+1 for the Little Mark III. I use it with 2 VdK 112's and for me that's all I need (+ my pedalboard). Like Danuman says; if the gig allows you can do with one cab.

Tried not to ask this... home and practice amp
JazzBass4624 replied to pburrows's topic in Amps and Cabs
Why do you think it's too big ? I practice at home on my LM III with only 1 cab connected (350w) but with the volume knob rolled back. No probs with neighbours. -
+1. I had locking issues with cheap speakon cables on both my LM and VdK cabs. I replaced all cable speakons by genuine Neutrik connectors and the issue was solved.
-
I had the same problem with my two VdK112 cabs. When I only had one I used the earlier mentioned quicklok stand. Now with two cabs I use the same stand but 90 degrees flipped so the two rear bars on the picture are on the ground and the cabs sit on the other ones. Now I have a leveled stand. Make sure the locking mechanism is tight.

+1 for the Little Mark 2 or 3. For rehearsal I use it on a single 112. Approx 300w in a 100db speaker...... Just connect the power cord and the speakon lead and go. Tone controlls at 12 and in my case VLE rolled back and VPF 2 o'clockish. A brilliant little, light amp.

I'm a very old school player coming from the fender bassman's and dynacord bassking's in the 60's. Currently I play a class D and two neo 112's like chris-b does. I wouldn't want to go back to the old days hauling the heavy stuff up and down. Soundwise I'm more than happy with the new generation amps and cabs.

Personally I don't want to think about having to use different set-ups for different bands. My Little Mark III > 2 VanderKley 112ext are my rig for every purpose. No matter what I play. "My sound" is usually all tone controlls at 12, VLE off and VPF at 1 'o clock. Some times I roll high mid and high somewhat off. I more or less do this to suit my own ears because I never hear anybody complain that my bass sounds too boomy or too punchy. I'm a happy bassplayer.

I'm very happy with my LMIII and wouldn't like to change back to my Fender Bassman 100, Dynacord bassking or Peavy combo. I can get the sound I want from my little class D amp and love the comfort of only having to haul a bass, a small amp and two lightweight 112's from and to my car.

I don't play ten's but 12" drivers. For flexibility I haven chosen for two singles. At home or for practice I just need one but on gigs I take the two of them. Not always for volume reasons but also to get the fuller tone I like. It's the more expensive solution I agree but then I don't buy amps or cabs every few years so I see it as a long term investment in my hobby.

I have no experience with the cabs but my Indonesian LM III functions flawlessly, no problems at all.

I've received my 2nd 112ext yesterday and the set (LMIII + 2x112ext) sounds great. Deep warm bass without being boomy. Tweeters rolled back! I have not been able to really crank them up and I doubt if I ever will. This set is loud enough for what I do and the venues we will most likely play in. (200 - 300) I would guess there is not so much difference between 212 and 410 in such relatively avg venues. Would they be larger I would expect FOH anyway. The portability and flexibility of two light weight cabs and a small amp is an advantage for me.

I would drop a line to Marc van der Kley and explain what exactly you're after. If anyone can clarify it's certainly the man himself. I've got one 112ext and a second one on its way. 600w is more than enough for me but I like the extra low-end that the increased speaker surfacet of two cabs give. I'ts not the cheapest solution though. I have always guessed the mnt was developed for more powerfull amps than my LMIII and should also be used as a pair (hence 8 ohm).

Misconceptions... or is it better on the floor?
JazzBass4624 replied to anzoid's topic in Amps and Cabs
When I'm only using 1 12" cab I put it on a quicklock tilt stand. This eliminates acoustic coupling but for small venues this is not a problem for me. -
Beat Buddy causes annoying hum from bass amp/cab
JazzBass4624 replied to JazzBass4624's topic in Effects
Thanks CameronJ, it's clear to me; either a dedicated adapter for the BB or a good and fully isolated power supply. -
Beat Buddy causes annoying hum from bass amp/cab

Current chain adapter supplies 1300 mA which apparently is not enough for both stompboxes and BB. -
Beat Buddy causes annoying hum from bass amp/cab
JazzBass4624 replied to JazzBass4624's topic in Effects
That's it! Thank you. I took the two Boss pedals from the chain and BB worked without any noise. BB adapter supplies 0.5A so I guess any 500 mA adapter will due as a replacement if needed. -
I run my bass through a LMIII/VanderKley rig. To get the sound I want I use a Boss compressor and a Boss chorus. Both stomp boxes get their power from an 9V adapter with daisy chain. In addition my band uses a Beat Buddy "drum computer" which comes with its own 9V adapter. For convenience and because the BB adapter is certainly not a high end piece of equipment I connected my BB to the daisy chain. Signal from the BB goes directly into a PA system. As soon as I connect the BB to the daisy chain my bass amp/cab starts humming very noticeably. Apart from that the BB works. If I use the original BB adapter and plug it into the same 230V socket the hum is gone. For the moment no problem but this BB adapter doesn't look like its going to serve me very long so I need to solve this. Abybody an idea? Thanks in advance, Ernest

Fender American Pro Jazz - Pass Certificate
JazzBass4624 replied to bassrockbob's topic in Bass Guitars
You can check the real date simply by sending an e-mail with the serial nr. to Fender customer service. I did so (for my Am.Std.) and got a nice reply with all the details (component part nrs. etc.) and the month/year of assembly. Just explain that you're confused by non corresponding documents in the case. -
I'm using the Singular Sound BeatBuddy. It as every time sig in it. Tempo gets et by either tapping or dialing. Many different drumsets. Gives my band all the flexibility we need.
-
Why made in Italy? The result would probably be a price increase. I have no probs at all with my made in Indonesia head.
-
I'm a happy LM3 user but a headphone out would be nice and a swap of the jack output for another speakon too (who would use jacks for speakers these days?). Certainly would not change anything to the tone/filter section.
-
Apart from my very old Fender Bassman 100 and even older Dynacord rig my only experience is with VdK 112EXT. I cannot compare to Berg but I can say that I'm very, very happy with my little light and powerfull 112EXT. I only have one since I'm playing in a 3 pce band with no extreme volume requirements. Should I ever need more volume I would order another 112EXT no doubt. It's not the cheapest cab but IMO it's certainly worth its money.
That's pretty much how I feel! For most of the bands I play in even just the EXT should be about enough. (Something about sensible levels, judicious eq'ing and effective use of available power...) My main band, though, is a demanding one, so it's nice to have such trouser-flapping power on tap!
+1 I wonder how much I would have gained from a single 112ext to a single 112MNT. Both cabs are 8Ohm so the LMIII would only provide 300watts max.
You are a very lucky man! :-)
I know!

As mentioned in an earlier thread; I gig with a LMIII and one VdK112ext which I put on a quiklok tilt stand. Untill now I have not been in a situation where I was afraid of not having sufficient volume. For home practicing I really have to keep the master a mm level. My wife encouraged me to order another 112 to complete the stack. Mainly because I stated that the rig would then be ready for almost anything. But as said I have not been missing anything sofar so why should I spend the money if there is no real reason. Might I join a louder band I can always order a second cab. Supply time is not that long for VdK's.
