1. I'm hearing great tone, but heavy, expensive and not many of them... I should be considering something else I reckon. I do have a very strong draw to a 60s Jazz to round out the collection... a TB would be about the same sort of money...!!!
 2. Great opinions and feedback folks! There are of course other options, but I wanted to understand the general feel for them... Thanks!
 3.
Not sure of your location, but as I mentioned there was one in a shop in London a while back.
I've had a good browse around but I've not seen one for sale in the UK at the moment...
 4. Lol! Thanks all. I may well be going mad. Having said that, I've played a big-assed low D whistle made out of aircraft grade aluminium - and they need a proper good rubbing to warm them up to get them to concert pitch. And I've played one in a field where I genuinely thought my fingers were going to stick to it.. Chances are I wouldn't get an opportunity to try a TB to see if I liked one either - thought I'd gain some opinions before I started looking. It might take a while to even find one (let alone a good one) first tho!
 5. I appear to have developed GAS for a TB2000. Weight aside, are they worth the pursuit, or am I going slightly mad?
 6.
I had a period when I used active PA cabs (classic wedge on a pole type) - and the fact they're not cuboid really really got on my nerves...
I prefer 90 degree angles as well..
 7.
I was thinking more about a rack (not ribs).. My beer lives away from potential electrical entanglement..
I must admit your (sensible) comment did cross my mind. I'm using a Helix Floor Unit at the moment but I've eyed up a Kemper, or even rack mounted solutions as well.. the BF would at least allow me to get them off the floor or not suspend them on a bar stool or chair..!
 8.
And its a much more useful shape for putting things on the top
Like a pint glass you mean?
 9.
You've looked at the specs of the RCFs?
I did - but it doesn't offer much more than the FR800 and crucially it's bigger (6" taller) heavier (11lbs more) and rates at 45hz -3db. Was concerned about getting it in the car and lugging about which is what put me off the Line6 L3's.
 10. Well I'm going to order an FR800. I will let you all know when it arrives!
 11.
Big Baby 2 goes down to 33 Hz, is cheaper, and 26lbs in weight, but I guess then you would have a poweramp to find (and carry separate)
And for me that sort of defeats the purpose - if it's separate then I'd have to be careful over poweranp choice and all that.. and it's more to lug around and....
 12. 42 should be fine for bass. I've emailed him now to see what he thinks, but it does look like an ideal solution at 33lbs - that's over 20lbs lighter than the line 6 one.
 13.
Not all PA Speaker go low enough hz do they?
And herein is my dilemma - the popular frfrs seem to bottom out at about 56.
 14.
What about a Barefaced FR800? http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/FR800.htm
Interesting... I wonder, does anyone have experience of this with a Helix?
 15.
Whats your budget? Any decent PA speaker will likely do you better than the majority of those marketed as FRFR cabs.
Nothing specific - will pay what is required to get it right. Don't want to end up buying multiple times and learning the hard/expensive way
 16. I'm considering using my Helix out and about, and I'd like an FRFR solution to go with it - either standalone or for monitoring when the Helix is going into FOH Thinking bass specifically, are there any obvious choices or is the Line 6 L3 the best bet?
 17. And if I hadn't just bought a 74 precision I'd be coming over for a gander at it!!
 18. Been playing it some more now. Needed another quick truss rod tweak as it settled after shipping, and it seems to have stabilised well now. Really liking the TI flatwounds on it - I know a lot of ppl think they are a bit 'rubber band' and they certainly are lower tension compared to the Chromes but I really like the sound. It's probably not typical for a early/mid 70s fender - but it sure has a great vibe about it and it's proper lightweight. Very happy - and thanks for all the kind words too folks! I guess there's a good reason why they are the reference classic design!
 19.
this is what i was thinking
I see what you are saying.. I do.. maybe I should get a few and swap and change now and again... My other thought was slapping a hipshot xtender on it
 20. Surely they wouldn't relaunch the TE brand just to produce practice style amps?!
 21.
Lovely looking thing, very Dee Dee Ramone, which is a very good thing by the way.
Back in the early 90s when I played bass first time round, Dee Dee Ramone was exactly the reason I wanted a 74 P in Oly White with a black guard!!
 22. (if anyone says tort I will take me toys away)
 23.
Would look good with a white guard
Heh - don't get me started - I umm'd and aaah'd about what to replace the original with and stuck with a direct replacement bwb. Main reason? 74 was the first year of bwb so I decided to show it off
 24. I always thought it was bad enough that you had to watch where you were waving your headstock about - I'd be really worried if it was more of a concern that you might take someone's eye out with your stacked knobs!
