked up an Ampeg valve pre-amp, which is just great. (I tried it through the Fx Return of a MarkBass.) The problem is I now want a 2nd (for stereo). I might pick up a SansAmp one to tide me over. I think the pre-amp can make a big difference even in a home setup. That's interesting - I'm just looking at those; I've been thinking of the 4-channel one, so I can put synth pedals through it too. I'll probably go for one at the end of the month. What depth rack case do they need? I'm debating whether two 1U pre-amps plus one of those will work in a Chord 3U fabric case, or whether they'll need more room to breathe.
  15. When I looked for a pedal some years ago I found the Aguilar Octamizer sounded way better than the Boss, MXR, and a couple of other pedals I tried. I actually had people giving me compliments in the shop and asking me where I was next playing. That said, the 3 Leaf one sounded best of these.
  16. Necro-thread time! How did it go with using a 600mA supply for the Minitaur. I have mine rack-mounted and would like something tidier than the plugboard and wall-warts currently inside.
  17. I think I'm probably going to go for a 1U rack unit.
  18. Super-cool 80's bass; that was when I realised that the Japanese didn't just make copies.
