  1. I'm gonna say it. I had one. It was probably 95% of my 64P. Yeah. That good and that close. I only got rid because, er, I have a 64...
  2. My next project is probably going to be a fretless Stingray build.. not sure when the body and neck are due to land tho...!
  3. (That's a no to joining in.. but I admire your intent) 😁

Yeah, but they've been there and done it already.. I can't un-hear it
  5. I would concur with the views expressed above re not being in a band. "Being in a band" can sound very formal - and it doesn't have to be. It can be as simple as finding a couple of like minded mates who play drums/guitar or whatever and hiring a practise room for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. For me, bass is about playing with others. Even informally. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you are "locked in" with a good drummer, or the way bass can influence the general tone of a song with note selection. I find that a good practise setup at home can really help in the early days. See if you can work out a way of playing along to prerecorded stuff that you like - maybe an amp with an aux in, or an interface for a computer so you can use headphones or the like. I have a slightly convoluted setup with a Helix whereby it acts as an audio interface on my laptop so I can play bass along to any music I have access to - a little EQ'ing to drop some of the prerecorded bass lets me play along and learn songs easily. I noticed a much quicker progress when I started doing this.
  6. No, you are absolutely correct - I know ash from oil city pretty well and he has said this before..

Looks like a great feature set, and I'm sure it will be brilliant at doing it's thing. I will, however, definitely not buy one. I point blank refuse to buy any product that the manufacturer actively chooses to advertise using slap....
  8. Had some people round this weekend. We had a nice little jam in our music room. Drums, Bass and two guitars. Gave me a chance to try out the PF20T and the Ashdown CTM15 in a smallish setting. Both amps were used with a Vanderkley 2x10. PF20T: Felt very traditional - lots of good ampeg tone, and was surprisingly loud and had plenty of presence. It behaved how I expected it to, and it did a great job of carrying bass against a full kit and two guitars going into Boss Katana amps. CTM15: Properly surprising amp. With no gain and master on full it was loud enough to carry through - not as loud as the PF20, but decent though. With gain dialled in at 50% it was positively raucous and had a really biting and cutting sound that sat really nicely in the mix - needed an eq tweak to get it to work, but it was really surprising. I can see them both being very useful in small band situations and for recording. The pf20t for "that" sound, and the CTM15 for a whole different type of sound.
  9. You could move up to a BF Compact - not a huge weight jump and the Compact or Super Compact will give you more presence. I've got a Compact which I've considered getting rid of before (was listed but no bites) and the 15" driver IMHO gives a fuller sound compared to the 12" - but that's just personal preference tho.
  10. Listed it in the classifieds. I guess that's pretty decisive, isn't it?
  11. 1974 Fender Precision - Olympic White All original Weight: 8 1/2 lbs Case: Original case (but rather battered now!) This bass was sold by Andy Baxter some time ago and eventually made it's way to me via bass chat. Here is the AB listing on his website sold items: http://www.andybaxterbass.com/details.php?id=559 - there are plenty of "guts" photos on here for provenance, and Andy confirmed it was a 74 and was the same bass when I contacted him. It's a really good example of an early/mid 70's Precision in the desirable Olympic White (which has gone a really nice custard colour) There is a lot of roadwear - notably at the bottom and on the back, and the scratch plate has cracked by the jack socket but is glued and stable. The knobs are original and have de-chromed quite a bit on the top. Electronically it is in fine condition, and sounds exactly how you expect an early/mid 70's P to sound with a lot of upper-bass and low-mid thump. It's a bit hotter output compared to my 64. It has flats on it at the moment. Fret condition is good - plenty left in them and it's set up for a low/medium action (around 2mm E down to 1.5mm G) Neck adjusts properly so truss rod is fine. Ideally, I'd like a trade for a high end 4 string fretless. As it's a vintage and the case is not so good these days, I would also prefer a meet up - especially for a trade. I'm happy to travel a good distance as I'm out and about with work a lot - NE/NW/Mids/East/London - pretty much anywhere as long as it's not the SW or Scotland as they are a bit too far! Sorry, but no sales outside of the UK - I don't want to post this overseas.
  12. I’ve just ordered another one - this time it’s a special build to go into the Shuker fretless - he’s a genius.
  13. You have options with Helix, depending on the impedance of the piezo.. If it’s passive then either use an fx return input or DI box into the DI. If it’s active then depending on the amp type, either the aux in, or the fx return will again work very well, as will the DI option. I’d avoid the guitar input as you’ll find it affects tone a lot.
  14. There’s a big difference between hiscox and the rest (including skb) - the lining is bonded to the case throughout and forms part of the structural rigidity of the case. Day to day, this makes little difference, but in a major incident situation it means that the hiscox will offer a significant degree more strength and survivability - and ultimately protection for the contents.
  15. It’s a bit generic “samey” looking, isn’t it? 😁
  16. Ahh so that’s where the broken screw came in then... Annoying, that’s what that is. Niiiiice, that’s what that bass is.
  17. Yeah - I know. For the same money I can have some pretty special fretless action.
  18. @bassbiscuits - possibly. I won’t lose money on it.. but you’re right, they may well keep going up. Realistically it’s probably worth 2.5k these days, which is honestly a bit mad for what they are, but that’s the market.
  19. No, but that’s fine.. there’s so many other custom fretless basses knocking around that appeal - and there’s value in the 74 that could be used for it...
  20. Had some people round this weekend and we had a nice Jam in our music room. Drums, bass and a couple of guitars. Decided to use the 74 tongove it a workout and see how I feel about it. Towards the end I whipped out the ACG instead and there was no contest. It’s a fab bass but I don’t know whether it’s doing it for me. I actually think I’d rather have another fretless. Hmmm
  21. Yeah. I know. Which is why it isn’t getting played...
  22. Serious? That’s really kind of you. In return I can “look after” that £2k for you as well
