  1. There are rumours abounding that a real denim finish is on the cards
  2. Yes, absolutely.
  3. Well, this leg of the trip is Kings Cross (London) to Peterborough. From there it will go by car to just north of Spalding..deep in the heart of the Fens. Our part of the world is called “South Holland”.. which is ironically not the one close to you @Marcoelwray
  4. Ah yes.. that bass does get quite a bit of attention
  5. And here’s the evidence of it enjoying the journey to a new set of adventures!!
  6. Nah, it’s not that impressive - there’s some *properly* impressive collections on here!!!
  7. Yes indeed! Having met up with the fab @TrevorR in a well known coffee chain.. the famous bass continues it’s journey and is now winging it’s way north on the LNER service to Peterborough. Only the best for this bass mind, first class!
  8. I think the size is all about compromise - for me the standout thing once you get into it (full fat) is the sheer enormity of the i/o options
  9. A helix is very much driven by how well the patches are set up - I’ve had some that were awful and some that were frankly stunning... which is why I think it’s one of those things you have to spend time with to appreciate
  10. Also - it’s nearly Black Friday/sales time and no doubt buyers with a handy bass budget will be holding on to see what they might be able to get. I’ve had a few guitarist mates say exactly that to me recently..
  11. Me too! Normally with build threads I’m doing the assembly/finishing/etc. and it’s a refreshing change to have someone else doing the hard work whilst I just post the pictures 😂
  12. Heheh - don’t fight it
  13. I’m an absolute died in the wool P bass lover.. and I have to say, I doubt I’d put a lot of money into a new fender again. There’s something about a vintage P that I doubt could be really replaceable with a new build, and as such my 64 P is a keeper, but it’s too valuable to gig and use out and about regularly. I’ve tried all sorts of P basses looking for one to gig with - I’ve tried AVRI, Classic Player, standards, specials etc and I’ve not held on to any of them. I bought a used Finn 4 which pretty much straight away became my main gigging bass - it has the sound, but the shape isn’t that familiar P bass type of feel. Having now got a RetroB though, it’s definitely got the feel shape wise.
  14. Have you tried one before?
  15. The RetroB really is a nice shape. It’s very much like a P bass, but different enough to feel like it isn’t just another copy - whilst retaining the comfortable and familiar feel. The build quality is the real stand out factor on it - superbly playable, lovely low action and everything feels so snug and tight. In addition, I’m really impressed with the pickup - I have the same one in my Finn 4 and it does all of those great P bass tones and much more besides. I’ve had quite a few basses in my time, and a lot of guitars as well - I would say that Alan’s work is up there with the very best - and probably is the best I’ve played. He is also extremely accommodating and an absolute pleasure to deal with. It might sound like he’s paid me to say this, but he hasn’t (the reverse in fact 😂) but I feel really strongly that as a player, I should spread the word about just how good ACG gear is - very high quality, excellent prices, and a local U.K. builder too!
  16. Yeah ok so they are a bit pricey...
  17. Two tone stylers and some little markers to denote “home” position for your two core tones and then you can twiddle about with either?
  18. Do you have two specific tone settings in mind?
  19. ^ looks ok to me - give it a go
  20. It’s a reference to off the wall topics where the usual comment would be “is it any good for metal?”
  21. There’s always people in denial
  22. Osmosis here largely leads to two things: - Less cash - A deeper appreciation for what works in Metal
  23. I reckon festive season, too-much-gear-itis and people who are buying knowing exactly what they want. I suspect it will be flat-ish until after Christmas and probably up to March. Once spring starts us bassists start to get frisky and let our wallets flap about
  24. Try looking at the pic in a mirror
  25. I wonder if superlight tuners would help?
