  1. I’m not sure I even know what.... nevermind
  2. I’m not sure I even know what rock n roll is...
  3. I'll have a look at the MB - looks like it's the same weight as the Stage 800. The big draw of the stage 800 was I cynically thought the modelling would be crap - then played the studio 40 in a shop - and crikey it was good for it's size and price.... I actually think I'd struggle to find a cab I like more than that vanderkley... it's just so, well, complete
  4. Two fingers is the norm - as you are starting out, I'd recommend reading up and watching videos on the 'floating thumb' technique - I found it really helped to nail it early on.
  5. I'll accept no offers unless they include an um-bongo and a fry's chocolate cream..
  6. Hang on, I thought the Prime Directive was to not interfere with the primitive development of new drummers when encountered in the wild....?
  7. Yeah. It's currently doing small-valve-head duties but after this weekend using the Vanderkley I think it has to go. I'm gassing for one of those Fender Rumble Stage 800's as a one-box-one-thing-to-carry general purpose amp..
  8. I tried to sell my BF Compact on here a while back and I'd have been lucky to get a packet of Wotsits and a Topic for it...*sigh*
  9. I'm not sure I even know what Rock n Roll is.....
  10. You can't have all the nice shiny stuff. Leave some for the rest of us. (Except for the Abstainers as they shall now be affectionately known )
  11. You need to learn to turn that 9 day cycle into a "NEIN! day cycle"
  12. I'd say more like an AA meeting in a classy wine bar...
  13. Bass direct. If you are going to do this - do it properly. Temptation in full view, the lot...
  14. I'm going to watch with interest.. you guys are better men than me!!
  15. Can he also self ban me from Facebook Marketplace, Facebook groups, gumtree, eBay, other bass/guitar forums, bass direct, andertons, guitar guitar, PMT, the local music shop down the road, other band members selling stuff and the free ads in the back of magazines pls?
  16. That's the next band name sorted!
  17. I'm a fingers player. I use pick from time to time when needed, but I like what fingers can do. Then again, I'm a flats player pretty much exclusively too. However, I would say that trying both fingers and pick is definitely the way to go - give them both a good try and work on both - they both have their place and they will together make you a rounded player
  18. The thing to remember about Precisions like this, is that back in the late 50's and early 60's Precisions were mass produced bolt together run of the mill basses for the working bass player. They weren't high end super duper custom crafted instruments. The price of a pre-cbs P doesn't reflect this heritage any more. The roadworn, however, is bang on this theme - it's a good value solid working bass with a proven design built to the same formula that Leo came up with in 57.
  19. I'll go further than that. If you want the real deal and that vintage vibe, for me, the order is: 1. Proper pre-cbs 2. Roadworn 3. AVRI And the gap between 1 and 2 is probably that 5%... between 2 and 3, it's more like 10%. When you consider the money you pay for a roadworn compared to 1 or 3 on my list then it's a proper bargain.
  20. I think unless you really want to drop the best part of £7k on that final 5% then there's no point. For me, the 64 was about the heritage, the history and the fact that I'd worked hard to get the cash and just wanted to do it. I don't gig it, but it does get recorded a lot. But for any recording I've done, I reckon I could have swapped the 64 for your roadworn and we would both be very very hard pressed to notice any difference at all. The 64 does feel slightly different - not much, but the braz rw board with years of play and rolled edges and the unique feel of the tort does give it a slightly different vibe. The pickups have definitely aged as well so the output is slightly different - but again, not by much at all. I may be mad for saying it, but unless you really really do want to have a pre-cbs in the house, and absolutely nothing else would do, then there's no point. A roadworn will scratch any other itch very well.
  21. If it was a dream then it was bloody accurate 😁
