  1. Tsk! Come come now old chap - you can do better than that It wasn’t a comb and paper but a comb and cellophane that Jimi improvised a Kazoo with..
  2. I don’t have a problem with people who want to collect instruments - it’s their money etc. But I do think that there’s a rather odd degree of snobbery around instrument brands and prices.. “You must be good, you have a £2k bass” or “You can’t be that good if you only have a Squier” etc..
  3. I suspect some of our familiarity with harmonics and our own comfort with certain frequencies relates to the human voice as well: (taken from Wikipedia article on harmonics) Many acoustic oscillators, such as the human voice or a bowed violin string, produce complex tones that are more or less periodic, and thus are composed of partials that are near matches to integer multiples of the fundamental frequency and therefore resemble the ideal harmonics and are called "harmonic partials" or simply "harmonics" for convenience
  4. I reckon there’s a good chance it would be in tune
  5. Someone needs to buy him a ruler. And some drill bits. And a workbench. And some new glasses
  6. Not at all. It’s a good question to ask why the Precision is so ubiquitous. My opinion is not because it was First (because it wasn’t) but because of a unique formula of playability, sound, robustness and reputation
  7. But to walk it you need to stand behind it - so it would have to be long enough to clear it’s body and tail..
  8. I gave you a sensible response! (And a picture)
  9. I fail to see how a pointless question could derail this thread..?
  10. I remember when this site was in black and white
  11. Yep. Tutmarc 736 in 1935 was definitely the first. It wasn’t popular, and didn’t continue for long. I suspect that the reason the 51P bass did succeed was because it was more playable, sounded better and was easier for upright bass players to convert to.
  12. Even it’s mother would have trouble loving that...
  13. No problem - I wasn’t very clear in my description I’m used to the Shukers side markers but see little point in having them right across the board
  14. I have side line markers on my Shuker - that's actually what I meant!
  15. That's a shame. I think my first choice is an ACG (fretted or fretless) but like I said - got to shift some of this kit here first! The 74P and the EICH head need to go really.
  16. I thought you’d withdrawn it tho? I need to move the 74 P on first!
  17. Yeah, that's quite nice, isn't it? I think I'd prefer lined... but then again, there's some mighty lovely fretted 5's on the ACG site...
  18. I've got some gear up for sale at the moment. It's all stuff I've just not used for a while, so it ought to go, and hopefully it is.. Recently I put my big boys pants on and got a fretless. It's brilliant and I'm loving the fretless thing. Now, I'm wondering if I should go even more big big brave boy and get a 5 string. And then I think "maybe I could get a fretless five?" 🤔 But maybe I should do a fretted five first, cos, well, that would be less brave, wouldn't it?
