Got a new bass on the way.. It cost £30. Guesses invited but it’ll be a fun project...

Yes - I have one. Very good it is too. I also have the new boss one which is two battery controllers (one for each end) and that’s very good too...

I must reiterate the point that I made earlier - the cost itself is in my opinion secondary to the strings - different strings suit different basses - some expensive some cheap. I love my TIs on some basses I have, but on others they just don’t work at all - on one, I find the Fender flats do the best job.

Definitely not as low tension. La Bella do a set of low tension flats (I have some) and they are actually slightly stiffer than TI’s!

Hmmm - balanced trs outputs can be Line or instrument level - so it’s effectively a DI box. It has all of the bass models, amps, cabs and effects and will get all the full fat helix extras when updated........

TIs are superb - but... it’s more likely you’ll need to adjust the truss with them as they are low tension compared to La Bellas - but, it depends on what you have on now...

Having set up many a P bass pickup, I’d say that the angles in the photos (although quite big) are not beyond reasonable. It depends on the strings, the pickups themselves and the types of magnets/poles/windings as well as fb radius and so forth. As has already been stated, play it for a bit and see how it is - if one string seems quieter than the others then raise that bit of thebrelevant pickup a bit. The pickup will be seated on springs so turning anti-clockwise on the screw will slowly raise it, clockwise will lower it

I think they are on order... I know that’s vague, but I’ve not heard from the maker for a bit (and that’s not unusual)

It's just my personal opinion, of course, but I don't think it's worth compromising on amplification. I think a dedicated bass amp is the way to go every time. For practice, at home as well. The other alternative is a Preamp/DI or some sort of bass specific interface that can go to a PA style speaker. A guitar amp will always be found lacking.

I don’t really understand why anyone would compromise on strings - they are integral tone, feel and quality on any bass. Given the longevity of flatwounds it seems a false economy to not get the set that does the job for you. We spend so much on basses and amps, and I’ve spent more on cables and wireless systems than I ever have on strings....
